I just bought a blued one and I agree that it is a quality piece. The trigger on mine would have to be upgraded or replaced since it has lot of slop. I have a Kimber Custom II for comparison, the Kimber's are more snug. That said, I like the Colt 1991 because it doesn't have the front slide serration and the serrations on the Colt are fine and vertical which I like the most.

I've got both the stainless and blued/parkerized versions. I live in California as well and they are no longer on the California.Roster of authorized handguns. Glad I got mine when I did. They are grandfathered in but are no longer being shipped to California stores. It all has to do with the microstamping issue. Real shame

It is the closest you will get in today's terms. Colt made a few changes which you can google but they modeled this gun after the old 1911.

Major League Shooter, now that Colt has folded, I would advise you to NOT change anything on that gun ! It is an instant collectors item now !
The only change I made was to change the grips to wooden Marine Corps grips from
Chip McCormick.

Ironically I was ready to suggest the Remington R1 as the one solid competitor to the Colt 1991 even before you mentioned it. After owning both, yes the Colt is better, but only by a very very slight margain. the Remington is 98% as good. in fact I like the trigger a bit better on the R1. I hate the R1 sights though. They're so huge and ugly. If I could get the 1991 sights from the factory on an R1 I might just take the Remington over the Colt. Until then though...
Also I'm a bit annoyed that Remington felt the need to move R1 production to Alabama cause of these idiots who were upset about the politics of the state the guns are manufactured in. Like somehow the Liberal stink is built into the gun itself cause it's built there. Oh people are more than fine, even ecstatic in some cases, over guns built in Czechoslovakia, or Croatia, or Austria, but if it's built in the wrong part of the US oh hell no! You better move that factory cause I ain't touchin that piece of shit. Gimme a break

If you want to see the intro, the plastic case, a detailed count of the owners manual, watch the whole God damn thing from the beginning.
