    • @someonesomeone25
      @someonesomeone25 Год назад +14

And both of these must be evidenced by externals. If other people love me, and others give me recognition for my abilities, I will have esteem. If they do not, then even in the unlikely event I feel esteem ir would be considered an arrogant delusion by others.
But love and recognition for talent are.not things that everyone can achieve equally. A handsome and highly.intelligent, high status person will get more esteem for less effort than a repulsive poor idiot. On that sense, self-esteem is as much a matter of luck as everything else.

@EzC Fenix Make friends, have a romantic relationship, and get good at something. There's basically no other way.

    • @someonesomeone25
      @someonesomeone25 Год назад

@EzC Fenix Form a specific plan.
To become good at something requires three things:
      1) picking something that it's possible for you to be good at. Some things have hard genetic barriers, like maths or singing or athletics. If you haven't got the right genes you'll never be great at such things. But most things don't have such clear genetic barriers - playing guitar, speaking German, juggling, painting, etc. Find something you can become at.
      2) regular practice. When you've decided what you want to become good at, do it daily for 6months and you'll be much better than most. Do it daily for 5 years and you'll be top percent. Do it daily for 15 years you'll be a master.
      3) mentorship - having good teachers makes you better. Put some effort and money into what you want to be good at and it will pay dividends.
To make friends also requires a plan:
      1) join at least 4 varied groups, such as a hobby group, sports group, education, religious, political, social, etc. And in that group make sure you speak to everyone and get as many social media contacts as possible. Go regularly and talk to prople regularly.
      2) go to bars and cafes and speak to strangers. Make a habit of doing this weekly. Become a regular at a pub or games shop or cafe. Get to know the staff.
      3) to be personable be confident, well groomed, ask questions and listen twice as much as talking. Smile a lot. Laugh easily.

Pre watch: Back in 2019 when i felt like utter GARBAGE, my secretary gave me a little tip that helped me grow and change. Heres what she said:
Every morning when u wake up, look at yourself in the mirror and verbally tell yourself 5 personality traits u have that u love. Not physical traits, but personality traits. It can be the same 5 at 1st, but overtime? Aim to find new ones. Not going to lie, the 1st couple days/weeks its going to be TOUGH, but the journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. And arent u worth putting in the effort for?
One of the BEST pieces of advice ive ever gotten. It made me more self reflective. Whenever I said something harsh or like i didnt intend, i could catch myself, realize what i did wrong, think of who i wanted to be in that situation, and change it to what i MEANT to truly say. U pick up on things about yourself much better. As well as feel more complete.
I swear i wish she was around when i graduated so i couldve hugged her and told her how thankful i was for her kind words💯
I hope this advice manages to help someone else one day. Gotta pass it forward and give someone else a chance👍🏾💪🏾

    1. Stop comparing yourself- Instead of telling us to stop, tell us how to stop. Give us some ideas that we can use to stop comparing ourselves. I've compared myself with my brother since the beginning of time. How can I stop? It's like telling me how to breath different. Help me stop. 2. Perfectionism- we can overcome that for your four reasons. It is hard to figure out "reasonable goals". Allowing room for mistakes? My whole life seems one mistake after another. But, that's just life. Some things I do right and can get a sense of accomplishment and pride. 3. Find what you are good at and developed it. Okay, that one I have done to some extent. I make and sell polymer Dragons and jewelry. I am a good friend, so I have been told. I am loyal to my friends. I am going to start learning to crochet. It's just that I don't seem to be good at much. But I am trying. 4. Focus on the things you can change- Things in my control. I can focus on the things I want to do better. But my depression makes me see that it is so much work that I'd rather go back to bed. I'm working on this one. Wow! I have never heard about Productive Worry. That I can use against depression. Thank you for that one. Boy, I really needed this episode. I have so little self-esteem, but I have been working on this point-negative self-talk. I frequently call myself names in my mind. I am working on not doing that for 1 hour. I will increase that when I have success.

