    As young children, my Dad showed us how to garden and we are all now in our seventies and all of us “kids” have our own homes and gardens and are passing on the knowledge. What a wonderful winter craft for getting the grandkids involved with preparing the seed tapes and planning the vegetable garden for spring. Thanks for a heartwarming video.

    Thank you for this great tutorial! I did make seed tape with my 15 yr old granddaughter and it was a fun, bonding experience for us. We found it helpful to use a narrow paintbrush to dab little blobs of glue, and then another tiny paintbrush with a slight amount of paste to pick up one seed at a time and deposit it into the blob. Went very fast! We had the idea to put radishes on the same tape with carrot seed, as the radishes will be harvested before the carrots need the space.

      Just as an update, I found that if the flour mix has a chance to allow the gluten to evolve it makes a better paste and easier to work with. I also found that dipping the tip of a toothpick into a blob on the paper allowed me to quickly and easily pick up one seed at a time and place on the blobs. I just wipe it off on a paper towel in between placing the seeds to keep the tip pointed. Chatenay Red Carrot seeds are very small and fingers were oh-so-slow.

    will the water in the paste harm the seeds if not planted for a month or so?

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  5 лет назад +1

      As long as you just use a dab of the paste to hold the seed, it dries very quickly and does no damage to the seed. I've made seed tape with newspaper and paste that sat for 5-6 months before placing in the garden; germination was still close to 100 percent.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  5 лет назад +1

      The seeds shouldn't sprout; I've never had that problem. My paste is relatively gooey and dries quickly. If it is very watery and takes a long time to dry, there is a chance it can promote germination.

      The whole point of seed tape is to make it easy to plant tin seeds , like carrots. It's easy to plant bean seeds and would take longer to have to make bean seed tape than to actually plant the seeds in evenly spaced rows without tape.
