Just a short but heartfelt explanation for my recent Montenegro and Croatia videos. RUclipsrs are just common people making videos. We try, we sometimes fail. But it’s in what you do with those mistakes that ultimately matter. I let a few bad apples and a tired soul ruin a few days of my life and it affected my videos. No one is perfect, especially me. But I’m trying to learn when I mess up. I also acknowledge that the original title and thumbnail of one of those videos was pretty harsh. Basically clickbait. Which sadly is the norm for getting RUclips to recommend videos and thus grow a channel. My girlfriend actually called me out on this one, and she was absolutely right. Getting views at the expense of that level of sensationalism is not what I stand for. Be it my inability to wrap my tongue around certain words and place names, or my use of phrases that mean something to me but not to the world at large … I am always trying to do better. That’s actually “The RUclips Way”. Constant improvement in videos makes a channel grow … and I’m also trying to up my constant improvement in my own life as well. Many folks have complained that I was an Ugly American in those videos. And perhaps I was. But I’m actually living abroad these days BECAUSE I want to distance myself from the stereotypical image of an American. Especially an American in an election year. But sadly, decades of one-sided experiences are a large hurdle to overcome sometimes. But I am trying and I am learning. Thank you all for your comments and for holding me accountable. Even us amateur creators need our checks and balances. And as I find myself in yet another new country … Albania this time … I am applying the lessons of the past couple of weeks here. --- As you might have noticed, I found two completely different cities only a short ferry ride apart. But there was one thing that remained the same in Croatia … the people. Oh my god, the incredible people. Regardless of location, the wonderful people of Croatia made it all so worthwhile. I gotta say, I have been to Croatia and Ive been to the USA, I ravelled both countries, I have to be honest and say, Croatia wins in every way, I didnt go budget, I stayed in nice places in both countries. I never saw a single homeless person or tent city in Croatia, in the USA I was gob smacked and in shock, poverty and homeless people in every city, filthy streets and very un safe. Croatia was clean and extremely safe one of the top 5 safest countries in the world. Croatia was just stunning, inland and along the coast, so much history. Come and see hostels here in Australia, you wouldnt stay a night
Im a American, I've been to Croatia at least 30 times, mostly Dubrovnik area. Love the country, it's people. Hostels are for kids, that trash everything. Last place I would stay.
I was born and live in Croatia, I work in tourism and I have never seen such a bad hostel. I honestly doubt even now that it exists, or you are a "master" at finding the worst of the worst. By all laws this should be closed...
That's not a hostel but accommodation for Asian workers we have all over Croatia, and this doesn't seem completed to greet them. Someone with no dignity or love for his country decided it's was a good idea to rent it to tourists. Damn moron!
Maybe you should spend little bit more money for sleeping. Those hostiles not even refugee using not even foreign workers. But as you said you bought cheep air tickets looking for cheep stay. Next time better stay home.
Do me a favor. Go back home, save some money for accommodation, clean your glasses, open your mind for adventure, and get prepared for the cultural and architectural differences......See you later in a beautiful Croatian coastal line. It is a journey, not a competition for the biggest traveling moaner in the world.😉
That's not a hostel but a typical free accommodation for Nepalese and Indian workers. I'm shocked how he ended up there and what a human garbage decided is alright to invite them in.
Nikki was saying the same thing. There were quite a number of folks from Africa that seemed to be basically living there full-time. Nice folks, but we felt sorry for them. We thought it was some kind of immigration transition arrangement and that they were being taken somewhat advantage of. Thanks for pointing this out.
There is no "communist architecture" in the field of architecture. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ What is often referred to as communist architecture is actually modernism. Modernism exists everywhere. The United States has many examples of modernism. Here are a few excellent ones: - Boston City Hall in Boston - The Whitney Museum of American Art (original building) in New York - The Salk Institute in La Jolla, California - The Seagram Building in New York City - The Eames House in Los Angeles, California So, modernism has nothing to do with communism.
Yes, he was bragging about communist architecture in the heart of Dubrovnik where actually a lot of effort has been made to preserve historical architecture, including building from stones, how windows look like, colors, etc etc.
Croatia is beautiful country and have great coast. But it become to expensive not only to local tourists but foreigners to. I leave near Zagreb and while coast is not that far, 2-3 hours by car it is expensive as hell. Prices goes 100% up since euro came. Now Rick, one thing you should know, do not go to low end hostels, go to proper hotel, there is lot of frauds with hostels, apartments... so rather save yourself trouble and go to proper hotel, or if you have camper, bring a camper (ok thats a joke, nobody in their bright minds would bring camper from US to Europe, or would they, well with Americans you can expect everything). I wont say that there is no hostel that is what it is advertised, sure there are but there are lot that are not. People outside will book but will be unpleasently surprised. Proper apartments, hotels may be a little bit more expensive, but it worth it.
You are a very lucky man, you came to Croatia, sat in the first pub in Split, and the cuisine was Serbian. :) If you wanted to meet people in Dalmatia, you missed the time, now is the tourist season, time to take money. Come next time, let's say for the new year, Split will be much more beautiful, and the people will be normal and pleasant.
