    That was a wicked compilation and such amazing value for money, I had most of the games on it so never picked it up, but my favourite compilation was The In Crowd on the C64, Platoon, Last Ninja, Gryzor heck even target renegade was worth it as the whole pack cost about £15, and it came with Karnov and Predator as well.

    Solid compilation. I remember playing all of these as a kid with the exception of Infiltrator, I may have to rectify that at some point. I managed to beat Beach Head and Impossible Mission back in the day, both are particularly proud gaming memories.

    Impossible Mission. IMO the best game on the C64 ever, and I love a lot of them. To this day I complete it many times every year. Even though it's just down to how fast I do it now, it just never gets old.
    Every play through is completely randomised and unique. And two distinct phases of the gameplay; puzzle collecting (the action); and puzzle solving for the password (tip: always complete the former before attempting the latter).
    Both heaps of fun.

    A great budget compilation was Soft Aid with 10 games for £4.99 released in March 1985. The games were pretty average, but the value was incredible, just under 50p a game and if that wasn't enough, at the start on side 1 you also had an audio recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid. Here's the list of games: Gumshoe, Beamrider, Star Trader, Kokotoni, Wilf, China Miner, Gilligan's Gold, Fred, Gyropod, Falcon Patrol and Flak.

    • @pjcnet
      @pjcnet 12 дней назад

      PS: The U.S. Gold - History in the Making compilation was probably the best compilation ever as in the best games and would have been incredible for someone new, but late to the C64 in Christmas 1988, but then I personally had all the games on it already. I however upgraded to a C64 in 1984 from a TI99/4A and by 1985 I only had one game on the Soft Aid compilation, also some games included were less popular, but still reasonable meaning less people had them. Budget titles were still new then too, Mastertronic released their first £1.99 games in April 1984 and most were poor at first, so 50p a game in early 1985 was a steal.

    I remember Taito's Coin op Hits being a great compilation on the C64. Slap Fight, Bubble Bobble, Arkanoid 1 & 2 & Renegade all being fantastic ports. Flying Shark was an ok port and legend of Kage & Rastan, although not terrible are the weakest games on the pack.
    Well worth doing a vid on this gem of a compilation

    • @Simon0
      @Simon0 12 дней назад +1

      Oh I just gotta rave about this collection taito legends two on PS2. 39 games loads of them freaking awesome. I been playing it for weeks.
      Also it got me onto the bust a move series! It's called puzzle bobble 2 on taito legends and I saw that title and immediately thought eh that's one I'll probably play once then never touch again. Liked it so much I ended up getting super bust a move for PS2 as well as bust a move four for playstation and even the ds bust a move. That series is awesome so intelligently designed.
      Although super bust a move 2 for PS2 (I got that as well! You can see I went crazy for this series lol) wasn't very good. There's a couple of things which ruined that game. Mainly the bomb bubble thing which breaks the game and uninspired level design. The others I've played are awesome though. Super bust a move 1 for PS2 is the best one.
      Anyway sorry for such a long comment 😂

    Express Raider - The arcade version has an American flag flying above the building on the first game screen, but yet the train is European. I'll never understand why all the developers of games with trains in them, did this.
    The Goonies - I liked this and managed to get to the last screen (the ship). I couldn't figure out what to do, and the need to start over from the beginning when you lost all your lives, kind of sapped my ambition to keep trying.
    Infiltrator - I had a copy of this, but never had the manual, so I had no idea what to do. In fact, I never even knew there was an on-foot section, I thought the entire game was flying the helicopter.
    Leaderboard - Actually, the original game, as well as the Tournament disk, had four courses each. Then there was Executive Leaderboard with only two courses, and finally World Class Leaderboard, which went back to four courses for the base game and each of the Famous Courses data disks.

    Now, if you were a new C64 user in 1988 this represented very good value for money - there's a couple of all-time classics in there and some very good other games. A couple of weaker titles, and definitely better to play on disk than tape (Road Runner is a very long multiload, for example). Personally I think Magnificent Seven is the best ever compilation (three all-time greats on there) but this is up there among the best.
