  • In this video I show how I re-assemble my 2 barrel Mercarb from my 5.7L Mercruiser. It has been sitting for some time, so I thought it would be a good idea to throw a rebuild kit on it. Stick around to see how these things go back together!

That float is supposed to be level perfectly.
I watched Mike's carb video. It makes more sense.

Holy f,n shit dude I've been looking for this one 30 seconds of video for like 2 weeks!!!🤯🙏🙏🙏. you just save me from slamming my carburetor into a brick wall if anybody says anything bad about your video f*** them f*** the haters man thank you for taking the time to post this sorry about the language but if you only knew.. this 1979 boat was the only thing I got from my father major in the Air Force tragically drop dead playing tennis , stepmom gave it to me because she couldn't start it to sell it and it was going to cost her money to haul it off. It's Priceless to me I named her" oh will "

Great detail on the video. I don't wanna be "that dude" but there is a proper tightening pattern on the screws on the top of the carb. You should've tightened from the inside out according to the Mercruiser Bible. Good job overall though.

Very helpful! I will let you know how the boat runs this coming weekend. My issue has been stalling when accelerating from the preset slow, near idle, forward position which I think was due to a warn out accelerator pump.

I’m having the same problem with my mercruiser. Did rebuilding your carb and replacing your acceleration pump fix your problem?

Do you happen to remember the size of screw you used to replace the choke arm screw with?

Can I buy a new carburetor replacement that is ready to just replace and go?

Apparently there are several different power valves for the carburetor and the one I got from a rebuild kit is incomplete without a spring and retainer. Where did you get your power valve? Thank you.

Scott, I used the Sierra carb rebuild kit PN 18-7098-1. The power valve that came with it was the same as the one I removed.. My best advice would be to go to marineengine.com and they have a fantastic list of mercruiser engines/years/models and the correct carb kit for it.

I've only run it out of the boat so far, but it seemed to run great. Thanks for watching

Hey another great video, very helpful!
However, I am currently in the same boat... my question is, did you recieve a different accelerator pump in the new vs the "original"? The new pump is shorter, also the base is slightly different in taper design. However same diameter. Weird.
I have the same merc carb 2 bbl, elec choke installed on my 5.7 searay. Thank you

I believe my accelerator pump was the same, just the seal was a different color... maybe someone put the wrong one in last time it was rebuilt... have you tried searching rebuild kits with the serial number on the carb?
      Thanks for watching!

Also, wouldn't it be easier to just measure by the Millimeter which is on the other side of that little measuring stick

Probably, but for reference I was using the mercruiser manual which stated everything in inches.. the neverending debate of metric vs imperial

I'm sorry, man, but the music and throat clears were too much. I gave up and watched Mike's videos!
