  • Why Didn't Dutch take Advantage of Sadie Adler in Red Dead Redemption 2? With Sadie's family and house were taken she was the prime candidate for Dutch Van Der Linde and Micah Bell's new form of Outlaw Lifestyle. Why didn't Dutch bring her down to his level?

      I think Sadie is a well written, flawed character. She lost everything she ever cared about and has the right to be the vengeful, ticking time bomb she is. I know a lot of people think she's to aggressive or too wild, but that's why I like her/a well written reaction.
      She even says it herself. "They turned me into a monster."

      Sadie never fell into Dutch’s Charm. Because of that, Dutch didn’t trust her to get the Blackwater Money, much less when Micah was starting to get in Dutch’s ear. Sadie was the only capable gang member to get the money that the Pinkertons didn’t knew about until chapter six.

    Dutch could've used Sadie to get the Blackwater money with Trelawney.
    If Dutch really wanted the money from Blackwater, he would've sent Sadie and Trelawney to collect. Trelawney has diarrhea of the mouth and can distract everyone while Sadie collected the money or Sadie causes the distraction and Trelawney is the one who silently sweeps in and collects the money. They could've made it out like bandits as soon as they got Jack or even before trying to play the families and wouldn't even have to make enemies with Bronte or the families and they all could've disappeared before the Pinkertons or O'Driscolls found them.
    But because Dutch is Dutch, he couldn't allow a smooth operation to bring in the money that could save everyone by two outsiders. No, he needed "one last take" to make himself superior to his enemies and feel like the big man. It was never about Tahiti or getting out and getting lost in the west. It was always about Dutch's ego and to be seen as the big savior to his family and the big bad outlaw. They could've easily gotten the money and gotten lost out west like planned or fled to Tahiti or wherever. But Dutch had no plan to get out safely, he needed as much bloodshed and noise because his ego would not allow them to flee quietly into the night.

      Maybe he's also the paranoiac he is, and he doesn't trust Sadie and Trelawny (particularly not Trelawny) enough with such an amount of money on their own. Of course you're right about Dutch's motives, but I don't really think sending Sadie would have been an option. Besides, her and Trelawny barely knew each other.

    • @agentmoron747

      You’re an idiot if you think that Dutch would trust anyone with that amount of money. I know this sounds crazy but truth be told Trelawny was the snitch this entire time. Just pay attention to a lot of his dialogue in your next play through and also pay attention to how he always has some kind inside information about important things throughout the game. And if you notice he always seems to show up and disappear right before the Pinkerton agents come

Dutch and Arthur it was decent till the trolley mission the one after that riding to the swamp country pursuits the mission was I think Dutch’s tone faith and all that I just thought. “Fuck this guy”. More respect for John really he saw right through it and did right even with a doubt in his mind about who jacks dad is. Seeing him standing upto Micah in chapter 6 over Jack it’s beautiful. My dad got locked up and more or less abandoned us when we was 6. Got a half brother year old it’s. Well it’s nice to see

    I think it’s more because Dutch didn’t take her seriously. When she bought new clothes to wear pants, Dutch and the rest of the camp commented on how weird it is and I remember Dutch laughing it off. He never really saw her on an equal level. Arthur was the one who took her seriously and trusted her plans enough break John out. By the end, she was loyal to Arthur rather than Dutch when people began to see her potential.

    I think the thing with Sadie is that her anger is mostly with the O’Driscolls and anybody who reminds her of them, threatens her or her way of life or her loved ones, etc. I believe she also sees what she and her husband had in John and his family, and wants to protect them from the kind of loss she experienced, and that’s why she so easily sided with Arthur and John.

