I've got a couple of these blankets. I actually used them this summer for camping in South Wales (UK), also they were handy when flying internationally with my family. They're light, and compact. Much better than the airline blankets.
They pack down really small too.
I got one, and as soon as I received it, my wife stole it and I had to get another...

I have this blanket and love it. It's not a sleeping bag and is not designed to wrap around your whole body. I slept on my Insulated Nemo Tensor with this blanket over top of me last weekend. Temp got down to 48 degrees and I was toasty with just a t-shirt, shorts and wool socks. There is plenty of blanket to tuck under your body on both sides and at your feet, either on your back or on your side.
The weight is what sold me and I think it's worth the $70.

It reminds me of the Costco $20 throw down blanket (couple years ago... don't know if they still have it...) remarketed it and jacked the price... it's amazing for $20 especially combined with usgi woobie... but definitely for summer use. Thx for all the hard work Luke and Susie S&H

I almost bought those Costco blankets. Those truly are underfilled. These are not, in spite of this reviewers assessment.
The down quality is only 650 so it takes little while for them to fluff back up to their full potential after stuffing them in the storage bag.
The trick is to get them out of the stuff sack as soon as possible when setting up your sleep system to allow them as much time as possible before bedtime to fluff out.

    • @thdjjfsfh
      @thdjjfsfh 3 года назад

Yep, I brought two from Costco, $20-$30, they are stored in my vehicles for emergencies and I use them to supplement my car camping setup. Susie is right, this does feel like a $35 product. It seem like this product is slightly larger though, I remember it barely covers my feet and it slides off easily.

I always have the same problem with all these down blankets, no matter how much they cost. They're all too short/narrow for me. I'm 6'2". If the blanket isn't 78"+ long and 55"+ wide, it's too small. I usually take a Snugpak Jungle Blanket (regular) in my pack during the summer. It just barely fits.

'80" flat, 77" puffed up' it literally says it right there. The same way an inflatable air mat is longer when not inflated, and shortens when air pumps in and curves form in the fabric due to inflated shape. Same thing with air expanding in down pockets.

Excellent review! I own several of these and you are correct on every Point except for maybe the warmth/fluffiness. (Maybe I just sleep hot)
I bought each of my kids one of these, but they were going unused so I decided to buy a snap kit so multiple blankets can be snapped together. Shooting for three. Along with installing snaps to allow it to be put together like a sleeping bag for use inside of a 2go systems breathable mylar lined bivy.
I found the fluffiness and dimensions quite nice.
If you leave it out of the stuff sack for long periods of time they fluff-up quite nicely approaching the smaller dimensions that were listed by the company due to its fullness.
Three blankets along with the bivvy and a 24-in wide piece of reflectix should be amazingly warm, lightweight, water repellent and breathable.
Highly recommend ditching their bag and using a dry bag.

I have a 12 year old Jacks R Better No Sniveler down quilt rated to 20 F that weighs a half an ounce more than that. Then again, it uses baffles instead of sewn thru quilts and 850 goose down instead of the 650 hodge podge. It'll stuff into a smaller bag than that too, thought I rarely compress mine that much. It has a velcro hole in the middle so it can be worn under a shell layer as a huge insulation layer, attachment points to be used as a hammock underquilt and ties for a footbox when used as a topquilt.
My Wiggy's insulated hammock liner weighs closer to 26 ounces, but it uses Climashield with similar features. It's good to about 50 F but is almost oblivious to moisture.

Like... Yeah, it has limited function for what it is and what it costs, but most of your suggestions are already a different product that almost universally costs more.
So, if you want a footbox and a cinching draft collar at the head, folks? Get a quilt. And yes, it'll cost twice as much for a good one.

    • @mysterylovescompany2657
      @mysterylovescompany2657 2 года назад

My thoughts exactly. It's unfair to compare a lightweight blanket that is only meant to be supplementary to a much more expensive + technical item.
I have one of these, & it fulfills its function perfectly, but that function is not "single-handedly keep me comfortable in freezing weather".
It's a blanket. It's supposed to go _on top_ of your bedding, or warm clothes, or whathaveyou, to give you a few extra degrees - not serve as a core layer.
And this one, to do it justice, is lighter + comfier than a wool one of the same.

