    What a wonderful idea! Being in my 60's with health issues it has been getting more painful bending/stooping/kneeling in the garden beds planting seeds.
    This way I could do lots of seeds while I'm standing up.
    Thank you!

    Hey Jinne and Friends. Great idea. Very useful for tiny seeds such as carrots,.. which are a pain to sow evenly spaced when there's a wind a-blowin' across the plot. The process can be sped up by rolling up the strip of toilet tissue and cut through the middle with one or two snips.

    Gosh Jinne, I wish I had known how to do this about 50 years ago! Just goes to show ya, never to old to learn a new trick. Hubby and I still do big gardens at 72, so this will be easier for the direct sow seeds and I can pass onto my kids/grandkids so they know this trick too. Glad I said yes to wanting this video too!

    Once again, you've hit the nail on the head. Ive mobility issues and need my family to plant for me. I can make the seed tapes to make it easier for them. Plus thinning will be less of a problem.

    I really like the seed tape. I had ordered some beets a couple of years ago that was seed tape.. and it worked great. I will have to try it with carrot seeds this year.

    You can make your paste from cornstarch & water. Cornstarch paste dissolves easier than a flour paste.

    Thank you for this video. I am so glad that you are making this video. I have carrot seeds and beet seeds. And parsnip seeds. And rutabaga seeds. I'm about through canning except for cushaw squash soup. By the way it's not as good as butternut but I have a ton and I'm determined to not let it go to waste.

  • @joycedagostino8869
    @joycedagostino8869 6 месяцев назад

    Good video. I also don't like to thin so this will help and you're right, the seed companies seed tapes are a lot more expensive then loose seeds. Maybe use a laundry drying rack inside to let the tapes dry indoors. Also maybe put some sort of labels or writing on the tapes to identify what they are so while they're drying you don't forget what they are in case they are moved around during drying.

      That is a great idea using a clothes drying rack. I have one in my basement. I am going twe weite on the toilet paper what they are. I am going to do this for my tooth ache plant seeds, Roma tomato seeds, cherry tomato seeds, green pepper seeds that I thew the packets away because they were empty.

    Jinne, do you think that you could lie the drying seed tape on waxed paper? I'm a little concerned about it drying onto the counter.

    • @HomesteadCorner
      @HomesteadCorner  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, you could put it on wax paper. I've always just done it on the counter, as long as I pick it up and move it just a little I haven't had any problems with it sticking, and the glue comes off the counters pretty easy.

  • @danniemcdonald7675
    @danniemcdonald7675 6 месяцев назад

    OK, don't laugh (well, maybe a little one), but to plant them, do you dig a trench (how deep?), unroll the seed tape and cover it with soil? Or just unroll the seed tape directly on top of the garden plot and cover with soil?. My one and only gardening attempt was when I decided to try container gardening one year. Nothing lived.😢

  • @pinschrunner

    I have completely failed to understand why you would make "seed tape?". I have never heard of it before. I planted Swiss chard today in Florida and I poked a hole in the ground with my pole, I threw seed in. I did the next one. Why do I need flour glue, toilet paper and another indoor task? Serious question, I truly don't know what it is or why you would spend so much time doing it? This may be a Northern thing. (?) @Homestead Corner

    • @gardenwarrier8629
      @gardenwarrier8629 6 месяцев назад

      It works extremely well for carrots and beets because they don't need to thinned. Makes spacing plants easy. and planting easier for those of us who are older and have physical issues.
