My personal theory about this - Ai can mean the color indigo in Japanese. Which is a mixture of cyan and magenta in CMYK printing, coinciding with Aqua and Ruby’s colors respectively.
Something really interesting that happens with aqua and ruby I'd that when there angry like really angry about something specially something about there and ai's past the star goes dark and spreads to both there eyes
( spoiler) I believe the star means their talent, skills and capabilities. Aqua and ruby got one star showing that they got their mother’s genes meaning they have the the capability of becoming stars just like their mother. Also later on Akane gets two stars on her eyes when acting like Ai meaning that her giving her 100% and acting similar to Ai triggered the stars to activate. Later on ( sorry for the spoilers ) Ruby gets to stars when she starts working really really hard to achieve her goals. So yea the stars mean their talent, skills, and hard work.
Spoiler. . . . . . . And later on there is another character who completely doesn't have any conncection to Hoshino's family but got star in her eyes. . . . . Before the dad cut short her life too, though 😂
I think it also means motivation/determination. Aqua's star darkened when he became truly motivated by the fact that his father deserves ultimate punishment. And at some point in the manga, Ruby's star also darkened and started to use her power as an idol to achieve her evil goals Dark stars = Bad Motivation/Intentions Light Stars = (Seemingly) Good Motivation/Intentions
Actually, it is definitely a reference to Japanese Gods (even Ruby refers herself as Amaterasu when she was a baby). In the Japanese tale, Izanagi washed his left eye in the river, he made Amaterasu (Ruby, god of sun, Left eye star) and when he washed his right eye, he made Tsukuyomi (Aquamarine, god of the moon, right eye star). Later, in life, they both Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu married each other (hinted like how Sarina wanted to marry doc when she got older)... I've seen an in-depth explanation in a Japanese video, but that's the gist of it.
@@Dough149I don't think so, because Jesus is Jesus nobody else is Jesus except for Jesus. There are three in one: the gospel, the holy Spirit, and Jesus.
@@neerajoshi5473 Oh my bad but either way, I thought she meant like she could see the stars in her eyes because it draws people in. I guess it's just symbolism
....I.....was always so sure everyone understood that the star shapes in their eyes were clearly for the reader/viewer only. It's a symbol of their secrets, their power, their furious passion, and the connection between parent and children. The first time I heard someone say "Well, they see their eyes, right? They have to know" and the such, I was bewildered. Real people whose pupils/irises had such a freakish shape would be famous around the world from birth. :/
Well people with bright red or purple eyes would be as well, so even the devil's advocate in me that considers the stars being diegetic does so on the assumption that other people in this universe might occasionally have other weird eye quirks, which are sometimes genetic and sometimes only manifest in one eye, so people don't bat an...well you know, as if it was just an uncommon birthmark. The fact that they CHANGE color with mood/tone and fully appeared on Akane after she didn't have any before was where I felt was too far for them to be something the other characters can see but don't notice, so I came to the same conclusion as you, I just don't think all anime abide by the same line of what eye or hair features are "obviously" unnatural or stylistic and which are "obviously" just normal. It's worth taking a moment to consider both and which possibility actually fits the individual story and world better.
you are right about that fierce passion part. they take inspiration from different sources but all those who have stars are people who really really want something.
Fun fact: Ai means “Love in Japanese” and it’s pronunciation Ai resembles the English word “Eye” So, it’s an important detail, about her whole character
The thing is, Ai's name doesn't mean love. It actually doesn't mean anything, since it's written in katakana. And I love that detail that sadly always gets overlooked by the community. To me, her name only sounding like the word for love in Japanese symbolizes her lies, how she says she loves everyone and how her fans blindly listen and believe her. It's only when you look closely, to how her smile look too calculated, to how her name is actually not what you thought it was that you see all her being is lying. Her name sounds like love, but it doesn't mean it. It's empty, devoided of any meaning. It's a lie.
I think Aqua and Ruby having only one star eye is also a symbol of them basically having 2 lives. Identity is in big part made up of our personal experiences. They both already lived a life, but that doesn't mean the new life and identity they have is fake because they did grow up being Aqua and Ruby, nor does that mean that they sometimes are one person and sometimes the other. They are basically two people at all times.
You got the intent on the stars being a cue for the audience, and not actually on their eyes. However, the white stars don't indicate "deceit." This theme/device is like a play on the concept of yin & yang. They turn dark when the character in question is leaning towards realism/pessimism/negativity. When they are white- they are in a neutral-positive state. When they are shining in their color/brightly, more so with the "galaxy eyes", the character is being their "true self"- they are the most "raw/honest" in that state. Like say, when Ai is on stage performing, her eyes shine the brightest, not because she is lying to her audience, but because she is living out her desire to try to love others by entertaining them- which is the only kind of "love" she has ever learned throughout her dysfunctional development. Yes, she may be "technically" lying to her audience, since it is all a performance- but that performance IS her most sincere form of giving love. It's all she's ever learned- but she DOES WANT to love others. That is why her eyes shone bright when the manager saw through her facade during her scouting interview. It's also why it was shining most furiously when she saw her babies dancing- and the online commenter rightly saw that that was Ai's most genuine smile to date. The shining star galaxy eyes are indicative of the character beaming with shining sincerity. And when they are black- it is a clouded realist façade. Edit: think, Haikyuu's Hinata vs Tsukishima
@No, that's wrong. ofc, beacuse what I said is a subjective interpretation of a plot device that is symbolic in nature, and not necessarily a claim on what it actually is within the oshinoko universe. It's sad I have to explicitly explain that it's just my opinion- that's the internet ofc. Discussing further than this would be spoilers- yes I have read the manga, and I still think my view on it fits.
