- Rigoletto is one of Verdi's most famous works. The action of the opera is based on sharp dramatic contrasts. At the center of it is a sharp psychological drama that comprehensively outlines the image of Rigoletto - a sarcastic court jester, a tender, deeply suffering father, a formidable avenger. He is confronted by a frivolous and depraved duke, outlined against the background of court life. Spiritual purity, selfless devotion are personified in the image of the young Gilda.
These contrasting characters are vividly, with a remarkable wealth of psychological nuances, embodied in the music of the opera.

Depicting Gilda as an ascending angel was a stroke of genius! Alas, the degenerate West, Italy included, no longer stages opera the traditional way. One has to turn to Russia, Turkey and the Orient in order to enjoy it...

I spent hours to watch and listen to this , and its not enough .I also spent few seconds to some of the negative comments ,and even that was waste of time.
It’s actually impressive to see that people can sing like that 👏😟
Visually Beautiful production. Staged as it should be. With period sets and costumes. The singers are on a roller coaster. Sometimes good, other times bad. The singers needed acting coach’s.

I enjoyed this production of Rigoletto. The timing was a bit off at times it appeared, but over all a good production. It never ceases to amaze me how the human body can become a musical instrument.

Absolutely love the sounds they produce. Great talents. Great gifts.
One of the best sets for this opera I have ever seen. The voice and performance of Gilda are outstanding! However, this version skipped an aria of Duke Mantua in act 3 (54'08", just before he entered his bedroom to do bad things to Gilda).

@@mireyanienstadt375 Sort of pointless to me rf you don't know Italian and many more operas are in Russian and I have no problem understanding them, there should be subtitles anyway as in every opera theater especially when it's presented by the Russian opera house

@@BytomGirl I'm Italian and I sometimes feel like that they don't know what they are saying exactly (meaning) so it clear that the interpretation can't be the best... But I can understand what they say, however I already knew many words so maybe it's because of this.

Ma chi ha selezionato i cantanti?!? Sospetto che sia stata Maria Guleghina, perché cantano come lei negli ultimi tempi... Tutto basato sull'effetto degli acuti sparati con sufficiente precisione, poco importa se la voce traballa tra crepe orripilanti e se il resto del cantato è un pasticcio (evidente anche a quei conoscitori che come me non hanno mai visto lo spartito di quest'opera... 😳)

Somebody kick me for thinking Russians could learn how to pronounce Italian. I couldn’t watch the whole thing, it hurt me from my ears to my heart. Verdi is weeping in the grave.

You should listen to Dmitri Hvorostovsky, in Verdi or napolitan songs . His italian pronouciation is perfect .
What a striking disparity between the quality of the set and costumes and the quality of the cast... Their Italian... The technique... more than all the others, the Duke is a joke! 😅

This is opera as it used to be and should have remained, with realistic sets and period costumes, not street clothes and empty stages, which is all too common these days.

@@xv12commander rigoletto,das grösste musikdrama aller zeiten...bis heute.verdi selbst hat es gefühlt...dieses meisterwerk würde er selbst nie mehr übertreffen können
...und doch ist es ihm mit "trovatore" und "traviata" BEINAHE nochmals gelungen...(die grossen 3 1851-53)

Opera improvvisata, raffazzonata. Non è Rigoletto, è una pessima parodia di RIGOLETTO! Acuti sparati come ululati, armonici assenti, voci centrali, piani e pianissimi latitanti. Soprattutto non vi è una frase scenica che esprima al minimo lo stato d'animo del personaggio. Non rabbia, nè angoscia, nè strazio! Strano, perché dalla Russia sono arrivate e continuano ad arrivare dei giovani cantanti lirici ( di tutti i ruoli vocali) di tutto rispetto e perfino delle Star! Questi devono imparare la pronuncia italo-verdiana, il che non è facile: ci vuole scuola, tempo e talento. Ma la Netrebko, la Garanca, l'Oworkoschi, ci sono riusciti. Per non parlare bassi Bulgari , Cristoff e Nicolai Ghiaurow: fenomeni! Ho sentito giovani con voci basse ma prive di modulazione, senza centro nè punte e con pronunce orribili. Irina Kostenko ( maddalena) nel suo ruolo minore, si salva !
Verdi didn’t give the Ladies Chorus a singing role,,,Mens Chorus had machismo singing while the Ladies Chorus were for “decoration”.
Then a surprise we actually have enough mens chorus for Zitti Zitti ???,,,but not for the storm scene.
How strange.

Anatoly Mikhailov should have sung Rigoletto. Kalashnikov is terrible.
