In my country, the Oneplus 8 (non-pro) is $100 more than the iPhone 11 Pro ($50 less than the Pro Max), and The iPhone 11 pro is about 2.2 times the price of the iPhone SE. But I understand it's not like that for the majority of countries.

Basics is smooth UI, average battery/display/camera, regular updates(security+functional features), best appstore/ecosystem, best audio/video capabilities and better build quality. So I think basics are covered, it's not best compared to other phines. But it does the basic stuff right.

It's not a phone for phone enthusiasts, but tech lovers can still appreciate it. It's just a simple phone for the basics (web browsing, texting, calling, etc.) I have a DSLR for photography, and a gaming PC, laptop, and Nintendo Switch for games. Also, I was tired of Android manufacturers abandoning security updates after less than a couple of years.

iPhone will always be a luxury in India. Be it 11Pro or SE. We don't have a minimum wage rate of $10/hr and never will inorder to keep food, clothing and essentials cheap. Govt. not taxing it will result in minor change in its sale. In a country where over 80% of people buy sub $300 phones, even if Iphones were to sell at US rates people just won't buy them, people wouldn't want to pay for music & most of the apps too. So they aren't meant for price sensitive country like India.

As someone who consumes their media and games on a smart tv or laptop this SE is perfect for me. Basically just need a simple thing for podcast/music listening, work calls and texting...don't need a giant screen expensive phone for that.

In Steve Jobs' day, that quote was fine. Apple today does not give people what they don't know they want. Apple today takes ideas and makes them better… and takes 3-4 years to do that. I don't like waiting that long and getting old features in the meantime. At the end of the day though, I'm to blame: I use an iPhone 11 Pro.

Apple is a genius of marketing, and most normal people are too ignorant to notice its manipulation. It does everything to maximise its profits over the long run, even if they might come out with bad sales there is a reason.
I believe whole heartedly they made this phone for everyone who doesn’t care about what their smartphone can do. They just want reliable performance for the basics like you said, and don’t want to break the bank to do it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

My mom with an android was a nightmare, she would get all the bullshit ads tells you to get, random games, different keyboards, animated screensavers, random apps that I was not sure what they were. She then would complain about how slow her phone was. Got her the last SE, and that’s it. She still downloads random games and stuff, but no weird mods to her phone...
Hsh Benben Because in 2020, “the basics” almost always include smartphone features that dumb phones don’t have. Communication apps have become standard for many people. My parents can’t communicate with relatives overseas without WhatsApp, short of paying outrageous fees for international calling/texting. Video chat is almost catching up in terms of “basic mode of communication”, especially during this crisis.

I just got my SE and I love it. I upgraded from my 7 Plus so I’m still getting used to the smaller size but other than that it’s perfect for me. I don’t play games on my phone so battery life isn’t an issue. The camera is outstanding!
Don't worry, this phone will get throttled down by iOS pretty quickly because of the small battery and how it'll get through a lot of charge cycles in a short period of time.
It won’t be throttled down lol. The a13 is more efficient than all the past chips. It has better battery life than the iPhone 8 or similar so no point. Battery tests aim to drain it quickly not in real life use. Standby decrease is legit nothing over a day. My phone stayed at 100% for 8 hours when i was at work so I think everyone using this will be fine
Peter the Panda I still use my iphone 7 and I used to hammer the battery everyday by just using the hotspot for hours a day. It’s been 3 years now and the phone is still snappy and the battery is “good enough” at 81% max capacity.

I just upgraded to the new SE from an iPhone 5, which is still in excellent condition, and was OK for my purposes. The battery still held a charge. I purchased the new SE over other phones because of its size. I wanted a new phone that fits comfortably in my pocket and hand. Not everyone wants a 'big' phone.