@No, that's wrong. I'm not trying to be "correct". As I replied, "ofc" - meaning I agree with you saying I am not technically "correct" in terms of the explicit definition of the stars in the series. People can go ahead and read the manga for that. I merely shared an interpretation of the symbolism of the said plot device (to someone who is anime only). You are free to think in shounen anime terms and be anal about the details. I merely expressed that in my opinion, the symbolism fits, and that I stand by that opinion. I don't need to be correct for that.
@No, that's wrong. Plus, there's still debate to be had from a philosophical standpoint about the nature of the stars- even if you saw the "proof" from the manga about the stars, whether black or white. Say, even what Ai says about herself can conflict with what we have seen with Ruby or Aqua. So in that case- the stars could mean different things for different people- and there would be no one definition for all of them. Even if someone says "I am lying to you" you still have to make out whether they really are lying to you, or not. Or if someone says, "this is the true me" you still have to question whether they are really telling the truth- or if they even have a correct grasp of how they actually behave.
I just wonder if Ruby and Aqua actually share the fact, who they were in their previous life and that they knew each other very well. Hope the Manga gets a full adaptation !!! The show is sooo good
@@rugveddharankar5992 manga speculation (don’t read if you’re not caught up or you risk getting spoiled) i think they’ll find out near the end of the series. aqua is probably gonna destroy hikaru kamiki with the play and is going to end up destroying his own life in the process prolly why akane wants to stop him, but maybe then ruby gonna find out? idk but we’ll see i can’t wait i wish there was a light novel so i can read ahead and find out what’s going on, the suspense is killing me edit: I was kinda correct except it was ruby basically going to destroy her life by going through the path of revenge, but damn chapter 122 was so good wow
@@mememaster1655 yeah prolly that’s what would happen but can’t say for sure. And the suspense is fr killing me. I couldn’t wait to read manga after anime’s 5th episode(cuz that’s how many episodes were out when i started) and finished the manga same day.
@@rugveddharankar5992 DUDE SAME, it was the 6th episode for me because i started watching a few days back. spoiler below for anyone else reading holy shit they got us good with sarina’s mom pulling up in the studio. i wonder if ruby gon duck her up or play it cool but i wanna find out frfr
🎉NO SPOILER🎉 (I will only use events that are already animated as examples) I'm a manga reader, but for me I think that the stars in their eyes represents a goal that they desire. As you can see in the 1st episode, ai looked quite gloomy before she was an idol, but while being scouted by the ceo, as he said there are many forms of love, including lying, ai's eyes brighten up hoping to actually experience real love through this journey. And I think that's her goal, since while dying, she told ruby and aqua she loved them and it definately isn't a lie, and later the stars in her eyes disappeared and it would also align with the opening song's lyrics. The stars disappearing is'nt her soul leaving, but fullfilling her deepest desire. ( maybe after a few more episode or in another season you guys will know why I said this 😊😅❤)
SPOILER . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. ... Another example is aqua thinking that their father (his target for revenge) is dead, so he has no reason to do that revenge anymore. The stars in his eyes disappeared completely and started to even think what should he do now. Meaning aqua's sole goal is revenge. Although the stars in ruby's eyes never disappeared, when she saw dr. Goru's(?) body and came to the conclusion that ai and goru's killer were the same, the stars became black like aqua's, but in both of her eyes, maybe because she wants revenge for ai and goru. One for each. And also, unlike aqua's, ruby's star eyes after that never became white ever since.😢
I think each one only has one because theyre both splits of AI. Ruby has pinky red, aqua has blue, add those together you get purple- Ai's eye color. Add their stars together you get 2 stars. I think its like that.
That's what I thought originally too, but it gets complicated later on since... (spoiler) ...both Ruby and Aqua end up with 2 stars later on, both black, so it makes you wonder how they got the extra star.
@@abckidscroblox i had multiple theories, but after reading what you said, two remain: - they're getting closer to the truth about ai - their eyes are also their connection to each other (as reincarnations, ai's children, intentions, etc) but on the opposite side, so when their goals align, they kind of sync and both get one black star in the other eye does that even make sense
@@akivillion2434 Those are good theories, although (another minor spoiler) Aqua actually lost his only star when he loses his goal of revenge for a while, so while it’s possible that Ruby and Aqua’s stars are synced somehow, it doesn’t make sense in this case since Aqua had no stars while Ruby still had one. I do like your idea that they are getting closer to the truth of Ai, but then again, other characters unrelated to Ai are able to have stars in their eyes so that wouldn’t really work either.
