What does recovery look like from such a race? How do you feel a week after you do something like this? Congrats on the 3rd consecutive win. Dotwatching was big fun.
Not crazy amounts of sleep but definitely huge amount of food!!
Well it's been 10 days now and I would say the first 72 hours are mostly about food. I was constantly eating. Not sleeping 12 hours a night at all. Rather 8 or 9h and then a nap. Unless I was having coffee with the other racers. Definitely not the race that had me the most exhausted. Not sure why because I did sleep very little during the week I was out there. Also I don't really ride my bike for a week or so after these events.
What an incredible achievement! Your start couldn’t have been any worse and the fact you managed to settle yourself down and get the game face on and then go on to win it is truly remarkable. Congratulations Sofiane. Looking forward to seeing your GoPro footage of this epic adventure.
Since I didn't have a phone, I think I ended up talking to the GoPro even more. It should make for a good movie
I like than you acknowledge having a replacement dérailleur hanger is not luck, it’s being prepared. There are elements of racing that are luck, but a lot of the result is how you prepare. You did the work, the preparation and it all paid off. Well done on another win!
Exactly. You need luck in these endeavors, but you should leave as few things as possible decided by chance.
Sofiane, this video is great. We were following you the whole race and it is such an achievement. To hear it, the story, from you is the best. Thanks so much!
Great video! loved the full recap of how the race went down. Amazing amazing job.
A story worth telling 😁
Well done thanks for sharing ❤
Congratulations! You are undeniably a legend! Outstanding, superb! I’m coming next year wanting to finish, I don’t have what it takes to compete in such a hard race but will race against myself and just to finish will be a win for me.
Best of luck!
winning these things gets harder and harder each year as the talent grows leaps and bounds. huge congrats Sofiane
That's very true. With every race, it's pretty much "level up or become irrelevant"
Congratulations 🎉 thank you for sharing your adventure.
My pleasure
Massive congratulations! Loved hearing about the race and mindset to win 🤟
Great job Sofaine. Ultra racing is sick and you folks are amazing! Tks for sharing. Congratulations!
I love those stories! It seems you enjoyed every minute!
Maybe not every minute but definitely most of it
Truly remarkable! Congratulations!
Great race to come back from the crash and the lack of phone. Love the finger tan lines 😀
A classic
Congratulations on your victory! There is much wisdom in what you shared. Thank you
I follow these type of races, rather than the pro peleton now.
A worthy winner! 🏆
UCI races are boring
I enjoyed your account of the race, well done.
Congratulations, impressive performance
Congratulations !!
Congratulations 🎉 amazing feat
Amazing race, marvellous debrief comments and great work from Fanny! 🙂
Congratulations Sofiane! Was following along daily, cheering you on! What a race packed with a ton of great names in ultra cycling community!
you are a huge inspiration. congratulations on the win
Amazing... the determination is crucial indeed
Great story and a great success...
Epic
This story is amazing! You are already a legendary cyclist who demonstrated that even having so much hinders you can concentrate and do what you have to do and win!

Belated congratulations Sofiane . Along with your competitors you are all remarkable racers.

You left me without words. Congratulations, you are a legend!
Brilliant achievement, really enjoyed your story, it brought the race to life.
Thanks! Stay tuned for the bike check and the actual race footage
Fantastic effort Sofiane.
Congratulation to your third win of this epic adventure!!! This race report is very impressive and I will definitely watch it another time. I wish you a good recovery and a safe trip back home
Thanks Thomas
super course, bravo !!
Merci ☺
What a race, what a win, what a video.
Just loved the video and loved dotwatching you and the others. You had some amazing competition but proved you could win the hat again!! Well done 🍾🥂
What can I say apart that Fanny did a great job with the editing as usual
Loved it, thanks for sharing the story of another epic win, congratulations Sofiane! I think you deserved a new phone after all that hard work😂
An armored phone!
Bravo champion
Congratulations sofi, inspired story ❤️
Bravo quel champion! 🎉
Beast!
Great story and great advices at the end of the video! Bravo Sofiane
Just my two cents. Glad if it can help
Awesome Sofiane. Epic ride. You had everyone glued to the tracking screens. Congratulations on the hat-trick.
The Kalpak trick!
Fabulous story.
You are a true Hero, dear, Sofiane! What an amazing achievement you made all the race from the very beginning to the end, despite all the struggle, wounds, the very chock from the deep pot hole in the road and the cold and rain and all the climbing while still having the aftermath of the hitting in the pot hole! You made it so very very very well! May your recovery be 100% and may you feel the sweetness and happines after finishing the line First!! Congratulations! And a deep felt and warm thank to you, dear, Sofiane, for sharing all the important details from your Silk Road Mountain Race 2023 you did so very successfully! 💯👍👌💝💖💝💪🚴♂🥇🏆👍👍👍
Thanks a lot 🙏
What moral strength! You are beyond mere stubbornness, it is just amazing. And thank you for sharing with humility your incredible experience. Bravo!

