For years in my childhood, I literally thought "Feraligatr" was a misspelling and that GameFreak just ran out of space to put "Feraligator".

@@samvoss6697 The key word there was "at the time". Feraligatr is from gen 2, Barraskewda from gen 8. I think the limit is 12 letters nowadays.

For anyone who ever wondered about hoothoots legs, when birds are very happy they fluff up and stand on one leg an typically go to sleep. Hoothoot hits all of these, being an owl he sleeps during the day, he and noctowl seem very fluffy and fat, while hoothoot seems to be a happy little sassy owl that evolves into one angry bird. Still waiting on my budgie pokemon. Not chatot the parrot pokemon. A literal budgie. Maybe an electric flying parakeet to go with the lemon lime colors of a budgie.

yeah but whenever I hear people praise GSC or HGSS it's never "Johto is awesome". It's more like "You can go to Kanto again". If GSC only had Johto in the state it was in, it would not be praised nearly as much. Johto is the weakest most boring region imo

I'd like to point out that the 600 base stat total isn't the only qualifier for a Pseudo-Legendary.
There are actually 3 of them.
1) the 600 base stat total
2) they're part of the Slow level-up system (1 & 1/8th million exp to level 100)
3) having a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Bonus fun fact: in Japan, they're called the 600 Club because of their base stats. Makes it sound a bit more exclusive than Pseudo-Legendary.
Kind of misses the point when all(most I mean, now it's most) Mythical Pokémon have all the same 100 stats, making them all the 600 club entries.

They're named for it in japan, but that's not all that gets a mon into the club.

some day there’s going to be a non-legendary Pokémon with 1,250,000 exp, 3 stage evolutionary line, but has more than 600 base stat total. Not sure if it’s already happened, though.

4:01 I remember when I was getting back into Pokemon and playing ORAS, there was a girl on the route with ash falling from the sky that says that Fairy types are easily flammable or something like that before you battle her. I might remember it wrong tho, too lazy to check lol. So I kinda thought Fairy type was weak to fire for a while.
It's not very effective against Fire, at least.
There's a way simpler explanation on how gens work: they are defined by the Pokemon and changes to the core rules of the game (adding typings, changing abilities) and not by region. HG and SS could arguably be considered gen 2 if they removed everything (core gameplay wise) that was introduced post gen2 and only improved on the graphics. The same way as the ports of Gen1 and Gen2 to 3DS are considered their respective regions and not Gen 6/7.
Let's Go seems to be an outlier but not quite, since it has the Fairy type and introduces a completely new Pokemon (Meltan) as well as it includes Alolan variants, which automatically makes it a Gen 7.
I used to think that Fearow evolved into Ho-oh when I was like, 8. My friend and I would always compete for who could get it to evolve first, and I remember showing him my exp going up and he'd just cry. I leveled a Fearow up to level 100 in Diamond without it ever evolving.

With hoothoot, I always believed that it’s showing leg was just two legs standing together, the art style being the main reason that a middle line was missing.
I mean, I'm pretty sure the pokedex tells you that it has two legs, it just likes to Stand on one leg at a time and moves them so fast when it hops onto the other one it's unseeable to humans.

Saw a Gen 1 games review video and some people were upset that the Let's go games weren't talked about lol. Had to explain this concept and they think just because it's a remake of a Gen 1 game it should count as Gen 1, but that ain't how it works.

@@himarik4609 meh, it's easier to say "I hate gen 4" than "I hate DPP", most people know "I hate gen 4" doesn't include remakes of gen 2 that were already good and that just benefitted from gen 4's enhancement... unless you also hate the remakes in which case you're in the clear I guess.
anyway I guess it's weird because saying remakes are part of the gen they release in is fine from a mechanical perspective but they're still taking stuff from the older games so it's a gray area and I don't think anyone really cares as long as they know what you're talking about.
...I mean, unless you just get really super sensitive about someone disliking your favorite generation and you just wanna throw shade at a remake they like that existed in that generation, like someone whose channel avatar is from gen 4. Then I can see why it matters to some people. :)
@@Karmy. It's not. There's no Mega Evolution in Gen 3, there's no Cosplay Pikachu in Gen 3, there was a Casino in Gen 3 (*cries*), you can't soar in the sky with Latios/as in Gen 3. ORAS is NOT Gen 3 even if they both take place in Hoenn.