AI's final moments also reflects that the lyrics in the end of the full version of idol, the opening theme, perfectly matching up with her hugging her children from behind saying I love you, but disappearedcwhen they turned around
The eyes changed based on their emotions. Which is easy to assess. The only people that can see the stars are the readers. I think the characters in the show “see” them but it is more related to seeing the brightness of the person or how sometimes a person can sometimes “glow” at certain times.
When I first saw some clips and spoilers from the anime I thought Ai was an actual star, like, a star that fell from the sky and lived as a human idol (because of the scene in the hospital's roof where she's right below a bright star.) And was killed because she was not from this world or something like that.
When I first saw the stars and how they changed color I figure it was visual way to show us the audience how the characters are feeling...I mean think about it if other characters could see the Star eyes (like Doma's rainbow eyes from Demon Slayer) than when characters talked about how great Ai the Idol is they likely would mentioned her Star Eyes after all it's not like she was trying to hide them or they were just Special Designed Color Eye Contacts.
As I have mentioned to people even as a little girl was one of my favorite Quotes "The eyes are the gateway to ones soul." as someone who embodies this as the only way to figure out what I'm truly feeling/thinking at any given moment I can say with up most certainty the star eyes are something that may, in fact, will be unique to the individual (ones true self/soul) not just the same premise for everyone who may end up with them.
For me the star in there eyes represents how good they are at lying or convincing everyone, a lie that is convincingly real enough to be real. While the dark stars represents there dark thoughts and negative emotion like what happened to aqua and ai. ( Spoiler ) Ruby eventually receive both of her dark eyes due to knowing the death of Goro(aqua past life) and ai also knowing that there death was intented and not a coincidence. After this ruby was in despair and wants to take revenge to the person that killed both Goro and ai. Also those that have the stars shines more than other like Akane.
I agree. (Spoiler!!!) . . . .. .. . . . . . . . .. . . . When Ruby got dark stars in both her eyes, Aqua's star in his left eye disappeared. This happened after Aqua learned that their "father" had already "died" and that gave him the freedom to live with no lies and give up on his "revenge." This was exactly the same instance with Ai when she said "I love you" to her children with NO LIES. For a second, the stars disappeared in Ai's eyes before she died, indicating that she died free from her lies. Just like what the video stated, Fast forward.... Aqua's stars, eventually returned to both of his eyes, but this time, it was dangerously dark.
I always thought that the star eyes mean how good you are at convincing others of a lie Spoilers for the manga btw Like Akane got them when she was pretending to be Ai and she was damn convincing. Then Ruby got them when she started going down the manipulative lie. Aqua lost his for a while cause he no longer needed to lie to get away with things Though I guess this doesn't prove much since Miki has the stars whenever they want to look cool for no ^^'
Some people say the eyes are inherited, but one thing I don't understand is that why Ruby and Aqua wouldn't have two star eyes if that was the case. WARNING! MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD! PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE SPOILED! Hikaru Kamiki, the father, also has star eyes, meaning Ruby and Aqua would've gotten stars in both eyes. Because, star eyes are recessive traits, the table would be YY*YY (With Y representing recessive and X representing dominant) meaning that no matter what, both eyes of Ruby and Aqua would be stars. My personal theory is that the stars represent their intentions. Aqua, for example, had pure eyes at the start, and after Ai's death, his eyes turned black due to him seeking revenge. Ruby, had pure eyes until late in the manga, where due to her discovering Goro's dead body, she now wants to seek revenge on the killer of Ai and Goro. Now, after Aqua ran a DNA test and found that Himekawa was his half brother, he knew that they had the same father. But Himekawa thought that his biological father was dead (Kamiki wasn't) and threw Aqua off, making Aqua lose his motive and thus, the stars in his eyes disappear. Now, I believe that the reason Ruby gained stars in both eyes is because she inherited the other side of the will, revenge, because Aqua gave it up. Now I am probably wrong on the Ruby gaining both stars because Aqua does go on to gain stars in both eyes just due to revenge.
It is worth noting that, while the star-eyes are not visible to the characters in-universe, characters in-universe do _react_ to them. Their showing up in one character's eyes shows she's achieved a particular spoiler accomplishment and Aqua reacts very strongly to what they represent in that moment. When Aqua or Ruby's stars glow, people are hit by the same sort of charisma that Ai seemed to have. When Aqua's star turns dark, too, it is a clear indication of how well his emotions get across.
i don't think only viewers can see the eyes.because in the anime when aqua was asked about what his choice in women was he talked about eyes the glimmer like the sun. and then akane pulled up the enxt day with the same starry eyes and aqua recognized them being different.
