It's sad that when I picture Kyiv all I can see is San Salvacion from AC4. I know Yuktobania is supposed to be Russia in strange-real, but the parallels to Erusea and the continental war are just uncanny. I just hope there is an ISAF for their future. If any Ukrainians in their air force read this, give one of your drones a ribbon insignia, hopefully it'll bring good luck.
Oh yeah, that one mission where I couldn't see anything because my tv's brightness settings were last adjusted to cope with Shadow of the Colossus and had to rely on the HUD to keep me from hitting the ground. An inadvertent vision of what it's like to be a pilot in abysmal visibility conditions.
I remember this one comment on a video going through this mission, and while I don't remember which video it was, I do remember the person who made the comment saying that the real Ace of Aces difficulty was playing this mission without turning up the brightness on your TV... or something like that.
@@michaelbreckshot6589 Agreed. The OST is this dream-like, soothing, elegant piece of music on top of a cataclysmic clot of chaos that is cloaked in a deep, piercing darkness. Altogether, it is sheer greatness.
The music does not reflect how insane this mission is. Now, I'm sure it's not normally so hard, but anything night related is so damn dark on my PS2 I can't see anything. I spent half the mission crashing into pitch black skyscrapers.
This level made me wonder what the people of San Salvacia, probably spelled that wrong, were witnessing as tanks, troops, choppers, and fighter jets passed by their houses and shops. The chaos and destruction during the battle between these two armies and the resistance helping ISAF. This has got to be one of my favorite missions just from this thought.
It is also the name of one of the neutral nations of USEA and capital of the neutral nations that were acting as a buffer zone between Erusea and ISAF territories before the war broke out...

Like an overture for a ballet of angels, dancing gracefully over a moonlit dusk. Sometimes, the slow and gentle music holds so much more soul than the speedy and intense.
Didn't think of it in that way. Like a slow ballet of angels dancing gracefully while uncertainty, worry and destruction are taking place just below. Nice picture dude.
"Three Strikes is on my tail!" "Another kill for Trigger," Long Caster reports even as he monitors the half dozen other things happening to his assigned squadrons, "Count, careful, that area might hav-" "Oh crap! SAMS!" Count interrupts. "Yeah," Long Caster covers his face, "SAMs." Once more, San Salvacion was the scene of combat. Having been conquered for the second time in fewer decades by Erusian forces. Now once more to be liberated the same. Trigger rolled under a hail of AA and fired back with his own gun. The Erusian AA vehicle erupted into flames. Another pair, though, threw up fire where Trigger had to pull up. Had to pull up if he was any regular pilot who lacked an idea of the streets. Instead, Trigger knew the area. And with his skill, he threaded his F-15 Eagle between buildings, taking open roads and back alleys just barely big enough to squeeze his wings into while flying on his bird on its side. As such, he popped up away from the Erusian fire and ambushed three fixed SAM Launchers in the process and decimated the central radar that controlled the main hub for them and another five SAMs. "Damn Three Strikes!" a Erusian officer shouted. Having shaken off his missile threats, Count downed a pair of Erusian Anti-Tank Helicopters. He then defeated an Erusian fighter. Count was able to get a good enough glance to see that he had also downed a multi-Ace. The guy had least 20 something kills to his reputation. Not anymore as he parachuted right down into the heart of Osea's Iron Horse Cavalry as they advanced up the same route the ISAF had taken years before. "These guys fly their Typhoons good," Count commented, "Most Erusians prefer Yuktobanian, but these guys appear to favor their own domestic aircraft." Usean Typhoon was one of the better fighters the continent had produced. Originally as part of a collaborative effort to check both Osea and Yuktobania developments. But as the members drifted apart and Osea was welcomed in eventually for greater trade and technology transfers, the Typhoon was soon looked on by some with scorn. "They still have their pride," Wiseman flew up alongside Count as things in their area calmed a little, "Truth be told, the Typhoon had many in command scared back in the day. It's a good plane. I heard the Razgriz flew a couple during the last war and there was a squadron of the early birds flown by an elite Belkan squadron back in '95. It ran circles around our F-15As back then, until our pilots figured out how to neutralize its advantages." Puffs of flak end further conversation as both pilots dive back into the fray. But it's also clear. The battle is nearly over. With the loss of an Arsenal Bird, reduction of their Drone Network, and the general outflanking provided by the Carrier OFS Vulture, the Osean-led international coalition was gaining ground. San Salvacion would be liberated before long.