I had the 8 in red and now I got this se in red so I’m happy. I’m not so into phones as I was before and so something that does what it needs to and isn’t that expensive and has the potential to last a good 2-3 years is perfect for me
As a photographer, I cried so much when Daves tacled the Iphone SE for bad night mode photography. Because lets be honest, its just intended software limitation.
Ivan Lubis when you talk about Smartphones’ cameras, there is 3 points to study : -the sensor (the size of it) -the lens and how they designed it -the internal photo processing software (colour correction/ chromatic aberration/ contrast and so on..). Apple imo has the best internal photo processing software as for now, and many photographers may agree with me. What I mean with the SE 2020? It is that with photo processor software, normally you can choose the shutter speed but Apple decided to lock all the manual modes and prefers to use an automatic c one for photo newbies. Night mode could easily be implemented in this SE because it has the right processor (A13 Bionic) and thus could easily handle a night mode processing. For me ( but I don’t how the software processes), night mode is a mix between long exposure & white & lights enhancement. These things Can be easily done by the SE but imo Apple locked this feature for marketing segmentation.... this is my point.
I love haw he said that the main cons in SE are the screen, battery and the camera.. Those three things are literally the most important and main things in a phone, exept the prosessor.
To you, personally. I've had flagships as long as I can remember and they're just getting too damn big and cumbersome to use so I bought the SE. All I do is text, call and browse social media on my phone, I don't care for a huge screen or the best camera "on a phone," I have a camera for that. Battery life part is legit, I'm worried about the battery life for sure but if it's terrible I can just sell it for a small loss and get something else.
What I’ve learned from this whole 2020 SE thing is that Apple’s marketing team knows how to use their name and the “Apple mystique” well. They can sell.
Apple has a reputation of quality. I bought a cheaper android before with some cool features and it crapped out on me in 6 months. When I buy an Apple, i know its good for around 4 years of use.

Third-party camera apps like "Neuralcam" can be used for night mode on SE. Also this app allows all the cameras to have night mode while the stock cam only allows on the main rear camera.

Thank you for your input. I bought this for my dad since his phone was in need for an upgrade. He doesn’t need all the fancy tech stuff and still opted for an iPhone to FaceTime with his grandchildren. It’s affordable and he’s already accustomed to the Apple interface. 🙌🤙

It should have pretty good battery life given the low-res screen and more efficient processor (as long as you’re not playing games for hours). It’s not Pixel 4 bad by any means. Worse comes to worse you can probably buy the old Apple battery case.
I mean they were able to keep costs low because they didn't have to design anything new. It's literally an iPhone 8 chassis with a chip upgrade I think. So it has the same bad battery.
Here is a suggestion, I'm very late but whatever. If you are having difficulties with the batter life of the Iphone se, go to amazon and buy a case by ekrist for the iphone 8. It fits on the Iphone se and packs a 6000mah battery. You can get through two days no problem while playing heavy processor intensive games. Plus it is very cheap only 30 bucks I'm sure many people who can buy a phone can buy this case that not only protects the phone but increases the battery life.
When you game with the charger connected but still lose battery because the trash 5W charger can't push enough juice to feed the A13. NOT SO FUN FACT: the original iPhone came with a 5W charger more than 10 years ago
If Samsung or anyone supported the software for 5+ years would be nice. My mom still loves her S7, but soon it won't be getting updates, and phone's hardware still has many years left otherwise, so I've been thinking about having her try something like this Apple, though she might be annoyed by several of its limitations, such as ring/alarm volume are the same? Not to mention the poor low light photography.
The phone doesn't stop working if it doesn't get anymore updates ,I used my note 4 for 3 years and I also kept it on android 5.1 for all that time and it only slowed down when I filled up 96 GB of storage (32GB internal +64 microsd)

Yup! Decent phone with specs to be useable for 3+ years and a reputable name on the back. The single most offputting thing about $400 phones to most people is the brands selling them. And most budget Samsungs are underpowered compared to an 865, so wouldn't last so long.

S7 still has a better screen technically than S20, it may have the bezel but has a higher ppi than S20 Ultra, I would still by S7 over SE anyday. Apple is putting mean pricing on every other product, look at the apple wheels 699$ are you kidding me?, I could replace all my four car wheels for less than half. Apple is living off of the empire Steve Jobs had built, but from what I can see the clock is ticking and soon people will realize how apple is playing them like a puppet with the ecosystem, lightning port on SE should make it pretty evident on what they are actually trying to do

G. Marius 3 concerns not problem u dumy dum dum😂 u better know that the SE is one hell of a camera for its price. The screen is really fine for an average user no big deal. The battery well it might not be as great but remember the phone despite its metal and glass body is thin and light weight.
Amal Joe if it is not cheap, neither for an android phone is. Name a phone that can compete with this one in terms of reliability, raw performance, video recording quality not to mention the picture quality, even the design and the build quality. Look I came from a pixel 3a to this phone and I can argue that even the upcoming 4a can’t compete against this SE.
The benefits I see with the iPhone SE: 1. Updates for many years to come. 2. Price (even though it's more expensive here). 3. A quite good camera. 4. Excellent performance. 5. It's small (at least compared to todays phones, still large compared to my original SE).