Yeah it's a bit more than just stubbornness 😁
Franchement respect!!
Bravo!
Tremendously proud of your amazing achievement. I have been following your adventures for a few years now and they inspire me in my own bikepacking experiences. Congratulations!
Thanks
It's always a privilege and an honor to inspire people to ride their bike
respect thats crazy
Congratulations Sofiane! Incredible show of strenght and resilience of mind in face of adversity and the determination to succeed. Looking forward to the epic edit of the GoPro footage)
I was wishing for a smooth run here this year, but I guess I'll have to wait another edition for things to go smoothly 😅
Thanks for taking the trouble and telling this story. Hard as nails
Well it seems a few people were interested in hearing it and I didn't have much to do
We're waiting for the full movie🔥🔥🔥
congratulations on your victory!
It will come rather sooner than later
Congratulations from David Tilly from Ireland, nothing better than that winning feeling. I hope to get on the start list for Atlas race. Thanks for all the valuable information you have shared.
Happy to help
Wow… even exciting without a video! Amazing willpower to get back after that crash… and to win…😮🎉
Thank you Sofiane for also sharing a side of your mentality, which is what’s necessary for such events. I also think the biggest difference is how you seem to see and appreciate the beauty of the land amidst all the terrible conditions ❤.
There's something that people sometimes say: "you go so fast that you don't really see the beauty". But as you said, I see it. I witness it with my own eyes, all the time, and I love it. You can be fast and appreciate.
Many congratulations. Enjoy the after party, this evening. See you next year!!
Sadly I can't attend the party. But thanks
Congratulations! Final thoughts, well said!
Just the honest truth. Even if it may sound arrogant. But can you succeed if you don't firmly believe in yourself?
Love metaphorical questions !!!
👍
Questions, which, as everybody and their dog knows (or should know), do not elicit a response.
Epic race, and yes, what a horrible start. Thanks for the update on how you did and huge respect and congratulations.
It seems I can't have a smooth run here. But hey it's okay as long as I go home with the W 🙂
You Ultra folks are another level! Sofiane, another absolutely epic ride - number 1 again 🎉💥😎💪🙌🙌
Can hardly believe it
Unimaginable to push so hard with so little sleep. Thanks for sharing. An insight to your metabolism during the race, if it’d been possible, would be fascinating.
I can't pretend to comprehend what happens in both my brain and my body during those events
You should get in touch with NASA, ain’t kidding.
For the record, there are numerous examples of collaborations between NASA and people into pushing human limits.
Noticeably a few French,
Michel Siffre, who lived alone a cave for months was offered the opportunity to do it again in a Texas cave fully furnished by NASA with monitoring equipment.
Should memory serve, Jacques Mayol was approached by NASA, a short lived collaboration ( NASA found him « difficult » to work with, I believe).
More recently, and she eventually joined NASA and still works for them Dr Nathalie Cabrol, also a diver, but who dives in lakes at 6000m of elevation🤪
Get in touch with Nathalie, Sofiane, maybe she can recommend you for a job at NASA😉
@@cyclistefroisse9267 Thanks but I'm very happy with my current job
Chapeau .

Congratulations Sofiane! 3 times winner, what an achievement. Can't wait for the race film. Well done!