Honestly, it's not too far-fetched to believe that. In DPPt when you encounter Rotom in the Old Chateau, its battle uses the legendary encounter theme, and you can only encounter one of it in the game. Plus, I'm pretty sure there were some guidebooks published in Gen 4 that actually classified Rotom as a legendary.

When one of my friends asked what my favorite legendary was, I responded Rotom because electric types are my favorite and a floating lighting bolt is awesome. My friend laughed and told me that Rotom wasn't a legendary, I even had to Google it. I was so sad lol

Worse yet, damn near everybody knew how to pronounce "Ogre" because Shrek released TWO YEARS EARLIER! If they just messed up "Ky" I could understand, "key" "kay" "kwai" I could UNDERSTAND that mistake.
But mispronouncing "oh-ger" as "Oh-gree"?! Post-Shrek? Unforgivable.

I’m honestly suprised that they didn’t doubled down in tangla’s Medusa’s origins by making tangrowth have more “snake-like” aspects, instead we got “Vine Gorilla” (not bad, but suprised they didn’t spell it out for us)
Is there anything aside from someone writing on some wiki it might be based on Medusa an indication that it actually *is* based on Medusa? Especially in the original japanese, nothing really hints towards it and it just generally seems to be the concept of a mystery being covered in thick, unkempt vines, and Tangrowth is just that as a caveman or something.
Feel like if Tangela truly was based on Medusa, it would have learned glare (snake glare in japanese) eons ago as a nod, none of the pokédex entries or anime appearances talk about that, anything. Seems like someone just thought "oh, the vines kinda look like Medusa's snake hair" and ran with it.

Japanese pronounce the E sound similar to that of the accented E used in the word Pokémon, which is why it is pronounced that way.

Julian Adams - It's actually above most legendary Pokemon, tying with Regigigas, Groudon, and Kyogre. The legendary Pokemon that surpass it are those found on the covers of games, along with Mewtwo, with the only mythical to surpass it being Arceus. This is, of course, said without including the various ways certain Pokemon can enter a powered up form (such as with Mega-Evolution).
also i heard u need to be a the final form of a 3 stage evolution to be a legendary so thats another point why pkmn like volcarona and lucario arnet pseudo legendary

I almost threw up seeing this. Things wrong with this:
1) The Squirtle and Rhyhorn have different names. On top of that, calling the Squirtle a Charmander when it uses freakin' thunderbolt! Which is impossible for Squirtle to learn.
2) The Squirtle had no gender.
3) They are legit fighting on water when you can't wven find a Rhyhorn on the water.
4) The thunderbold actually did something to a rock and GROUND type.

Gen 1 was full of Early Installment Weirdness like that, especially in regards to whether the Pokémon world was the same as the real world or not. It wasn't until Gen 4 that Pokémon had fully sorted out its worldbuilding and was, without a shadow of a doubt, set in its own unique world.

Just compare both maps. Kanto in Pokemon is more square shaped than the actual map. Also it didn´t have a name in the first Gen. Japanese fans called it the Kanto-Region because Johto was a new one.

Like explaining that games within a generation share rules, combat mechanics and changes like movesets, physical/special split, tweaks to items/abilities/moves, how stats are determined, etc. battling in hgss is a lot closer to how it works dppt than in gsc.