Now we just need an analysis of the OP and ED 😉 Just remember, the ED is much underrated IMO BTW: The No in the Oshi No Ko looks like there eyes - Looking at you like "ready for another lie?! 😁"
I think that why aqua and rubys eyes only have one star is that unlike ai, who is kind of living a full lie, aqua and ruby is only living half a lie by lying about having a past life and lying about being ai’s kids etc.
The manga later on has showed that ruby also has 2 star eyes later on.but I don’t wanna spoil too much so that’s all I’ll say and also aqua’s star disappear somewhere in the future 👀
For me personally the star eye in oshi no ko is the power to influence others people, by theory is this, the one who start developed star eye is Ai which can be pass down to their child, hence why each one of their child get half power of star eyes, but in case like akane, she probably being influence by Ai star eye energy which somehow she got the star eyes.
Took the day to read the manga after watching the show yesterday. Recommend you do it, its still ongoing but its about at chapter 119 as of writing this. Glad I did read it though. Waiting for it to fully animate is gonna keep me on edge too long with such a good story that hooked me. It hits me hard in the feels too.. As for her eyes. Nothing has been revealed in the manga yet. But just to give a slight slight spoiler. The eyes don't have anything to do with Star power or talent, etc. Like people are saying in the comments. I feel it has to do with a persons intent, good and evil. In the current anime, Aqua's eyes change color when his intent changes. Some parts in the manga reflect this for other characters too who aren't in the main cast.
I dont believe that Ai's lover has star eyes. If he did, i expect both Aqua's and Ruby's eyes to be both stars. Probably a indication of being related would be the blonde hair. But who knows? Maybe Ai was blonde too, her hair is purple afterall. Purple is not a natural hair color. (Dont spoil me, im a anime only.)
well having read the manga, you see more examples of people "unlocking their star power", so I personally think the stars have to do with being the most brilliant, selfish, and attention-hungry person on stage. You'll see soon in the anime of an example of this, and there will be more examples to come.
The star eyes become much more clear in the manga. There's a pretty concrete in the text explanation for what the eyes mean and what causes them. You see others with them outside of Akane later. (spoilers -----------) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) (spoilers) An effective front, from an actor or entertainer are signified in the eye, using your lying and deceptive ability for something bad will usually turn the stars black and they get whiter and brighter the more of the lying ability is being used for something more positive. Also the one eye has nothing to do with them just being her children. (more spoilers, bigger ones) further in the manga when Ruby becomes more aware of her mother's fate (and Goro's) she awakens a second permanent eye. Aqua, as of chapter 100, has not awakened a second one. There's other evidence in the show. Kana has multiple star eyes when she acts with all her ability, but they're actual stars and not stars that are huge and bright. The stars we see in Aqua, Akane, Ai, and Ruby aren't "stars" they're the "the morning star". Literally a planet masquerading as a star. This is evidenced by the fact that Kana acts with just as much, if not more ability than Aqua or Akane at times, but she never has the morning star. I think this is largely due to the fact that even when Kana lies and tries to be deceptive she's ineffective at her, despite her acting ability.
I just realized that Ai's name was really intentional. The Hoshino eyes are a major point to the narrative...the fact they emphasize it via Ai's name (sounds like eye) is something I probably should've picked up sooner. I'd like to mention that lithe visual input an eye get activates in the opposite side of the brain. Left brain is the more rational part, right is known as the emotional creative one. Interestingly, Aqua's Star eye is on the right. May allude to his previous adult life where he got the chance to mature (unlike Sarina whose brain was still developing). It could also allude to how he was the first twin who plotted revenge first (granted, it was motivated bc his emotions). Ruby's over there is experiencing teenage life and mentioned in the video, trying to follow Hoshino's Steps. Later she wants to plot revenge and imitates her brother. What I'm getting at is that what side their starred eyes are on may reflect their thought process (not just intent and true emotions). The fact they have only one and its on opposing eyes likely shows that they are twins who shares a connection with Ai and with each other (past and present life) because it completes the image of Ai having two starry eyes. I did not pick up on the white and black eyes though.
3:10 yes as far as we know the stars are only visual to the viewers eyes. And the other thing you said: “if other people could see the stars in aqua and ruby’s eyes, then other people would know their her children” wel no, you see, other characters are going to get stars in their eyes too. I think that I saw Akane in the manga gaining them first other then the 3 Hoshino’s if i’m not mistaken
(Spoilers) . . . . . Since Star Eyes aren’t unique to just the Hoshinos, shown by Yura and can be acquired/unlock in the case of Akane. Do anyone think that Kana has the potential to acquire Star Eyes too? Currently it seems unlikely because how it’s overall nature is based on “lies” and Kana is probably the most honest person in the story currently. Though she does have a variation of it which the fandom dub “Sun Eyes”, personally I would still like to see a genuine Star Eyes. (also since when dafck did idol anime has what’s basically a power system? XD)
Some fans have speculated that one *spoiler* scene has shown Kana to have star eyes, not just one per eye but a "galaxy" in them. Whatever that means is still up to interpretation :)
I think the Eyes represent the potentional and chrisma of the person. That when bright it represents hope and chrisma. Yet when dark it represents the dark and lies that lie within. Both of the kids having it on opposite eyes represent this. As Ruby is hopeful while Aqua is on the dark path of putting on a facade and lying to get ahead and find his mother killer. That why throughout the show you see the eyes in characters that reach their potential.
