Been using these for many years. Bought 4 of them back when they cost $12 each. Found that you can open two of them out and they zip into one double size 2 person bag ( almost a queen size). Great for over landing or truck camping the two of us.
Yeah I got a pair of these from Midway years ago and I think I paid literally like $13 for each. They're really comfortable, the feel of the "real" fabric is a lot more cozy than cold synthetics.
That was actually the one question I had...because it's great when you can mate two sleeping bags together. Now I just need to find two of these for a good price :)
I was in force recon unit in Army of the Czech Republic more than 25 years ago... This horrible piece of crap taught me hard way to be proffesional in MacGyvering how to keep every bit of heat... Winters in CR are wet, mildly cold around -5 C (around 20 F) with extremes at - 15 to -20 C (up to -5 F). Being out of barracks in january for 14 days on survival tactics training (basicaly go to woods, be there 14 days, don't die and then come back) with this f..kng thing teached you to value every calory you can save....
I was living in Prague the past 7 years but have never seen these before. I would love to find two...the zip them together. I'd use a US Army Poncho liner inside for additional warmth.
Will also add from my husband: had it for 2 years. Good for above freezing temps, layers stay put, layers easy to remove and wash, can be used as a blanket because it can be unzipped fully, very comfortable. (Also, he says I shouldn't harass southerners/non-Canadians about different terminology - hat, beanie, toque, toboggan, chook, stocking cap, skullcap, Bobble hat, watch cap...)
I bought a US military MMS sleep system about 5 years ago and it is my go to sleep system for 4 seasons. I do like to use a bag liner to protect it from dirt and don’t wear any dirty cloths when I slip into for the night. Good review.

I also endorse the Canadian artic bag. Three bags in one. No zippers that will freeze, only wooden toggles. It is so efficient, you sleep naked inside, your clothing trapped between the layers so that too doesn't freeze. THE best bag I have ever used at -20C.
I have a couple of these, had them for years now. My experience: for $20 they are cool, kind of like a primitive precursor to the US military sleep system. The main advantage is that the bottom is fully waterproof like a bivy bag (but the top isn't) and you can wash the components. The downsides are that (1) it is absolutely huge and heavy vs how warm it actually is, and (2) it isn't all that warm, period. There is just a single wool blanket inside of it after all. Personally, I think if you pay $80 for one, you are crazy. For that, you can get a decent, modern 40 degree synthetic bag which will weigh 1/3 of this and fit in a bag 1/3 as big and provide better thermal performance. This is something to throw in the back of the truck for emergencies or whatever, and it really stops making any sense at all once it isn't crazy cheap.
I’ve had one for about 5 years and use a cot to sleep on. I unzip it and use it like a blanket. Add wool blankets as needed when it gets cold. Love it.
Have similar Czech bag with a quilt lining that ties in, canvas on top and has rubberized bottom. Has a better hood arrangement. Love the bag, very roomy for a sleeper who moves around. Kept me warm enough at 45. Bought for $20 like eight years ago. What a bargain.
Friend bought one of these years back.. I used it twice. Did not keep me warm at all.. I Bought the US 4 piece, and while yes it costs more (was about 100 when i bought it years ago) it is far superior. Completely waterproof, rated to -40f. Packs smaller, is lighter. Buy the Czech if you are on a budget and only summer camping, buy the US version if you need more heavy duty gear.
Our good old military basic sleeping bag. There was another version for Officers which has an inflatable sleeping pad inside. I am still using the blanket from it :). Greetings from Czech Republic!
I bought one from "Sportsman Guide"...... I loved it so much I bought a second one for my hot tent !!....they are great for using on cots durring the cold season and are made like a tank !!!..... I added a wool blanket to the inside and have a fleece liner also for both !!
I have used my British Army sleep system down to -13f in Norway and it was comfortable. Hey are plentiful and pretty cheap. Great quality and the Goretex outer is a very capable bivvi bag in foul weather.
I got two in a set for 60 dollars finding them after seeing your first review of one. One missing light liner I gave to younger great nephew who loves it. I've used mine a few times love it. But wish it was wider am side slipper, and have not found anything that really fits me well in single sizes. That side works, and I do love it, and made it work the best I could for how I sleep. Got something else rated for a lot lower temp, but I keep this one handy just in case my go to bag. Power out just yesterday for over 6.5 hours, was like camping in the house. Had it ready to go if had to sleep without power.
I'm Czech, and i've spent quite a lot of time inside the predecessor of this sleeping bag used the Army of Socialist Czechoslovakia. It was as good as you said this one is :) I tried going through the Alps with this one, and minus 10 Celsius wasn't fun :) Hek! I think i still might have the officers' version (pre 1989) of this bag still somewhere! :) Oh, the memories...
I have been waiting for a long time for the follow up to the sleep system. I have one and I use it all the time. one of my favorite pieces of gear. I very often get stuck at work and get short shifted so I don't have time to go home and come back. I will often use this to sleep between shifts at work.
A great-looking item/system for ranchers, "cowboys" etc. who need durability and simplicity in their gear. As stated, great for keeping in pickup/work truck, ATV, as part of a trail horse saddlebag system etc.
I am using one for years now. I keep it in my car, but i must say, i use it only indoor. I added to it a thin foam pad, it helps with comfort and isolation. I had to sew my own linen sheet as the one i got was the wrong size. I love the feel of linen, and it is so practical to wash.
Really dig that helikon anorak brother! I have a pretty solid backpacking Loudoun but I find myself hunting from a base camp often. Basecamp usually is vehicle/overland based so with weight not being an isure I'm looking at camp comfort options and this looks great!
I love mine. It's ridiculously comfortable. And I do take it backpacking; I use some straps to hook it to the underside of my ALICE pack. I was camping last winter in the high desert, and the temperatures got down to the upper 30's. With a surplus canvas pup tent (with an air gap at the bottom), this bed roll, a foam pad, and a single wool blanket, I was quite comfortable. But then, I run hot, so what was comfortable for me might be too cold for someone else.
We used this in CZ Army in the 90s for sure. In barracks as a sleeping blanket most of the time. I have never seen one issued with the wool part blanket though. But we never slept outside or in the real cold anyway.
When I first found this sleep system I thought it was the coolest thing, and bought it right away. My only gripes; I don't understand the straps on it, and there's no way to make it smaller.
GREAT REVIEW! I love that it has a wool liner but, I'm not crazy about the buttons, I would rather have snaps. Thank you for the time and research you put into your videos!🥰
Got one of these earlier this summer. Used it on a 55 degree night and got a bit cold. Didn’t have good insulation under me, but I found the bag a big constricting and cold. Everyone is different, but if you’re going to use one, have a spare blanket or backup bag until you learn how it works for you.
I have one if these. I'm 6' and 220lbs. Never been able to do it up a the way. Not sure what petite army these were made for. Glad you did a review on it though. Keep up the good work.