Both provide more insulation than it and one of them is synthetic. This is basically the Costco quilt everyone went nuts over a few years ago. Not terribly useful from my perspective. Comparing it to something 3+ times the price & much more technical isn't giving this item a fair shout.
It's a blanket; assess it against other blankets i.e. woobies, wool blankets, the Snugpak jungle blanket, etc. That's the only way to rep it justly.

Most hiking/camping within 4 hrs of here is the same for 10-11 months out of the year. This plus a 20° bag should be perfect for my needs. I think that it does fit into a smaller corner of the market but it seems like it's a perfect fit for those hotter climates where nights are still in the 60s to 80s or warmer. Thanks for the review.

I have this blanket and really love it. I read in the Amazon reviews to either wash and dry it after getting it, or to just put it in the dryer with some clean tennis balls for 15-20 minutes. I chose to wash mine, and I couldn’t believe how much it puffed up after washing and drying. I have used it to extend my sleeping bag’s warmth, as a layer for a sunrise hike when I knew we’d be sitting on top of a bald for about an hour, and for various other non-hiking/backpacking activities (another sunrise viewing at a sports camp, in poncho mode). We love it for a throw around the house, too. I live in the south so I think it would pair well with a sleeping bag liner as a summer backpacking quilt, too.

I forgot to mention the first time I watched this; I have one of these, & when Luke says the pictures are false advertising + "it will _never_ look like that", he's not quite accurate.
I hang mine, + only compress it for travel, & when allowed enough time to loft up after unpacking (a few hours, after a bit of shaking) + when stored in a lofted state so it "remembers" it, the baffles do indeed get that fluffy.
Luke's is just flat because he doesn't give it the time it needs to loft.

I bought it to pair with my hammock cocoon. It works perfectly for that. Didn't need to be substantial, gust something to pull around me for added comfort

Well, for a start, that is not anything I would call a blanket, if anything it’s a quilt ! I’m not giving up my guanaco hair blanket for that !
I could buy a cheapo zipped sleeping bag from a garage and get a better result !

Sixty degree blanket sounds worthless. About the same warmth& weight of a sleeping bag liner.

I wonder how many manufacturers actually use their own equipment. They should be forced to, in the wild. Then we'll see quality.

The world needs a lightweight down blanket that is NOT made of cold to the touch nylon. Is there such a thing?

Or you can get one from Costco for like 20 bucks. Slightly smaller but it's 20 bucks lol

As always, good presentation, but I am french, so metric system would be very apreciated. Your old pounce system is a great mystery for me, americans want to go to Mars but are not able to use the metric system....friendly.

I've used this on yacht deliveries in the summer with AC running. Great blanket for that condition. I wouldn't use it backpacking, not enough insulation.

@12:00 I have seen zippered poncho liners available at one place online. Or you could DIY at home with the necessary items.

As one person stated below. Costco had a similar product that I paid $20 for and works great with my sleep system in colder weather. I wish I had purchased more at the time because they would also great around the house as well! $20 was an amazing deal but I am 6’ 200lbs and it’s a bit short if used on its own.

REI and the Canadian version of MEC is selling a down waterproof wash that works well to make that thing far more water-resistant. Or if you know you are using it on only one side fabric guard the other side and it would be a bit less breathable but more waterproof on one side only though.

This is what I understand about people reviewing things on RUclips. It's made up never been tried or tested just so that you can make a dollar or two. Yes basically I'm saying it's a lie not to say that your products are lie but it could be. They company send things to people that has RUclips channels to get their products out to people. But I doubtfully say that you reviewed it out and tested it out in the field. So people be where of some of these people that advertise and reviews that has not been tested properly

As you make honestly clear, there is a role for this for medium/small built people to use in summer and as a part of a sleep system with a truly waterproof/repellent outer layer. I could use this.

Can anyone tell me what the blanket is laying on at 11:36? It looks like some sort of plastic sheet to sleep on, but maybe it’s coated with something? Doesn’t just look like regular old plastic. I need something just like that.
