  • Yes, this is difficult to practice if you're not used to practicing it, but the good news is it's possible to practice - and you already know that it's not enough to say you "know" this already, because it is only when you do this that you will master it... And if you follow this channel at all, then I'm confident that you also know that you will master whatever you practice....
    Sending everyone who sees this, and everyone who doesn't, much peace.

      💯 brother. I’m grateful to hear that. That darkness can be so tough to experience, for sure, so be mindful to be easy on yourself if it ever creeps back up. Definitely sending you much peace always. 🙏🏼

    I can use this.
    It also occurred to me that when someone uses always/never statements with me (I have a family member who does) I can reframe them:
    _"You never listen to me!"_
    "I'm getting that you don't feel heard by me right now. What can we do to fix that?"

    • @DrChristianConte
      @DrChristianConte  2 года назад +1

      Yes! That's it exactly. And keep brainstorming different ways to say it, and remember: the tone of the way you say it definitely matters. Leading with humility, compassion and genuine curiosity (ie., Yield Theory) can help tremendously. Definitely sending you all my best and tons of peace!

    Love your videos Dr. Conte.
    You offer much valuable insight and so many practical suggestions for dealing with mental and emotional issues.
    I hope you don’t mind if I point something out, in the spirit of using accurate language, as you wisely spoke about.
    When you do something “continuously”, you are doing it non-stop, without interruption.
    So doing push-ups or meditating continuously actually sounds pretty extreme.
    Doing these activities “continually” or “regularly” would be a more accurate way of describing how to obtain their desired results.
    Hope that didn’t sound like nitpicking from a know-it-all.
    I just thought it fit in well with your video‘s message.
    Thanks for all of the wonderful work that you do. 👍

    Easy to say, not easy to do.
    Like breathing, in the heat of the moment, you can be totally unaware.
    Thankfully, I have these helpful videos for repeated views and mental health top ups!

    Hi Dr. Conte,
    I'm really enjoying your videos. I'm a paramedic and working on my MS of Psychology currently, and am wondering what career advice you would have for someone interested in what you do? Looking at options, and I find your perspective really straightforward and useful, and it's one I would like to incorporate in the future. What career path did you take and how would you reccommend to someone?

    I find I have an issue with stopping the rush to anger. I totally skip over evaluating my own pain and go straight to anger - it’s a skip to the limbic (I study this but I still have major issues). I only do this with my partner. Sometimes I catch myself but sometimes I don’t. I’m significant damage to my relationship. Do you have any suggestions to exercise that moment?

    • @DrChristianConte
      @DrChristianConte  2 года назад +3

      Great question. One of the most straightforward, but powerful exercises we can do is practice saying, "It's not the end of the world" over and over again. The more you practice saying that, the more quickly you'll be able to infuse it into your self-talk when anger arises. Not only is that phrase accurate, but it also signals to your limbic system that you're not in danger, and it gives your brain a chance to step back and evaluate the situation from a wider perspective (and quite literally, allows your frontal cortex to take the helm instead of the limbic system). I talk about the types of rage in my video Getting Control of Yourself, and that is offered through psychotherapy dot net or through Amazon. I recommend it, though, because it can give you insight into the type of anger you are experiencing, including the antidote to each different kind. I hope this helps. Definitely sending you all my best and tons of peace!