Upon first glance and being familiar w idols and that kinda culture, I think it is how different and charismatic idols are. It’s more than how they act, how they look, how they sound.
I would probably say the Star eyes mean the character ambition and drive, when the character drive come from good place the star is white and when it comes from dark place the star is black (like when Aqua thinking about taking revenge or the reality of entertainment industry or teaching people a lesson his eyes are dark but when he help his sister or saving akane stuff that comes from good side of him his eyes are white). Also it seems that how much ambition correlates with the star size with small one when their ambitions is low and big to going beyond boundaries when aqua in super revenge mod
As much as this makes sense, there is one major hole in this explanation, it’s that as shown in her meeting with Ichigo, Ai had those eyes before she began to lie.
*spoiler ahead* * * * If you want the "official" answer, the sparkling eye is "The eye of deceiving". It is the ability of making people believe lies are truths. (From chapter 96)
My personal theories of their eyes can be explained by both their emotional state and mental state, but also as a sign of their attachment to their mother in contention with their own lives and perhaps past lives. They are a reflection of Ai herself, but also shows that perhaps, it is their attachment to Ai that shows their stars. This is shown in the manga. I know most people here are likely anime only, so please read with caution the content below. I tried to keep everything above this caution anime only, and manga to a minimum. Thank you for your consideration. Manga spoilers: In the manga, both aqua and ruby lose their starry eyes at one point in time, one or another. They also gain an additional star in the other eye, much like Ai, at some points in the manga. This is shown when Aqua at first stops to pursue Ai’s killer (whom he believed was dead, but didn’t know wasn’t). As he looks back to Ruby when she asks if she should make an egg for him, we can see his star in his eye disappears as he says “Yes, please”, while smiling. Thus, this represents his detachment from Ai and ultimately him becoming more of “Aqua” rather than “Ai”. However, when Aqua ultimately realises that Ai’s killer is still alive, he becomes extremely torn between living his life as Aqua, or pursuing Ai. This results in him getting rid of anyone who may be hurt because of him, and in an alleyway when he decides to go after Hikaru (Ai’s exbf), we can see two DARK stars in both of his eyes, symbolising his sinister intent regarding Ai (not Ai herself, but ultimately the situation surrounding Ai). Therefore this shows that, by being attached to Ai, Aqua will gain stars within his eyes, which reflect upon his emotional and mental state. Now let’s talk about Ruby. I might need to revise my memory regarding this, but nonetheless I’ll explore what I think. Take it with a grain of salt because as of now there isn’t a HUGE amount pertaining Ruby’s starry eyes. She isn’t shown to be very emotionally unstable or in turmoil as Aqua, but she also gains a second dark star in her eye. This was when she finds the corpse of Garou, her doctor (past life of Aqua). She now knows that the killer killed both the sensei she loved, and the star she looked up to. In this, she comes to realise that she had lost everything in her past life that she adored, and this goes on the path of vengeance upon interactions with Ichigo. These two dark stars within her eyes persist, even when she is shown to be happy on the surface, but the audience knows that she has changed. Ruby only loses this darkness upon realising that her sensei became Aqua, and that Ai wanted her to be Ruby, not a reflection of Ai. Thus, as Ruby lets go of Ai and becomes something greater (as said by Aqua himself, “you and Ai are different people… you were even more radiant than Ai.”). Hence, as Ruby lets go of chasing Ai’s shadow, she loses both her stars as she becomes Ruby. In conclusion, I believe this is what the stars within their eyes represent. The brighter they shine, the more they want to attach themselves to AI HERSELF, but the darker they become, the more they attach to AI’s MURDER.
To my understanding, Those stars basically represent a person's "star power" or ability to be famous i think? Basically, there's a story about Marylin Monroe, who i believe mentioned that she could turn her "star power" on and off at will. With her star power off, she could walk down a street and no one would notice her. But when she turned her "star power" on, basically instantly everyone around her noticed her and turned to look at her. She apparently showed it off to someone, i think a producer or something. This story i feel is the source of the star eyes. Ai having two star eyes, basically show she has peak star power. While her kids only having one represent only inherited part of her star power. And whether the stars are bright or dark represents what is the source of that star power? Either a pure emotion or dark ones.
Okay guys, what if... The stars in their eyes has something to do with reincarnation, like an indication that they have already reincarnated twice or once?
