Hiya, it's usually called corrective joints, driven by other base joints to make better shape. I used matrix nodes to set the movements. But it doesn't have to be matrix nodes if you are able to set the movements you want in other way.
I'm going to use this as my "perfect rig reference" for any rig I make going forward. the Features showcased in your stuff is what I should try to incorporate. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

Based on exploration, I haven't seen a better skin correction than yours before, they are more about using blendshape.

맥스에서는 wire Parameters 를 사용하거나, 컨트롤러에 Expression을 붙여서 원하는 움직임을 구현하는 방식입니다.
