    The Tango 2, as a concept, has been growing on me. A full function radio that is small yet still feels light in the hands. With other ergonomic changes and a tiny yet effective screen, its over all brilliant. True tho that as a plane guy I like my trim tabs and just got rollers that I’m excited to use, but for the price point and reported capability it seems pretty boss.

    Yup, they definitely got the compact design right. I think a little wider would have been better, maybe 1/2 inch as I'm a hybrid pincher. But after a few packs getting used to & adjusting to it, I love it! My poor ol' X9D got the silent treatment. I opted for Standard over Pro as they're identical except for the gimbles which I feel the foldable gimble sticks are subject to wear & tear issues.
    It's gonna save so much space & weight when travelling 😍

    Great honest review Joshua, The main reason I bought a Tango 2 was the fact that it came with Crossfire built in and it was small. When I'm flying my planes I always use my Futaba TX but I did not like the size of it for flying Quads, so when the Turnigy Evolution came out I thought great just the size I need for quads, and I really liked the little thing.
    However it wasn't long before I wanted a long range setup so I picked up the Nirvana. Now I looked at Crossfire but wow the prices where crazy, so I when for the R9M setup and got myself a load of R9mm receivers and never looked back because it's such a great TX and I never had any problems with it (lucky ! ) apart from I was right back to where I started a bloody big radio, but this time now I had the weight from the module on the back and a separate lipo to power it.
    So that's why I got the Tango 2 as soon as I sew it I new it was the TX for me, Small and very well made and comes with the Crossfire built in. As soon as I got it I picked it a bunch of TBS Nano's and started to rip out my R9MM's and I have to say I'm loving the Tango 2.. As for my Whoops well I still use the Turnigy Evo for them.
    However when it comes back to my planes I will always stick with Futaba. Well have to go now I have a load of R9m gear and a Nirvana to post on eBay.

      its a good point, you don't know how awesome micros can be.

    • @kelinryan8222
      @kelinryan8222 4 года назад +3

      Another point is the cost of crossfire. I'm glad you can afford it. But crossfire Rx's are twice the price of normal rx's for micro builds. And you will never fly a whoop or micro more then than a few hundred ft away. So paying $40 a Rx compared to $10 is a deal breaker for most people that don't have deep pockets.

    • @420fpv8
      @420fpv8 4 года назад +7

      @@kelinryan8222 i think thats bollocks. The people with shallow pockets you refer too only grudge paying $30 for a receiver because they already splashed out for 10+ micros and cant justify spending the extra on crossfire receivers. If your sensible and only have 1 whoop like me then you only need one. I struggle to believe anyone in this hobby has pockets deep enough for multiple whoops but cant afford a $30 receiver, its just the perfect excuse to avoid buying into TBS.

    • @kelinryan8222
      @kelinryan8222 4 года назад +2

      @@420fpv8 I disagree completely. I love TBS for long range and it has its purpose for sure. But most people in this hobby have frsky, or other raidos and yes some have crossfire modules mostly for long range and bigger quads. Most whoops come as a bnf version. In frsky freesky spectrum but most don't have a TBS version so that means buying the whoop and an additional Rx to solder in If you only have crossfire. Also I have more then one whoop like alot of us cause it's fun having races in the basement with your friends. And I bought them all bnf frsky so why would I want to change them? Also it's easy to justify and own more then one whoop at $100 each and get a new quad, instead of $30-40 and only getting a receiver.or even why add and additional 1/3 cost. I love being able to add a module to the back of my radio and having the option crossfire if I want. But again it's added cost and not needed for most builds when I don't need the range.

    • @scootroter4859
      @scootroter4859 4 года назад

      @@kelinryan8222 Yeah, no buying the great XM+ receiver for $13 and using it on almost everything! Sure, if you only fly 3" and above the Tango 2 is great, if you only have a few drones and don't mind paying a ton for each receiver! You have to say HELL NO to any micros! Plus, buying a BNF or RTF is almost a thing of the past....yes, a few come as a crossfire option, but just a few.