As someone who consumes their media and games on a smart tv or laptop this SE is perfect for me. Basically just need a simple thing for podcast/music listening, work calls and texting...don't need a giant screen expensive phone for that.

I don't have a single problem with se except the battery cause for a guy that plays a few games on his phone the battery drainage is a big problem.

I believe whole heartedly they made this phone for everyone who doesn’t care about what their smartphone can do. They just want reliable performance for the basics like you said, and don’t want to break the bank to do it. Nothing more. Nothing less.
The mom comment was on point. My mom with an android was a nightmare, she would get all the bullshit ads tells you to get, random games, different keyboards, animated screensavers, random apps that I was not sure what they were. She then would complain about how slow her phone was.

Communication apps have become standard for many people. My parents can’t communicate with relatives overseas without WhatsApp, short of paying outrageous fees for international calling/texting. I just got my SE and I love it. I upgraded from my 7 Plus so I’m still getting used to the smaller size but other than that it’s perfect for me. I don’t play games on my phone so battery life isn’t an issue. The camera is outstanding!

Don't worry, this phone will get throttled down by iOS pretty quickly because of the small battery and how it'll get through a lot of charge cycles in a short period of time.

It won’t be throttled down lol. The a13 is more efficient than all the past chips. It has better battery life than the iPhone 8 or similar so no point. Battery tests aim to drain it quickly not in real life use. Standby decrease is legit nothing over a day. My phone stayed at 100% for 8 hours when i was at work so I think everyone using this will be fine

Peter the Panda I still use my iphone 7 and I used to hammer the battery everyday by just using the hotspot for hours a day. It’s been 3 years now and the phone is still snappy and the battery is “good enough” at 81% max capacity.

I just upgraded to the new SE from an iPhone 5, which is still in excellent condition, and was OK for my purposes. The battery still held a charge. I purchased the new SE over other phones because of its size. I wanted a new phone that fits comfortably in my pocket and hand. Not everyone wants a 'big' phone.
Turn on low power mode while playing games, its saves a ton of battery and I do not feel it impacts performance while gaming.

As a photographer, I cried so much when Daves tacled the Iphone SE for bad night mode photography. Because lets be honest, its just intended software limitation.

Ivan Lubis when you talk about Smartphones’ cameras, there is 3 points to study :
-the sensor (the size of it)
-the lens and how they designed it
-the internal photo processing software (colour correction/ chromatic aberration/ contrast and so on..).
Apple imo has the best internal photo processing software as for now, and many photographers may agree with me.
What I mean with the SE 2020? It is that with photo processor software, normally you can choose the shutter speed but Apple decided to lock all the manual modes and prefers to use an automatic c one for photo newbies. Night mode could easily be implemented in this SE because it has the right processor (A13 Bionic) and thus could easily handle a night mode processing.
For me ( but I don’t how the software processes), night mode is a mix between long exposure & white & lights enhancement. These things Can be easily done by the SE but imo Apple locked this feature for marketing segmentation.... this is my point.

Battery life part is legit, I'm worried about the battery life for sure but if it's terrible I can just sell it for a small loss and get something else.

What I’ve learned from this whole 2020 SE thing is that Apple’s marketing team knows how to use their name and the “Apple mystique” well. They can sell.
Apple has a reputation of quality. I bought a cheaper android before with some cool features and it crapped out on me in 6 months. When I buy an Apple, i know its good for around 4 years of use.