Reminds of the swag bag when i was in Australia. They are a lot thicker but the same principle, roll it up and go, roll it out and sleep in it. Alas its something you carry with a vehicle.
I've had two of these just a bit longer adding a skinny fleece bag inside and ant tarp and you're good for anything. The bottom side of the nylon outer appears to be waterproof and thicker.
It is a sleeping bag vz.67 (vz. is mark or model ) for basic service soldiers - compulsory military service. The number 67 indicates the year of introduction into use in the army. 1967. i do use much older version this one is based on for 17+ years and also officer version (its very different) but i tend to not use that hygiene (they can be green or green-blue) layer but only the blanket... i get it for like $4 and officer model for $7 but that was when i was basically a kid edit: officer model have a compartment inside for inflatable pad that is a part of the kit
Ha! Ha! These are great for £9 as I paid for mine years ago...great for incidental bedding or car camping in the summer....mind you, you can button in extra blankets......if you can find them now?
Well from experience in 2 branches of service the sleeping bag is always one of the hardest to clean and dry for returning them into CIF. I liked the USMC sleep system way better than the older mummy bags used in the Army
This has always been my hang up when going camping, I'm 7 feet tall roughly 240 lbs.. not a lot of gear made for tall people , including sleep systems and hammocks.. anything I get like this I have to expand or modify to fit me.

To cut down on to have to clean the sleeping system, I alway either strip down or wear clean clothes to bed. It keeps everything much cleaner that way. The guys and gals in my USAR Unit would give me hell about sleeping almost buck naked but I slept great.

G'day Luke, really like the design concept for car camping, particularly on a cot. As I travel hot too, any bag that folds out into a blanket has a head start IMO. How good would it be to be waterproof as well. Seriously considering one in the new year, many thanks for showing it mate. Cheers Duke.

My go-to sleep system is almost the same weight, but works better for me. I do like the wool liner though, so I may just pick one up.
Love it.