A new generation always begins with a brand new pair of games, in a new region with new Pokémon and characters
Not a single person could POSSIBLY argue that they’re Gen 8 games
A big misconception in Pokémon that I feel is worth mentioning: Evolution is not equivalent to aging. The proof comes from the anime, which featured a Treecko elder in an episode of the Gen 3 anime. The misconception may have entirely been caused by baby Pokémon, which, in theory, grow up into their next stage of evolution (represented by the friendship stat, I suppose).
I always see the baby Pokémon as being sterile due to genetic mishaps, like mules (I think).
And thank you for addressing this. It is so hard to not view it as aging, especially when starters' middle evolutions always look like awkard teenagers (perfect example: Dartrix). But I also think about that Treecko scene.
Even though it evolves by trading (with a Metal Coat, though the anime defies game mechanics, such as Exeggcute evolving without a Leaf Stone), Tracey's Scyther is also pretty old
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon doesnt really help this case out either, seeing as you're called 'school-aged', you and your classmates are all first evolutions, and the beginning of "the talk" with Ms Audino....

Quote taken from the wiki. The anime rarely lines up with any other form of pokemon media so you can't qualify something as fact in the video games just because you saw it in the show.
Didn't the anime also have a baby Nidoqueen in one episode, btw?
For a pokemon to be a Pseudo Legendary, it must meet 4 criteria
1. It is not already a legendary
2. It is part of a 3 stage evolution line
3. It has a slow level up rate (1.25 Million xp at level 100)
4. And of course, it must have a BST of 600
You can just strike off "not already a legendary" even, because there's no legendary pokémon that even meets the other 3 criteria.

I thought any Pokémon that was the slightest bit rare or unique was a legendary. So Mimikyu, Rotom, Zoroark, Ditto, you name it.

@@claymenefee6999 Remakes are not the same thing as DLC. You don't just add something to a Gold/Silver cartridge and magically it becomes HG/SS. Nor can you actually play the remake games on a console corresponding to the original generation.
@@funghiman8492 thats irrelevant. Its the gen2 region with a focus on gen 2 pokemon, with the gen 2 story. Its fucking gen 2. Its a new and improved gen 2 game, but its still gen 2. Remaking an old game doesn't make it mutually exclusive from its predecessor.
And considering the majority of people still call it Gen 2, it doesn't matter what you think.
If you made a remake of starwars episode 4, that doesnt make it episode 10.

@titan5611 I used to think both rock and ice were weak to each other because I used an ice attack on Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Onix and Aerodactyl until I used it on one which didn't have the secondary type of ground or flying as they're the weaknesses to ice that they have

Everything Gen 4 was amazing. I enjoyed Diamond and Pearl as they were, but Platinum was just on a whole different level thanks to the Distortion World and Battle Frontier. But HGSS is ultimately what made it my overall favorite generation.
Also it baffles me how much people are in denial about how generations work 🤣
While I disagree that DP were good games or aged well, yes, Platinum and HGSS imo are some of the strongest pokémon games, ever.
Honestly it baffles me more that people think generations are some sacred concept with zero room for subjectivity.

I did fall victim to thinking Haxorus was a pseudo legendary for a while because all three-stage dragons at that point were pseudos. Haxorus remains as the only three-stage dragon type that isn't a pseudo legendary, so it's the exception to the rule.

All pseudo legendaries are 3-stage dragon types with the last evolution having a 600 BST. Tyranitar and Metagross are exceptions because they don’t have the dragon typing, so Lucario, Silvally and the others can’t be pseudo legendaries and Haxorous doesn’t have a BST of 600
Just leave the dragon type thing out if it doesn't match the group. It's just 3 things:
1. 600 BST
2. Slow levelling group
3. 3-stage evolution line
The dragon type hasn't been a qualifier since gen 2, and for 2 gens, half the pseudos weren't dragon type.

So that accounts for around 70 million people for starters.. And it's probably safe to say that the rest of the world was the same too 👍

When speaking Generations, not only the time of release plays a role, but also the gameplay mechanics. If HGSS were Gen 2 there would be no abilities, no natures and no physical-special-split. If FRLG were Gen 1, there weren't even steel and dark type attacks or pokemon.
