Thankyou very much for your racing professional input. You helped me out as I have2 and love them I am excited about putting your tune in my wind lite. I have had mine since Christmas, awesome, My frame has held up for nearly 6 months. TOUGH AS. Dozens of crashes. No signs of fatigue. Keep ripping and I will let u know how I go.
If you're a beginner and get this quad - my biggest suggestion is that throttle limiting is your friend - not because you want less speed, but more throttle resolution is ALWAYS helpful, and the innate performance on this thing is so good that an 80% cap is probably still too high.
Loving the race content! keep it up fella!. I've bought one of these wind 5 lites but how would you secure the Capacitor as the flight controller is mounted on rubber mounts??
Use dual lock, it helps with the battery ejections. Should also double strap, but of course that is more difficult when you have to strap under the vtx. RJX Hobby make 16mm kevlar straps you may want to look into.
@@DroneRacingAcademy Ummagrip and dual straps are pretty much always golden - but if the frame isn't having it, the crossed 16mm ones aren't as ideal as a single kevlar one - the Lumenier/Gemfan/Pyro ones (common OEM) that are way thicker are the most durable I've found, then the Tiny's/Project399 are the next best (but thinner, lighter, and easier)
Second flight on mine , armed motors and poof of smoke goes one motor. new motor on the way to replace. Of course i have to have bad luck when i have to many quads.
At some point can you do a tips video on race etiquette? Like how to piss everyone off at the track. Interesting to see the changes in the tune for throttle and rates really
HGLRC recommended to watch this after I said there pids weren’t the best , I got the 6s 1900kv version though, would your pids still suit my wind 5 , other wise great review just subscribed cheers 🍺
Hey 432! Welcome to the channel, I agree that the stock pids weren't the best, took a bit of tweaking and it's so much better now. I'll keep evolving the pids and keep them updated here. I'm running 2207.5 1900kv as well, so it should work for you. Give it a try and use that as a starting point. If u have any questions let me know I can help =)
Thanks for the reply , will definitely try your pids out and let you know how it goes, and if you come up with a fixed mount for 19mm camera could u post a link so I can get thingverse or someone to print me one, thanks again Finn.
Should be able to get spicier on that tune - gyro filter slider to 2.0, D_Term slider to 1.4. PD Balance at 1.2 and P&D Gains 1.1 with FF slider around 1.5 goes a fairly long way. vbat_sag_compensation is also baller on all of these. That thing already rips, so I'm lifting a tune from the most similar setup I have.
Oh totally. I'm still slowly bumping it up, just to make sure the quad can handle it, also I don't want to give too aggressive a tune off the bat for a copy paste in case they're using other props or a different transmitter =)
Great review. Till recently the only bnf I would recommend is the old Hawk 5 from emax, not the new one they have but the 2018 model. Love love love tht quad and it will definitely get you to the podium. I still race with mine. Only down side is that it is 4s and the stock motors are 2206 2300kv but don’t let it fool you. I was th first bnf to hit over 100mph. Super super strong frame and has been super solid for me. Still have yet to burn the stack or kill a motor. Yep still have the stock motors on mine and not a single crunchy bearing. Of course these days I build my own and my main racers are all flightone FalcoX arc one builds with 2207.5 1922 and 1722kv motors(depends on track what motor I fly). But that all said hglrc makes some good ones and this rig looks like a keeper. Just zip tie that xt60 to the rear brace or the standoffs and will be good to go
Thanks Archer! The hawk 5 is indeed a good candidate, however the camera and stack on this is superior in my opinion, I also prefer a standard standoff design so I can swap for a fixed camera mount, I'm very picky about camera mounts because a few degrees drastically changes flight characteristics (spoiler alert : video coming soon on this topic =).). How are you liking falcox? I tried it half a year ago and it was pretty good, though I didn't like that you can't do a diff dump, makes maintaining a fleet much more work when it comes to software settings.
@@DroneRacingAcademy definitely. The predator v5 is a huge upgrade over the foxeer arrow pro micro. I run a pred v2 in my hawk. The vtx is less than lack luster but it works just no changing channels in osd on the older hawk. But like I said till really this past summer I would’ve told ya to build one or just get the hawk to start out with. Now I say get what ever bnf you want. Their all pretty good given the right tune and a frame well under 100g. Motors tho are different. The hglrc motors are kinda that not talked about goodie. I’ve ran their micro motors for years and love em. The 1104 8000kv motors I have on an old 2” build still run perfect and smooth and they are at least 2 years old now and dozens and dozens of packs thru them. 👍
@@DroneRacingAcademy love falcoX. It’s all I run now on all my builds, toothpicks included. There’s ways to work around the diff on falco but can be a pain. Tho I literally have 7 builds 4 race and 3 freestyle I wound up using the exact same setup on them. All with the deekon race tune and my rates. My freestyle rigs liked that tune even more than my racers. Tho for my racers I did add 10 to All P’s and upped the pitch and roll I by 5 and haven’t changed em since. Not even sure what version of falco it is but it’s not the newest i know that. It’s at least a year old now. Lol.
@@DroneRacingAcademy Oh yeah my my flightone dolphin1 build is still running old school FlightOne 🤣. Couldn’t get falco flying right on it but man is it smooth with my tune. Still needs a tiny bit of work but not much. My latest thanksgiving vid is on the 🐬👍
Hi there, first. Merry Christmas 🎄. I love the review thx. But tell me something, I was entering the settings by hand because I never used 4.2. Is it possible some of the settings in the dump can only be entered through the cli ? Thx and peace ✌️
Merry Christmas! Glad you liked it. =) so the easiest way to use the settings. Is to set your settings to defaults. Then go to cli and copy and paste the entire thing in there. (you can copy in one shot, not line by line). After that you can go to setup your receiver, modes etc in the betaflight configurator as per normal. Let me know if that makes sense. I can create a quick video to show you how to do that if you can't figure it out
Almost hit the button order until I've noticed it uses silicone grommets to be inserted in the bottom plate for aka anti-vibration dampening. Which as result has more impact on vibrations that improvements. There few frames on the market that tried this method and it didn't work. I don't know why HGLRC is few steps behind that. Another sad part is that there is no room for the strap in between the two bottom plates. The idea of arms interconnect is good and on the same time overkill. Arms are hold by 2 screws each + the brace. Overall... the frame looks cool, but it needs re-work.
Hey Alexandru, agreed on the strap between bottom plates, that was an area of improvement I thought of as well, I will say that the interconnected arms are very solid and I havent managed to damage the frame yet despite many high speed crashes, but id still like to see strap between bottom plates for future revisions. As for the silicone grommets in bottom plate, what do you mean by that? It uses silicone grommets for the stack for vibration dampening which I think is pretty standard industry practice at the moment and works pretty well, could you elaborate a little on this one? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hey Angel it is tuned very conservatively out of the box, good for beginners probably but I didn't like it. Stock tune on betaflight 4.2 flew well, but I made some changes to make it even better =)
Thankyou very much for your racing professional input.

Zip ties on mine + also trim capacitor wires down a bit.
