@@Kono_Dio-Da yep that’s it. If they had better direction their would probably be more yakuza games that were dubbed and if the game sold well maybe even some of the spin off’s coming to the west. @KingOfLegends23 in the first ps2 game did anyone know that the Majima was actually using an persona? I mean, in the first game you can't notice that it's all an act, you just think that he's a psycho
2:54. You wouldn't notice this on the original ps1 version, but on this HD version, kiryu is clearly wearing the tojo clan pin on his jacket. That random yakuza thug was dumb for even bothering to ask, when he could have just looked at kiryu's jacket. Also to disrespect a senior member of their own clan (even if unintentionally), they guy should have known better. Majima was right. the guy deserved more punishment.
If memory serves, Goro Majima has his own family (also his own construction business) this time around. His family is not a member of any clan and that one random Yakuza is a member of Majima family. It still makes sense that a member of a relatively new Yakuza group can't recognize the legendary dragon of Dojima who spent the last 10 years in prison.
So, Kiryu is way more deadpan than I remember, but there's still good voice acting there, mainly from Mark Hammil (Majima) and Michael Rosenbaum (Nishiki).
Yeah, he doesn't have as much depth for sure. He seems to just be portrayed as a badass only who knows exactly what to do and gets it done. In the sub he's still a badass, but it's like sometimes he seems like a genius and sometimes he just does things and that make him seem like a braindead moron. He also seemed to almost have Aspergers when it came to social interaction, which made for some hilarious moments given the context of the situation.
I think it was just the press not understanding the subtleties of Japanese culture translated for the West. But come to think of it, the fighting and mobster-like delivery of the voice actors is perfectly deserved, especially since now it's ingrained as a staple of the Yakuza series.
Ehh, can see why people don't like this dub. To be fair though, gotta give credit where credit is due, they at least properly pronounce the Japanese-native words. Not to mention Kazuma's English actor sounds like the best possible choice as far as tone goes. Sucks that the dub is ehh though, if memory serves, some of the casting choices were amazing (wasn't Mark Hamil chosen to voice Majima?, he could've channeled The Joker and called it a day).

Listening to this after seeing all the scenes up to this point in the Kiwami remake, the quality divide is pretty strong. It has nothing to do with the language or culture gap and everything to do with word choice and tone inflection that makes a jarring disconnect between what the game is saying, and what and how the actors are saying it. You expect me to believe that Nishiki, who just temporarily lost it after seeing his childhood friend get "hurt" by his boss, would have no emotion in his voice after realizing he killed his boss in a blind rage? And speaking of Yumi being "hurt", we all know what really happened in that room. Or do you expect me to believe that hardened Yakuza wouldn't allude to the word rape, but say fuck and bitch all day with no problems?
He doesn't sound fat enough. Michael Madsen's voice just doesn't suit Shimano; I think Kazama's VA would've been a better fit for thr former. Nishiki and Kazuki on the other hand, sound spot on.
Oh god, I can't believe you did this! Keep em coming! XD Btw, am I the only one here who would be interested in seeing Sega doing a high quality English dub of this remake purely out of nostalgia? Hell, I would even love to see a fandub/Let's dub of this! :)

I wouldn't say the series is on a downfall, would you? Unless you mean the west specifically, then you're probably right. Or maybe it's better to say it's struggling. Basically, by having an English dub, they could have exposed the series to gamers who might have liked it, but didn't want to have to read subtitles while playing.
If Sega times the western releases of 0 and 6 right, they might be able to pull in some more sales during a dry period, and because the current gen systems are relatively new. Here's hoping.

*y O u R e T a R d E d O r J u S t D e A f?*
Find it funny that Reina shares the same voice as Tifa Lockhart in English (Rachael Leigh Cook), yet in Kiwami. Yumi shares the same Japanese voice as Aerith Gainsborough (Maaya Sakamoto).
Kiryu's voice.. It's so hard to get used to
It was worth it to hear Mark Hamill as Majima and Eliza Dushku as Yumi again.
2:48 Did I hear David Hayter grunting followed with Quintin Flynn?
"alright I guess you're not an asshole, you're a piece of shit!" lmao golden
After hearing this i wouldn't mind the yakuza games getting dubbed. Dubbing has gotten better in the last 10 years so i would expect some great voice actors in this series.
Remember these times of PS1 survival horror's English dubs? That's a reminder of these times
17:46
Bruh it sounds like Peter griffin in the background
lol, indeed
Tbh i kinda like this dub, i dont know ive heard it so many times it started to get in my heart, its not great, but its not the worst thing ive heard in my life
This sounds like an abridged series

Everyone talking about Mark Hamill as Majima but I also love John DiMaggio as Kashiwagi
Make a new playlist where you combine your cutscenes video and boss fights video according to timeline. Easier to watch.
1:37 "When you don't pay your debts, i am that you get."
2:56 "Excuse you?! No! Fuck you!"
Didn't even know Majima was voiced by Mark until Majima started beating the guy up with his umbrella and Mark let his Joker voice slip lol
This dud brings back memories !
15:46 at first he sounded casual then turned into Marcus from gears of war
When you're reminded that Majima is freaking Mark Hamill.
This gives resident evil 1s goofy voice acting a run for its moneym WHAT A MANSION, YOU WERE ALMOST A JILL SANDWICH
You know I took Kiryu having a Liam O'Brien voice
The sauce of Dojima is back with better graphics