The Stars represent Life Case in point when Ai dies her Stars in her eyes fade Ruby and Aqua only have Half the Life of their original past life along with their memories
They each have one sharingan (except Ai who has two) which is the white star in their eyes that gives them genjutsu like powers like how Ai can decive her audience in order to keep them attracted to her, and how Aqua can read the minds of his directors, but when they awaken a strong desire to kill, they awaken mangakyo sharingan in both eyes which are the black stars which have unknown abilities but are known to cause the user to emit a dark aura. So far it has manifested in both Aqua and Ruby. One can also awaken a temporary version of the sharingan by closely imitating those that permanently possess one like how akane awakened hers by imitating Ai, but it cannot evolve in to a mangakyo and can only replicate the abilities of the user that is being imitated. They do not possess any of thier own abilities. From what we know so far the eyes decended from Amaterasu the Japanese sun god who also caused sarina and goro to reincarnate as Ai's children.
The thing about the star in their eyes being visible only to the viewer and not to other characters, so as to cue us into a hidden or speacial meaning, reminds me of something. Often in Japanese a word written i nkanji will have small characters, called furigana, above or next to it to show you how the word is pronounced. Japanese literature, especially manga, uses a literary technique where the word spelled by the furigana is a different word than the kanji, and it's implied that the character speaks or thinks one word but means the other word. As an example, in one manga it had the word 仲間 (nakama), meaning companion or close friend, but the furigana said かぞく (kazoku), meaning family. The characters in the story were not related by blood and thus not technically family, but they were raised together and were so close that they think of each other as such, hence the speaker in that panel says "kazoku" when referring to "nakama".
I saw another video about the starie eyes and, although your answer is interesting, they explained it as a form of star power. They did inheret their star power from AI and when it turns black, it's a sign of corruption, as the star collapses and turns into a black hole. Another interesting aspect of the stars is when AI died, the stars faded as if to symbolize the life leaving their body. The truth could be a combination of what this video says and the star power idea. Also I have read the wiki and yes, their father also has the starring eyes.
Without spoiling much and being up to date with the manga IMO the eyes show the characters drive/having a goal + if its positive or negative(dark glow) Later in the series another character will show this characteristic of the eye glow but it doesn't have a star shape
Still didn’t watch the video but wanted to say my opinion from what I’ve seen in the manga, I think the star symbolizes thier passion or determination to achieve something.
I'm only watch the show two days ago and today were the first time I hear the opening in english, those are not only represent their mental health, talent, or just their desire. It's true to the saying of "eyes are the window of soul". It's represent their own sense of self, they lie so much in daily life that only from the eyes you could see their own self. Also Aqua and Ruby only have one each are because their self still accepts half of the fact that they are Ai child, once they fully accepted their fate and past it's become two. Some say that when you lose your way you can't see anything in front of you, that's why Aqua eyes become darker. Also when you truly fight to your heart it reflect a fire in your eyes, that's why their Eyes sometimes shining bright (at least it is in the manga). So yeah at least that's my interpretation, the owner of star eyes are the one who always represent lie to their life. They are the one who fully submerged themselves so deep in their role so much so that they bring that role and persona to their own life. Now reading it again, I comprehend how talented Akane were. She fully submerged in whatever role she get and literary recreate the character persona in herself.
after watching this i have two new separate theories (i have no idea what led to this): - stars are the amount of negative experience (they can express emotion though) at least in terms of family members - aqua and ruby never had a dad IN THIS LIFE and never really loved anyone (unsure but possible) - one star - ai had no parents or anyone to love - two stars - light in their eyes is a representation of motivation to live and their capabilities at the moment (i agree with the lies too though) - when ai died, the light in her eyes (of course) died out, but at 7:03 aqua's star is white but half gone, he didn't want to live anymore until his newfound motivation to kill the guy that killed ai
Just watched this, but one thing you didn't mention is how the blue haired girl who tried to commit death(forgot her name), had star eyes herself when she imitated Ai perfectly for Aqua
I don’t think so, the white eyes are when their are lying, the white represents happy emotions and purity. While the blacken eye represents darkness. In the anime when aqua is talking about dark topic and have dark emotions, like hate or his intentions to find his father and his hate for father. Also Ai had blacken stars when she was talking about no one to care for her and never been love. I do agree is about the potential one has as an figure in the entertainment industry.
White with sparkles represents positivity, white itself means neutral. Black and dark means negativity or if kept for a while, a reaction to something traumatic.
The stars make me think about Izanagi from the shintoïsme religion. its said that when he washed his wound in the river , from his right eye came out Tsukuyomi and his left Amaterasu. Tsukuyomi the divinity of the moon : Aqua Amaterasu the divinity of the sun : Ruby Amaterasu is mentioned in the manga , the first time when ruby make his babysiter think he is ofc Amaterasu and the 2nd one when they get back to their native city to make a clip.
I have only just realized that Aqua and Rubys red and blue eyes are the two colours that make purple. Which is the colours of Ai's eyes
@No, that's wrong. it's the same sort of thing though
My personal theory about this - Ai can mean the color indigo in Japanese. Which is a mixture of cyan and magenta in CMYK printing, coinciding with Aqua and Ruby’s colors respectively.