Pay attention to those you're comparing yourself with, and take note of their mistakes and signs of imperfection (everybody's got them). Or try some good old fashioned empathy. Sometimes the success you see in them comes at a great price that you don't know. My oldest friend appears to have it all, the wealth, the confidence, beautiful wife, house, holidays, marathon runs etc. In truth he's unable to stop himself from working and has an unhealthy addiction to money, he can't allow any part of his day to be controlled by anyone other than himself, he can only sustain surface level friendships, he always longed for his dad's approval and found out in his 40s that he was 'donor conceived', he is unable to do the basic domestic duties e.g. can't cook/clean/wash clothes, unable to empathise, sexless marriage to a willing wife who is only starting to realise that he never wanted children and lied about his plans all along.
He still desperately needs his father's approval and tries to fill the void by seeking admiration from people he doesn't know and doesn't need in his life. The traits that have made him successful are also detrimental to him. For me to enjoy his success would come at the cost of my identity, and I'm not gonna find another one like that anywhere else!

Love that quote shared about how we can't compare our 'inside' to someone else's 'outside'. I know of people who are beautiful, successful, have a large and engaged following on social media, have been featured in large publications, etc... fom a 30,000 ft. view, they seem like they have it all. Yet personally knowing them, they have good hearts but struggle with crippling anxiety and/or other mental (even physical) health disorders, attachment issues, trauma, Imposter Syndrome... this doesn't make them bad people. It makes them human. We're all on a journey as we return to wholeness. 🌱

    1. Stop Comparing yourself to others.
I get it, but what if you are comparing yourself to, well, yourself.
It is a metric you are trying to work on and you ask yourself "am I better off now that I was a week ago"
or what ever the metric is that you choose.
    2. Prefectionism
I get I'm not perfect, I don't believe I am. And in fact I believe we learn from our mistakes so some mistakes are important for growth.
    3. Figure out what I am good at.
I actually have a long list of things I am good at.
I write music, I am good at learning language (both computer and linguistic), I can make friends pretty easily.
    4. Focus on what I can change.
This is a question, isn't it?
I want to change how I feel about myself.
That is easier said than done.
I have listed my Unproductive worries which means I cannot control what I want to change.
    That's pretty depressing.

Hey, that's great to know that you're willing to take on challenges that will gradually build you as an individual who (I'm assuming) is ready to make sacrifices and endure potential obstacles in order to embrace the next phase of your life and how you choose to live life. Based on my experiences in my early 20s, it was fun in many ways, but I've realized that the older I've gotten...the more I believe that challenging yourself to do certain tasks is important to an extent - but not worth the sacrifice if it doesn't feel right. And as somebody who's been rejected by peers, past friends, and colleagues; they really don't have the influence on me (like I used to think) but it actually has helped make me a stronger, wiser, and knowledgeable person and in regard to whatever challenges come your way; I wish you the best of luck and highest level of success that is within your realm. I'm sure whatever you put your mind to, you'll do great things! There will probably be a lot of ups and downs, but realize that even if achieving something is difficult; it's not impossible either. Blessings 🙏

Thank you for the video! The thing I enjoy the most is doing art. I was amazed by how I could put the worlds inside my head right into a paper and that's why I neevr stopped drawing. However after making the decision to turn it into a career I have been more aware of my peers that are so much better than me, the peers that will apply to the same unis as me. I have been drawing just to fill my portfolio as well and I believe these elements are making me forget the reason I like art, lowering my self esteem and raising my insecurities. I hope in the end I will be able to turn my passion into a career. Hope all of you do what you enjoy too!! have a good day/night!

Avoid watching TV/Radio news to much. 20 mins a day is enough. Understand what is behind all the bad news (usually greedy persons) and work at improving the lot of those near you and far away. "Be versed in action (good deeds) yet try to remain unaffected by your actions" Gandhi.

@@Psych2go A few things. Acknowledging the problem has been a big help. Then I can actively work on it. I've been doing a lot if reading/research on mental health to get more info. A lot of it has been retraining my thought process to not be so negative. And when I am having a "bad day", I know it's just that, and focus on stuff that make me happy to help get through it. A favorite show, music, friends whatever I think will help. Plus, just getting older and "wiser"-ish. Lol. Thanks for asking. And thanks for the videos. They have been a helpful resource as well:)