Quel mental👋👋👋👋

Legend
Merci 🙏
Oh goodness what a start. But the finish was epic!! Well done. Was dot watching so could see you were still in the race, but did miss the snippets along the routes we normally get. Rest well.
One of the many downsides of not having a phone 😕
Massive welldone Sofiane, awesome commentary aswell, thanks. Would love to atempt the SRMR one day, just completing it would be a dream.
It's not an easy task but it's not impossible either. It just takes a lot of dedication
Amazing W !!! You did it !! I'm so happy for you, always epic adventures!! Sofian rocks, now get some sleep!😉👌
Plenty of sleep since the race ended, don't worry 😴
👏👏👏 bravos
Ridiculous. I honestly didn't think you would win this year considering the lineup. Just goes to show what your mind can make your body do when you have the absolute determination and focus that you had with this. Congratulations and thanks for the inspiration.
To be fair, you were not the only one thinking I was not the favorite. And while during the race there was no doubt in my mind I was going to win, beforehand I was full of doubt.
Live by the sunrise
It must have felt like a dream
You looked like you cracked yourself wide open with this win!
Congratulation Sofian! One of your most epic races! Legend! Enjoyed dot watching for sure
@@tellit_one3613 oh believe it felt very real! It's the middle of the night, right before going to sleep that felt like a dream
Merci infiniment
I never before cared about watching bike racing or any other sport, but you are amazing and an inspiration. Congratulations!
Glad I made you discover the joys of dotwatching 😊
Congratulations. I look forward to a video on your race winning gear, what you have learned winning Silk Road Mountain Race 3 times, what you've changed (such as the choice of a full suspension mountain bike), and why. Keep inspiring.
We just shot a bike check video yesterday. It will be online soon
Congratulation Soufiane and thanks for sharing your experience with us, je vois que la victoire ete loin d'être facile cette fois mais comme votre détermination et votre soiffe de victoire sont hors paires on attends toujours qui sera le 2eme ; keep going take care especially for yourself and see you very soon
Merci infiniment
Merci 🙌
Congrats, Sofiane o/
Looking forward to watching the film from the race!!! The fact that you were able to film during the ordeal just adds to the accomplishment 😂
I wouldn't call it an ordeal. It's quite fun at times 😊

I would love to do a Silk Road but when i hear mr. Sofiane saying "Hike a Bike" for 5 hours now 6 hours later after that more 3 hours damn that hurts even from just imagining me hiking that much LOL
That's the reality of this race!
Salut Sofiane,
As usual, first checked the comments, lots of interesting questions that’ll, hopefully, will be answered in due time.
Thanks for this debrief, only days after the end of a fascinating race between elite male and female riders.
You, little devil 😉got a lot of people, I’d bet, scratching their heads frantically, wondering what was going on.
Could help feeling sorry for Manu, and later for Tristan when their dots disappeared
Major bummer for Manu who is a super nice guy. One of the few that stopped to check if I was OK when I crashed. Despite having legitimate ambitions for a podium finish.
Hey Sofiane!! Congratulations 🎉 So happy for your success and thank you for the cool video. Hope you are fine back home and everything worked out well🏡
We are wondering: after the race could you directly go to sleep our was your body still full of adrenalin and adventure and it took you some time??
Kind regards and all the best for your amazing future,
Laura and Simon, the two germans from Karakol Bayotel;)
Hey! So nice to hear from you 😀 I'm as much a tourer as a racer, so it's always a pleasure for me share stories with fellow tourers.
after the race I had a big meal and immediately went to sleep. There was no adrenalin left and the minute I closed my eyes, I was gone to dream land.
Encore bravo big boss. 👏🏽🎩. Hats off...
Non malheureusement, j'étais trop occupé à chasser Justin et garder Jakub à distance !
Congratulations.....bro, you are the emperor of cycling and there are no two ways about it.
Is there any video on your bike, it's modification for the race and the way you set it up?
Please share its link.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Yours truly,

Amazing ride Sofiane. Well done. Do you have any advice for knee pain on long rides? I attempted a bike packing race recently but had to pull out as my knees started hurting too much. To prevent this from happing in my next race, do you think it a case of just getting more time on the bike to prepare, or do you think specific strength training is the way to solve this?
Hey man. I 'm sorry I don't have any advice regarding knee pain as it is something I have never experienced when cycling. Maybe you can try checking with a bike fitter, a physician or a coach.
@@sofianeshl Thanks for the reply! Ah ok, no worries! Yes - I will look into those. All the best
Super impressive -- do you tend to hike-a-bike in your clipless shoes, or do you change when you're having to hike five hours
I hike with the same shoes I ride in. This year I went with a pair of Northwave Rockit plus and I was super happy with it
@@sofianeshl awesome, thank you! This is some of the best cycling content on RUclips, get to see a side of racing that's definitely less well known
Encore bravo sinon 🙌🏻
Exhausted because of the race or too many nights at the karaoké? Haha
Bien joué !
I can now carry my bottle of vodka under the down tube for even crazier karaoke night
@@sofianeshl hahaha happy to be linked to this aspect of your life 🤣
Bravo Sofiane! Quelle perf!
Again, congrats for this amazing show of mental strength and composure.
bravo Mr Sofiane Hellofromparis
🙏🙏🙏
A big congratulation to you Sofiane, you've cemented your Legendary status in SRMR with a third win.
I think next year you don't need to prove anything, you can skip the race and give others a chance. 😀
At least you've done from the SRMR in a high note. Just my idea though.
I think I'm done racing SRMR to win it. Three is a good number
Well done Sofiane ! Which shoes did you wear ? Thanks.
Far out