Also you know what also red and blue, Kana and Akane hair colour
She named them Aqua and Ruby based on their eye color

( spoiler) I believe the star means their talent, skills and capabilities. Aqua and ruby got one star showing that they got their mother’s genes meaning they have the the capability of becoming stars just like their mother. Also later on Akane gets two stars on her eyes when acting like Ai meaning that her giving her 100% and acting similar to Ai triggered the stars to activate. Later on ( sorry for the spoilers ) Ruby gets to stars when she starts working really really hard to achieve her goals. So yea the stars mean their talent, skills, and hard work.

I think it also means motivation/determination.
Aqua's star darkened when he became truly motivated by the fact that his father deserves ultimate punishment.
And at some point in the manga, Ruby's star also darkened and started to use her power as an idol to achieve her evil goals
Dark stars = Bad Motivation/Intentions
Light Stars = (Seemingly) Good Motivation/Intentions
@@Alexander42099he was talking about the other girl that died
Actually, it is definitely a reference to Japanese Gods (even Ruby refers herself as Amaterasu when she was a baby).
In the Japanese tale, Izanagi washed his left eye in the river, he made Amaterasu (Ruby, god of sun, Left eye star)
and when he washed his right eye, he made Tsukuyomi (Aquamarine, god of the moon, right eye star).
Later, in life, they both Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu married each other (hinted like how Sarina wanted to marry doc when she got older)...

i never put that much thought into it, but i remember going: wait but their eyes nobody notices them?
samee I always thought it was obvious since the stars correspond with their emotions/actions/etc 😭 media literacy y’all!
Fun fact: Ai means “Love in Japanese” and it’s pronunciation Ai resembles the English word “Eye”
So, it’s an important detail, about her whole character
You looked that up
it's different
@@Twaiplayerit's pretty easy to make that connection. When you watch anime with subs, you know what "Ai" means
Well when I think about it also resembles with word "Lie" Ai has eyes which are full of lies
So ai having two star eyes means that she'll get reincarnated somehow?
You got the intent on the stars being a cue for the audience, and not actually on their eyes. However, the white stars don't indicate "deceit."
This theme/device is like a play on the concept of yin & yang.
Someone haven't read the manga.

I'm a manga reader, but for me I think that the stars in their eyes represents a goal that they desire.

(spoiler)
...both Ruby and Aqua end up with 2 stars later on, both black, so it makes you wonder how they got the extra star.
@@abckidscroblox i had multiple theories, but after reading what you said, two remain:
- they're getting closer to the truth about ai
- their eyes are also their connection to each other (as reincarnations, ai's children, intentions, etc) but on the opposite side, so when their goals align, they kind of sync and both get one black star in the other eye
does that even make sense
@@akivillion2434 Those are good theories, although (another minor spoiler)
Aqua actually lost his only star when he loses his goal of revenge for a while, so while it’s possible that Ruby and Aqua’s stars are synced somehow, it doesn’t make sense in this case since Aqua had no stars while Ruby still had one.

This might fit in with how Akane was able to replicate those starry eyes.
In one of the scenes in episode 1 ai was holding the star sand gift while pointing at the star in her eye

Just like what the video stated,
Fast forward....
Aqua's stars, eventually returned to both of his eyes, but this time, it was dangerously dark.
I always thought that the star eyes mean how good you are at convincing others of a lie
Spoilers for the manga btw
Like Akane got them when she was pretending to be Ai and she was damn convincing. Then Ruby got them when she started going down the manipulative lie. Aqua lost his for a while cause he no longer needed to lie to get away with things
Though I guess this doesn't prove much since Miki has the stars whenever they want to look cool for no ^^'
Some people say the eyes are inherited, but one thing I don't understand is that why Ruby and Aqua wouldn't have two star eyes if that was the case.

When i think about it, the first think that pops up is the title name because it means "My star".
If anyone has seen katanagiri, I'm assuming you already know the meaning behind those eyes.
The whole star eyes thing is actually their true feelings inside their souls.
Now we just need an analysis of the OP and ED 😉 Just remember, the ED is much underrated IMO
BTW: The No in the Oshi No Ko looks like there eyes - Looking at you like "ready for another lie?! 😁"
wait what… 推しの子… uhh, I guess?
I think that why aqua and rubys eyes only have one star is that unlike ai, who is kind of living a full lie, aqua and ruby is only living half a lie by lying about having a past life and lying about being ai’s kids etc.
When it first came out, i thought it was just another a series about an IDOL called Ai, then i finally decided to give it a shot. I was so wrong.
Ruby has both stars but black from Chapter 79, I think you are right about the emotion theory😭😭

Tbh ai's death is the only deatg tht made me cry in anime so far

Waiting for it to fully animate is gonna keep me on edge too long with such a good story that hooked me. It hits me hard in the feels too..
As for her eyes. Nothing has been revealed in the manga yet. But just to give a slight slight spoiler. The eyes don't have anything to do with Star power or talent, etc. Like people are saying in the comments. I feel it has to do with a persons intent, good and evil. In the current anime, Aqua's eyes change color when his intent changes. Some parts in the manga reflect this for other characters too who aren't in the main cast.