    Aside from Sadie's unstable nature, I think the reason Dutch never made a move on her is because he wants absolute loyalty, and she could never give him that. Sadie is with the gang because they take her in and because she wants to avenge her husband's death. She isn't there for Dutch or his dream of a free Outlaw Paradise. Her heart will always belong to her husband Jake and the only man in the gang she sincerely comes to care for is Arthur.
    Outside of forcing himself on her (which would then make Dutch and anyone protecting him a target) he never had a chance.
    To put it another way, she's still deeply in love with her deceased husband and isn't interested in a self styled Outlaw false God cult/gang leader who damn near gets everyone killed.

      Very nicely said! You could actually see her...development most in the scenes with arthur. From hateful...to thinking about gutting him in the night...to just tolerating him and somewhere than to actually respecting him. And it came with Arthurs development into "a good man". And Arthur never making a go at her for her female charms made her look through her zeal for vengeance seeing Arthur like he could be. Dutch on the other hand is everything a woman like Sadie disrespects, like you said. She early on saw that Dutch, as smooth as he plays, to be hellbent on his path to self-destruction, while Arthur broke free of his evil mold.

      Sadie even begged for Dutch to take her along to a robbery and you can tell he's super hesitant on it. If he wants to test the waters with loyalty, he'd string Sadie along. But alas, she's too unstable for a leader that's already unstable himself. Sadie still cares for the gang anyway.

    Dutch didnt use sadie because unlike the others she had no loyalty for dutch or his ideals she was grateful to him but nothing more. She wasnt working for him she had her own motivations and dutch doesnt know how to use that like he knows how to use loyalty and the admiration he can inspire to push people into action. In short he couldnt fully control her so he kept her on a short leash. He only let her help with colm because dutch wanted to make sure no matter what went down colm would be killed sadie would see to that.

    Like that other guy said, Dutch wanted absolute loyalty, and the only person Sadie had that for after Jake was Abigail. She was certainly loyal to Arthur, but she was willing to risk his life for some O’Driscoll payback. And so what use is she to Dutch, someone she is only mildly loyal to? A trigger happy gun with a mind of her own, and no intention of being used by anyone again. Give her a wide berth until you can use her once like a bomb?
    It’s also funny to think maybe Dutch was a little offended she wasn’t licking his boot or cowing in fear like uhh…maybe some of the others. No offense to these fictional gang members. On the bench, fishwife!

  • @justinehornberger3715
    @justinehornberger3715 6 месяцев назад +4

    I think Dutch recognized early on that Sadie is motivated by forces too powerful for him to channel and manipulate. Colm's hanging is appropriately the only one he puts her up front-and-center for, since in that case her anger was focused onto one individual that she perceived as the root of her misery. Even then, she couldn't let a single O'Driscoll go, even in public and at the potential detriment of her own gang.
    She's a lot of fun to witness as a character... but if this was real life, the best thing to do is be her friend and keep her away from vengeance. She's reckless to the point of suicidality, and if Dutch were to try to use her at that time, his immorality would be exposed by this widow that has no loyalties to him beyond his initial kindness. She would have no problem killing him and wiping out the rest of the camp if they tried to stop her, and if anything, perhaps she would hope for an unsuccessful mission.

    I think you missed a relatively important thing about Dutch's personality that has potential to be the deciding factor in how he treated and viewed Sadie... He's a genuine misogynist. You can see from his reaction to Molly's outburst as one of complete shock but I don't think it was purely shock at the betrayal, he was surprised that a woman, let alone a woman that BELONGED to him, could have so much power over his future. He first saw Sadie as a broken little girl and I don't think that opinion changed because he didn't give her any consideration, he'd already written her off as a pawn, same as everyone else in his gang. On the subject of Dutch seeing the gang as pawns, the chess moves he talks to himself about are part of an opening called the "Dutch defense", its considered an unbalanced and aggressive opening and it's one that freely sacrifices the pawns to save the king...