  • @waynependrigh4669

    I fly in a very mountainous area with noise at a reasonably high level. I have tried and used UHF, R9 and Crossfire. The only unit that has never had a fail safe is crossfire. I have just given my R9 equipment away due to no having faith in it. I have been able to purchase a Tango 2 and use it with Eagletree Vector for relatively long range ( 5 km) and have yet to have any issues. Also it is fair to mention that I did have an issue with the Tango 2 SD card installed. The support desk (Mike) was fantastic with options and we sorted the issue. That has done it for me. Im sold, it is a great product line that could save you lots of dollars in the long run and this is coming rom a guy that has seen planes (2 off ) simply fly away.

    Finally, at 20 minutes or so, after drooling all over the Tango 2 and it's joysticks, you come to the point; it only does Crossfire. I bought the Jumper T16 Pro exactly for this reason. The same reason I don't care what radio Trannis, Spektrum, Flysky, or any one else comes out with. I'm not getting locked into one companies protocols. Access is just a pain in the ass, Spektrum still thinks it can charge whatever, and TBS and Rapididfire and Gopro and DJI all want you to only buy their products, and shut everyone else out. They can all collectively kiss my rear. I still give the review a thumbs up, and the radio is a great design, with some true innovation. Too bad its proprariaty.

    My favourite radio. I use it 90% of time. The only thing I miss on it is a knob or slider for throttle scaling, but I can always go to smart audio...
    Also now, that Tracer is here, it would be cool to see a Tracer version of it, or even 2in1, but with two modules and antennas it would no longer be so compact...

  • @dash8465

    I got a pro and love a lot it... size, feel, portability, battery, folding sticks feel very good and allow it to slip into the slot in my thinktank formerly occupied by my Fatsharks, now the DJI goggles go where the X9D/Lite used to be, win-win. It is sooo freaking nice to not lug around a big tx...
    But as I put more and more time on it I've come up with a wishlist:
    - Fix some programming quirks, none are significant but there's more than a couple - no highlight for enter/exit during bind, XF Nano menu has a refresh issue, etc... for the price it doesn't quite feel finished (and I guess its technically not until its "fork" is absorbed)
    - Reverse the scroll wheel, mine works backwards... scroll down to go up, up to go down, hunh? And dump the wheel entirely on v2.
    For next version..
    - Larger screen, just a bit.
    - Up to 1W.
    - Replace the larger push switches with slide-to-click switches or something else thats nowhere near as easy to accidentally push.
    - Replace the ornery scroll wheel with 3 simple buttons, it works and we're used to it.

    My x9D plus gave up yesterday. I was looking for an alternate. I am not a joystick person so I felt this has a different ergonomic not meant for me. Went for T16 pro. Hope I made the right choice!

    I am a total beginner, ready to upgrade from my Tinyhawk 2 RTF. My ultimate goal is to fly long(ish) range cinematic FPV. I dream of having a set up I can carry with me hiking/backpacking/snowshoeing and get some great shots. I’m currently considering the Geprc Cinequeen with Tarsier duel cams. It even comes with a Crossfire Rx BNF option! The compact size and the built in Crossfire is what is attracting me to the Tango 2. I am thinking I could also pick up a BetaFPV LiteRadio2 for when I add non-Crossfire rigs for closer range flying. Even with the two separate purchases I’m still at about a bit over $200 (I’m not interested in the Pro version) and will have two compact Txs I can throw in a bag or pack for a trip, depending on my needs. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!

    Is that a trainer port on the bottom or is it just audio? If it had PPM out, there are some multiprotocol modules that accept PPM in. You use stick commands to select the protocol. Of course, you'd have to find a way to power it and, those modules don't typically have great range.