Third-party camera apps like "Neuralcam" can be used for night mode on SE. Also this app allows all the cameras to have night mode while the stock cam only allows on the main rear camera.

agreed. these budget phones need to make battery life a priority. It's sad. even pixels have pretty shit battery life. I fell for the hype but ended up selling my pixel 3 xl. Google needs to put their muscle to work and offer something affordable with awesome battery life
It should have pretty good battery life given the low-res screen and more efficient processor (as long as you’re not playing games for hours). It’s not Pixel 4 bad by any means. Worse comes to worse you can probably buy the old Apple battery case.
Depends on your typical usage. I'm mainly using my phone to take calls, text, and shoot pictures. For that the Se will be fine.
I mean they were able to keep costs low because they didn't have to design anything new. It's literally an iPhone 8 chassis with a chip upgrade I think. So it has the same bad battery.

Here is a suggestion, I'm very late but whatever. If you are having difficulties with the batter life of the Iphone se, go to amazon and buy a case by ekrist for the iphone 8. It fits on the Iphone se and packs a 6000mah battery. You can get through two days no problem while playing heavy processor intensive games.
Plus it is very cheap only 30 bucks I'm sure many people who can buy a phone can buy this case that not only protects the phone but increases the battery life.
Because of dave's advice a few months ago, I'm waiting for the iphone 12

When you game with the charger connected but still lose battery because the trash 5W charger can't push enough juice to feed the A13.
NOT SO FUN FACT: the original iPhone came with a 5W charger more than 10 years ago

If Samsung or anyone supported the software for 5+ years would be nice. My mom still loves her S7, but soon it won't be getting updates, and phone's hardware still has many years left otherwise, so I've been thinking about having her try something like this Apple, though she might be annoyed by several of its limitations, such as ring/alarm volume are the same? Not to mention the poor low light photography.
The phone doesn't stop working if it doesn't get anymore updates ,I used my note 4 for 3 years and I also kept it on android 5.1 for all that time and it only slowed down when I filled up 96 GB of storage (32GB internal +64 microsd)

Yup! Decent phone with specs to be useable for 3+ years and a reputable name on the back. The single most offputting thing about $400 phones to most people is the brands selling them. And most budget Samsungs are underpowered compared to an 865, so wouldn't last so long.
@@armadillito I don't get the bezel less craze, like yeah it would be kind of cool to have but like it's not that big of a deal if u use it every day, it only feels weird if u switch from a bezel-less and then compare side by side, but like the basic stuff is way more important
S7 still has a better screen technically than S20, it may have the bezel but has a higher ppi than S20 Ultra, I would still by S7 over SE anyday. Apple is putting mean pricing on every other product, look at the apple wheels 699$ are you kidding me?, I could replace all my four car wheels for less than half. Apple is living off of the empire Steve Jobs had built, but from what I can see the clock is ticking and soon people will realize how apple is playing them like a puppet with the ecosystem, lightning port on SE should make it pretty evident on what they are actually trying to do

justMEduardo I came from one of the super high end iPhones to the new SE. Worth it. There’s no reason for a 1200 phone. It costs more than my damn MacBook Air lol
Upgraded from my Iphone 7 to the SE 2020. Worth it to me.
I liked this phone because it has that iconic physical home button.
Summary: low entry barrier to the apple ecosystem with the basic daily functional needs all met.
And a better UI :)

Chillhoof not me. This is my flagship phone. It’s the only phone from Apple I would consider. I’ll never buy an Apple Watch because I won’t wear a watch and I’ll never buy AirPods because they are a rip off.
Battery life is a daily functional need,a good display is functional need. A bit more innovation would have made this phone a bang for the buck at 400$

G. Marius 3 concerns not problem u dumy dum dum😂 u better know that the SE is one hell of a camera for its price. The screen is really fine for an average user no big deal. The battery well it might not be as great but remember the phone despite its metal and glass body is thin and light weight.
Amal Joe if it is not cheap, neither for an android phone is. Name a phone that can compete with this one in terms of reliability, raw performance, video recording quality not to mention the picture quality, even the design and the build quality. Look I came from a pixel 3a to this phone and I can argue that even the upcoming 4a can’t compete against this SE.

The benefits I see with the iPhone SE: 1. Updates for many years to come. 2. Price (even though it's more expensive here). 3. A quite good camera. 4. Excellent performance. 5. It's small (at least compared to todays phones, still large compared to my original SE).