    me personally, I see it as a plot hole because sadie adler was very clearly a character designed towards the end of development, due to her lack of existence in many missions and her not being acknowledged at all in moments where I feel like she totally would be, had she been a proper character in the story.
    it makes zero sense when both arthur and sadie save john from the penitentiary against dutch's orders, but only arthur gets reprimanded for it while sadie just...stands there and be useless. the only logical explanation is that they obviously designed her character at the end and just sprinkled in where she would appear, how she appears and how long, etc.
    given her traits, characteristics and what she wants, it also makes little sense why she would help arthur and friends. I know people will always mention the soft spot thing towards arthur, but can you tell me why that fixes the problem I mentioned? it doesn't, at least I don't think it should. by chapter three, she goes full psychopath mode, killing everything in her way, doesn't care that she may be killing or robbing others, she seems to enjoy it. only other people in the gang who enjoys doing those things are dutch when he becomes crazy and micah.
    she doesn't really want much of anything besides revenge and money, revenge being a stupid thing to seek as given by the message of the game, but oh wait she can just defy it and get revenge anyways and everybody lives happily ever after. and she only cares about money after killing the one fat guy who may have killed her husband, may have because I am not sure we got definite confirmation of it.
    hmm~, what were we talking about again? oh right, given the similarities between sadie, crazy dutch and micah, it surprises me that she isn't part of them. they want more or less the same thing, that being money. all three are perfectly fine and may even be enjoying the fact that they go on huge murder sprees and doing bad things for the sake of being bad. they all don't seem to really care about their lives, just their survival, and wouldn't mind dying too much should it come around.
    I have *some* reasons why they may have ultimately decided against putting sadie adler on team evil, but just the mere mention of them may start a war so no thank you~

Personally she's...honestly one of my least favorite characters in any game I've ever played...she feels like she actively contradicts the story's themes and messages, and every time she's involved in a mission, I can only sigh knowing _hordes_ of people are going to die for absolutely nothing but one hothead's uncontrollable vendetta. She's a burden more often than an ally

      Nah everybody i've talked to about this game praises her. She's a strong female character done right. Uses her brain more than her muscles to get advantage of the situation and shows weakness. She also has a lot of flaws in her character (not like, poorly written flaws but flaws as a person) which makes her very interesting and not like those power fantasy farts the entertainment industry puts out a lot these days. She's the reason why i'm not afraid of gta 6 having a female lead cause rockstar has shown that they're able to make good strong female characters.

    I wouldn't think that Dutch used Sadie in the mission where Colm is hanged. I'd say that she essentially injected herself into the situation and Dutch went along with it, exactly because he knows that her life was destroyed by Colm and there's no going against her. I also think Dutch wouldn't dare use her, because he has seen that she can't be controlled.

  • @LuizGontijo10
    @LuizGontijo10 8 месяцев назад +15

    A well-rounded character should have strengths and weaknesses, both psychologically and emotionally and she has both, but while Sadie's transformation into a formidable force is intriguing, some moments in her story arc are kind of outta pocket. I mean c'mon she's a badass i know but sometimes it's like, really? An average-sized woman killing three armed men twice her weight with just a knife? Hanging from a hot air balloon by just a rope with dozens of O'Driscolls shooting at her and not hitting her once? like, not even a glancing shot? that's just pure insanity.
    I kinda liked Sadie by the end, but up until then, and even then in some instances, she's just too trigger-happy and bloodthirsty, and this nature of hers in many occasions overshadows her likeable traits. That, plus the talent she has for getting into unnecessary trouble.
    She's probably the most unrealistic character in RDR 2, and that's saying a lot since Arthur himself is a one-man army, but at least in his case, the stuff he does caught up to him in the end (and then again, he's the protagonist). As for Sadie, she's probably living fine in South America by the time John's getting shot like a dog lol.
    She's the good old overpowered "Strong female character", but at least in her case, she has a likable personality and demeanor towards those she considers friends unlike people like abby from the last of us II for example.
    The only thing that really annoys me is her condescendence towards Arthur's skills and capabilities towards the end. I mean, he might be sick, but he is still the best gunner in the gang and has 20 years of experience behind him. A confrontation between her and Arthur would be extremely one-sided even while he was sick but she still insists in the idea that her taking point is the best course of action, and ends up gets proven wrong pretty quick, which to be honest felt kind of empty. She doesn't even aknowledge her mistake so it felt like that whole sequence was for nothing.
    Her character is good and the emotional rollercoaster and vengeance journey is on point. It adds some fundament to her character, and even though she's a bit over the top, you can't help but root for her to get her revenge and if only the writers had not not made her such a steriotypical "strong female character" on a surface level maybe more people would have seen that.