@@randomguy9511and to reiterate what you explained - I've had a lot of similar experiences myself - and believe me; it's not fun. But I also believe that one major aspect of life we all struggle to cope with is ACCEPTANCE: meaning that we don't always have to be happy with every little choice we make or second guess ourselves to the point where it drives us crazy....however I think the rhetoric we set for ourselves as individuals is a big aspect of developing and maintaining reasonable self-esteem (which I've never always have been the best with). And as somebody who's a sports fan and tries to have a strong awareness of issues that affect us all on a socioeconomic, sociopolitical, and sociocultural level; I believe that acknowledging any triggers related to what I briefly described is necessary for getting along but at the same time - appreciating the skills you (that us all) were blessed with, and not always worrying what others think. Having some sort of bias or validation is important depending on your situation; but even more important that you have resources to work with even if your self-esteem is far from perfect. If I'm wrong in this instance, then it can only make me work harder and feel stronger on the inside knowing I at least put in a genuine effort to spread awareness.
      Blessings as well 🙏

As a performing artist, I always struggle with accepting that I can't be perfect. I'm a perfectionist, at least when it comes to myself. I can easily accept and even like other people's imperfections. But I'm very strict with myself. ,,My form isn't good enough, I need to practice that more", ,,I need to exercise, I'm not strong enough yet", ,,I need to track calories, because my body shape isn't beautiful", ,,I need to do the full 50min of cardio today, even though I'm not feeling well". I centered my complete life around my career and that was what broke me. I couldn't go to grab a coffee with my mother when we went to Starbucks anymore without writing down the extra calories. I had either cardio or strength training every day for 6 days a week. I had to track my protein consumption to make sure I'm not losing strength. Spend hours in practice every day. Either contortion, aerial or breaking (a B-Girl that does contortion and aerial hoop, I know that a weird combination). Sometimes even all on one day, or several practice sessions a day. On some days I fell asleep with my teddy in my arms while crying my heart out on his shoulder because I felt so hopeless. The next morning I would wake up without any energy left, sometimes in pain from overtraining the last days, and I would need two hours to get out of bed. That lifestyle, driven by my urge to be perfect, drained me from all the joy and excitement I once felt while practicing. The reason for why I picked up each of those things, let it be breaking, contortion or aerial hoop, was because it made me feel happy and free. But I came to a point where I felt trapped in that because of the pressure I put on myself. Thankfully, I got reminded of why I'm doing all of this. And all it took to change my mind was a performance by my biggest role models (at least when it comes to breaking), the Flying Steps. I finally got to see them perform again yesterday, and they inspired me to overthink my decisions and reminded me that I don't need to destroy myself like that just to be successful.

Self-esteem is extremely difficult for many to obtain because it really requires a minimum of the following: a genuinely high level of skill in something and to have that recognised by others; a life lived consistently with one's of value system (thus nor feeling guilty for repeated moral failings); the respect, affection, and preferably love, of other people; evidence that your efforts are making an important contribution to some positive grand project.
Very few people can have these if they don't have have a suitable internal and external set of circumstances.
For example, if you are below average in intelligence, innate talent and physical prowess, and have limited free time and mentorship oportunies, what skills can you master? If you are ugly and unlikeable who is going to love you? If you arenaverage what important contribution can you possibly make? If you grow up in a terrible environment how can you survive without compromising your values?
It seems to me that self-esteem is a luxury enjoyed by a minority of talented wealthy people.

Catch yourself in the act, and consciously stop. It gets more and more easier. List for yourself all the reasons it's unreasonable to compare, and refer to it often:
      -Can't compare apples with oranges.
-I can see my full life; I can't see their full life, and so I can't really make an accurare comparison.
      - We have different purposes in life, and so their strengths and talents cannot be the same as mine. I'm happy for them for being good at that. I'm going to figure out what I'm good at and focus on developing it.
      - Stop/limit exposing youself to people or places (social media, etc) that make you feel bad about yourself.

'Compare Yourself To Who You Were Yesterday, Not To Who Someone Else Is Today'
From '12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos' by Jordan B. Peterson
This is how to you can stop comparing yourself to others, take inspiration from others sure. But you can compare yourself to someone who has a completely different life experience, genetics, etc. The differences are to major to make any real equation possible, on saying also here "If you met one person who is [race/gender, age, language, etc]. You met one person who is [...]."
Labels and category don't work either here as you would have to make too many intersections, and each label takes one part of a bigger whole into consideration but cannot on itself be used to identify a single person as too many also have this label and many other labels as well.

I hear that I can't be a perfectionist? Impossible, that is built into who I am. I refuse to fail, "it's not over until I win" mentality can change alot, if you have the right views on something then it can work. I've seen it, and I've done it.