    Nice job jb! I agree with everything and yeah, why not a module bay or even pins or anything. The ability for some to use mp or full cf over .5$ of plastic and a few pin holes sounds like a huge mistake and will cost them alot I think. I'm looking for a new radio and love the idea of built in cf but I've built trust in the frsky 2.4 for racing and have been held up by alot of pilots struggling with Cf on the line. So yeah this is a deal breaker. It's the same shame that I cant fly anything but hd birds with my dji controller. I'm tired of lugging around 2 sets of goggles and controllers just to fly all my birds.

    the only thing missing from this radio now is a volume control - Ive tried various open TX programming different switch settings to control volume (sticks, roller, etc) but they need a dedicated potentiometer for volume IMO - still a near perfect radio

    Josh I have the jumper T12 and tried setting it up in liftoff but having problems trying to get the sticks to settle in the calibration is it better to use the phono plugged in to the mic jack or better to use usb to phono connection I don't have any problems when using my freerider everything it's completely solid and stable but on liftoff throttle doesn't stop at 0 throttle and slightly rolling lol and not getting full control of the sticks and finding it hard to keep in the air hehe I can even get the chance to rip round your yard & house and freestyle in your garden and see if your looking out your window watching me rip up your yard pmfsl :-D

      The phono connector will always introduce a ton of jitter in the signal. The T12 should be able to plug directly in to USB on your computer since it runs OpenTX. It will pop up a dialog box asking whether you want mass storage or joystick. Pick joystick.

    Sorry a noob question. if i use 1200MW hack on the dji radio. Will that mean that it will have a better range than my Tango 2 ?
    I watched some videos and i thought the main reason for Tango 2 is a better range? doesnt Tango 2 have max 500MW?

    I've seen oh so many videos about FPV during the last weeks. Eventually, I've started trusting your videos more than the others. While watching this, I was on a website, found on google, called "fpvknowitall.com", and suddenly, ten minutes ago.. I've started having a strange feeling.. Because everything you were saying was matching the webiste.. mmhh.. clicked on "Contact me", I've even recognized your house garden, and then the email.. Joshua!! :D This is how little internet is.. oh right let's be fair, you're doing a great work. Now I know to who I can send my email full of newbie questions!! :D

    Fantastic review, Joshua! 😃
    To be honest, I didn't like the trim switches either, but the fact that I couldn't put a multiprotocol module into it... Well, that's the deal breaker for me. 😕
    Anyway, I'm going to stay with my X9D and as soon as I can I'm going to get the Crossfire micro module. 😊

    I think I really like that transmitter. I do prefer using in-flight adjustments for pid tuning which eats up about 3 switches, so that might be cramped, but i bet i could get it. probably wont buy one though, my old spektrum is still working fine.

    is it possible to bind say the tango 2 and another radio with crossfire bound to the same quad? or do you have to rebind when swapping between them

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      Crossfire supports multi bind which let's 2 radios bind to the same receiver. But setting it up is a pain.

    I have a qx7 and a x-lite i got for its size. Since then i got a crossfire micro. so far ive not found a converter that i feel comfortable plugin in and out all the time. i have a multi protocol module that lives in their, and just use the qx7 with the crossfire. . . I think im gonna get one of these. I didint really like the look of it, i thought it looked like a toy, but i would like to have something small that i can use with crossfire, thanks josh

    The one thing you didn't mention, which has been said in other videos, is the screen size. For some people, screen size is important for running custom Lua scripts, telemetry displays, GPS info, etc. Obviously for a small radio such as the Tango2, you can't have a large screen. So, like you said, this radio is not for everyone.

    • @KrotowX

    Josh, i live just south of Macon, Ga. I am chomping at the bit to get into fpv quads (i currently only own a mavic mini). I really appreciate your no nonsense style of video. Thank you for the wealth of info you provide the layperson, like myself. I will be purchasing my first fpv set up within the month (tax monies to the rescue). I wondered if you knew anyone in my area that i could link up with/pester in order to learn a bit more from direct first hand experience. Would absolutely even be willing to make a trip up to Knoxville if you're ever hosting an event in your neck of the woods. Thanks again for all you do. -- Josh S.

    Them three position switches look like they would have been easier to reach if they were turned 90 degrees. So that you move in and out to operate them instead of front to back.