    • @factuallysomename
      @factuallysomename 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, I agree there it doesn't make any sense that she would be capable of killing people so recklessly without getting immediately shot by one of those three armed men, we all know she's the strong female character but some people want to deny how Mary-Sue like her character is, despite that she's still very intriguing.
      I will say that her 'Condescendance' Is more of an attempt to be a good friend, because she knows he's sick. He has Tuberculosis Which is a VERY strong disease, and by the end he's already weak enough to get killed by fat ol' Micah Bell. That's just being a good friend and looking out for someone you care about.
      Here is another thing that you should be more annoyed about;The fact that she, so easily was capable of handling herself with a gun..And there was no acknowledgement of her having any training in the story whatsoever. It wasn't even implied, I think that's what made my brain go 'Yeah, I think that's more of a Mary-Sue character than just the strong female secondary protagonist'
      For that last part I see nothing wrong with the critique. If they made her more of an adapting female character with traits of weakness (Physically.) And less of the strength, where you have to save her sometimes but other times she'll save you. It'd feel MUCH more balanced and it would make it far more realistic.
      All though, I do want to touch on something;Arthur is most definitely more unrealistic than Sadie, because- Well, Sadie is strong..Yet she's not consistently capable of taking on professional gunslingers, and entire armies by herself. She can take on a few armed men, or even multiple. But Arthur's done many many impossible things that she could never do even with how unrealistic she is.

      @@factuallysomename i agree with your point about Arthur, but it's just as i said, he's the protagonist so the developers have to give some liberty to the player, if it was a movie i think Arthur would do far less in terms of "action hero type stuff" and also, most of what he did eventually came back to bite him in the ass by the end.
      Beyond that, i just think she should acknowledge Arthur would have a far better time handling those pinkertons than her in spite of his sickness. it's not like her better health is going to save her from a bullet. And even though he was weak enough Micah could compete with him, despite being a rat we have to acknowledge how dangerous Micah actually is. He's definitely the second or close third best gunslinger/shooter in the gang seeing how even john was overwhelmed by his rapid gunfire in the end of the epilogue.

And yeah- He would have a better time but that was a more kind gesture which Sadie tried to make. Despite her not acknowledging his overall strength being above hers I still think it was just an act of kindness.

    This is a long reply, sorry. (If you don't want to read it, just don't. Don't say "I ain't reading all that". 😂)
    Dutch actually commented about Sadie in Shady Belle. "A few more of her and we can take over the world. *Chuckles" . Arthur replied "a few more like her and it'll be the end of the world".
    Imo, Dutch just never wanted her involved right away because she was still a woman. The women stayed behind in camp. I think Dutch outside of us knowing, put Sadie in charge to watch the camp. Only until Sadie started taking charge when Dutch and the others were gone on an island, Dutch realized how important she can be. But we never see him care enough to talk to her personally about anything because he just does other things. Arthur is the one that checks up on Sadie since we are the players, it gives us more insight.
    As for Micah, I'm surprised there wasn't any conversation of her yelling at Micah for burning down her house. It was really Micah's fault that her home was destroyed. She was definitely scared of Micah when he found her, but that was because she was abused by O'Driscolls and didn't know who to trust, especially since Micah was already acting like he wanted to do something. But Dutch and Arthur tells Micah that Sadie has that look in her that she is wild. I think they just never interacted because the writer couldn't figure out. But we can guess that they just didn't care enough to talk longer than a few seconds. Some characters just stick away from each other and they were that.