Same here. Very rarely do I read the manga. But how episode 7 ended, it convinced me to read the manga and keep going to 119.

An effective front, from an actor or entertainer are signified in the eye, using your lying and deceptive ability for something bad will usually turn the stars black and they get whiter and brighter the more of the lying ability is being used for something more positive.

The sun is also a star tho so-
Them having star eyes on different sides indicates they don't see eye to eye.
I don't if anyone noticed but Akane can make her eyes starry-eyed. Great post

Stars reflect the deepest feelings of every character
I hope you get to read the latest Manga release! 🍿
Manga spoilers:
In the manga, both aqua and ruby lose their starry eyes at one point in time, one or another.
Ai looks like twilight sparkle form my little pony 😂
I watched the first 90minute episode again and I cried again too. This anime is on another level...
Thanks for the video, I enjoyed you're opinion. You're a pretty cool content creator. I am looking forward to your video on ep 8. I can't wait for it😂
here's a drinking game that'll put you down for the forever nap, take a shot every time he says ai/eye/I.
7:46 nice i definitely agree. I was scared she wasnt going to say it or mean it
I think the reason Ruby and Aqua have only one eye with a star is to show their "Child of Ai Hoshino" Side and "Sarina" , "Gorou" side
how many times he said eyes in this video
It must be really easy to be an agent in the oshi no ko universe. Just go around looking for people with freakishly vibrant eyes
The Stars represent Life
Case in point when Ai dies her Stars in her eyes fade
Ruby and Aqua only have Half the Life of their original past life along with their memories
Nice observation, but it wouldn't work because that means everyone living would have star eyes.
From what we know so far the eyes decended from Amaterasu the Japanese sun god who also caused sarina and goro to reincarnate as Ai's children.
what
They each are apart of her, one is the lives and dark the other is a wanting to be loved and an idol.
I think the star eyes means on how passionate or want to accomplish something like how Ai is passionate to love.
what exactly does hikaru want to achieve,, kill all actresses??/sarc
@@ioriyume maybe revenge or it's just trauma bc of the lady who did something bad about him(idk if this is true lol).
@@ioriyume or want to accomplish something in a dark way bc he has black star eyes
I think the all the white dots and the star is just a highlight 👍
Remember in nature the stars that burn the brightest are stars that have a short life span
Without spoiling much and being up to date with the manga
IMO the eyes show the characters drive/having a goal + if its positive or negative(dark glow)
Later in the series another character will show this characteristic of the eye glow but it doesn't have a star shape
Ai's eyes sets "Eye" apart
She fully submerged in whatever role she get and literary recreate the character persona in herself.
it's their family doujutsu
as for now only aqua awakening his mangekyou sharingan and become an avenger like uchiha sasuke
Technically, Sasuke does have his own star/petal shaped eye pattern
after watching this i have two new separate theories (i have no idea what led to this):
- stars are the amount of negative experience (they can express emotion though) at least in terms of family members
- aqua and ruby never had a dad IN THIS LIFE and never really loved anyone (unsure but possible) - one star
- ai had no parents or anyone to love - two stars
- light in their eyes is a representation of motivation to live and their capabilities at the moment (i agree with the lies too though)
- when ai died, the light in her eyes (of course) died out, but at 7:03 aqua's star is white but half gone, he didn't want to live anymore until his newfound motivation to kill
the guy that killed ai
Its the asthetic choice for the authors OC. Like you get on deviant art.
in ep 1 Ai says "Idols are objects of warship, you know?
They sparkle though the magic of lies" i suspect that is the meaning
tbh the second star activating on each twin only after a traumatic event or discovery is interesting to me
Just watched this, but one thing you didn't mention is how the blue haired girl who tried to commit death(forgot her name), had star eyes herself when she imitated Ai perfectly for Aqua
Black and dark means negativity or if kept for a while, a reaction to something traumatic.
eyes eyes Ai
I definitely recommend reading the manga as well. This anime is incredible.
Tobirama: *Those damn Uchihas…..*
They're beautiful.
I can confirm that in the manga that the father has the stars in both eyes and also has blond hair
The stars make me think about Izanagi from the shintoïsme religion.
its said that when he washed his wound in the river , from his right eye came out Tsukuyomi and his left Amaterasu.
Tsukuyomi the divinity of the moon : Aqua
Amaterasu the divinity of the sun : Ruby
Amaterasu is mentioned in the manga , the first time when ruby make his babysiter think he is ofc Amaterasu and the 2nd one when they get back to their native city to make a clip.
ITS a curse for me haha its their intention to achieve something they deeply want
For my knowledge, the stars represent extraordinary talent in something. Be it acting, music, or something else.
anime only, but never thought I'd imagine their dad having two black star eyes..if I'm wrong I'll be glad though, just can't imagine how dark that is.
I think that the star resembles that the left eye ruby star means hapiness and that the eye from aqua means darkness
