@@tuluantran6891 yea but i feel like tyreal took sanctury under his wing for inarius as his friend. Even tho he may have not see eye to eye when they parted.
So Inarius (who they hyped up for months) gets wrecked in cutscene without even putting up a fight. Lilith (who they also hyped up for months) dies without even really accomplishing anything. Rathma (who is the first angel/demon hybrid) also just dies off screen with absolutely no real impact on anything and then the end of the game is some lady walking off with a soul stone of a prime evil and we all know how well THAT worked out the last time it happened and OMG big surprise Mephisto was just manipulating you all the entire time (exactly like diablo was in diablo 3). Blizzard really can't write a story to save their asses anymore can they.
I am disappointed too. I mean, where are they going to make it from here. I was hoping for Lilith because she made her case and she had answers. What is going to happen now, just keep fighting the same villains.
The story is pretty much circling back to where the player has to fight the 3 prime evils once again. And our Dark Wanderer for the story is just a little girl
See I had an inkling this is where it was going after playing the beta which is why I cancelled the pre-order. They are prepping this game into a micro transaction nightmare. It's not worth my money.
I see these comments all too often. Yet the reality is to get this* kind of quality cinematic takes a lot of time and that's a lot of money paid to perhaps the top tier talent in that field. To make an extra 1 and a half hour version of this would take so much more time and money --- that's a huge risk when there hasn't been a great track record for video game movies turning profitable. Granted some of that is due to bad adaptations, but the WoW movie was the one attempt to see if there was an appetite, and I imagine it broke even.
Part of what makes them great is that they happen naturally as you play through a game, sitting and watching a full length movie is different. Something like that. I could just be an idiot.
shame the story they tell is so bad, like 99% of the movies as well so it is not any loss tbh. I heard the game is good, but the story they tell with this cinematics is terrible....
At literally every moment I was willing to switch sides. Our character choosing to kill Lilith makes sense given what he knows, but from the outside, all I can think is, “damn she made so many good points”.
Lilith made some good points but overall, choosing either Inarius or Lilith were the wrong solution. Both wanted to use humanity to further their own agendas and considered humanity a crude yet useful tool at worst or a pet at best. Do remember that when Lilith killed all the renegades but Inarius were partly due to her maternal love yeah, but also due to wanting to use the Nephalem as an army to beat both Heaven and Hell and being exterminated before performing that function was a big nono for her. Both of them either lie or twist the truth when it favors them, just that Inarius doesnt bother too much to hide that hes an arse, specially after enjoying Mephisto's "atentions" for three thousand years
@@masterblaster5186yeah they lie and use you just like real parents do shocker, it made them REAL they had actual motives and intentions beyond the eternal conflict, however choosing lilith IS the right choice, inarius only wanted to regain the favor of the high heavens while lilith wanted to end the eternal conflict or at the very least prevent the eternal conflict from ever stepping foot inside of sanctuary again
@@surr3ald3sign And Lilith wants their army of Nephalem to conquer both Heavens and Hell ending the Eternal Conflict with her as the supreme ruler, or were you thinking that when she killed everyone but Inarius was only due to maternal instincts? Lilith cares for humanity same way a person may care for their house pet but in the end humanity is expendable if it gives her what she wants, even her own son's death only caused her a modicum of grief and she weaponized it later against Inarius during their final fight
Diablo 4: Story of a bitter divorce ending with grandpa hatred taking our lil sister out fishing; because dad killed our distant sibling, then mom killed him, then we killed mom
So, the Diablo Wiki, whoever updates the lore in it needs to remember that it was “GAMECLIPS” who teamed up with Mephisto, who defeated Lilith, who… etc.
Diablo 2 happens: Tyrael discovers that Izual taught the prime evils how to corrupt soulstones and the worldstone, and that 'trapping' prime evils inside of soulstones is EXACTLY what they want to have happen. Diablo 3 happens: Tyrael recreates the horadrim and teaches them everything they need to know about protecting Sanctuary from the burning hells. Also, black soulstone shenanigans cause problems! Hahaha, such a surprise. Diablo 4 happens: Tyrael somehow failed to mention to Lorath that putting prime evils inside of soul stones IS A REALLY BAD IDEA 100% OF THE TIME.
There's moment of brilliance in this story, Lilith being one... But the idea that we'd do *anything* a prime evil says and take their word for it instead of listening to Lilith; The being who literally created our character's world: Is just beyond me.
This is just the copy of the story from the Bible. We disobeyed God, the creator of this world, and did what Satan had said. And this story keeps going on. Now we do anything the fallen angel says. 😇 So, this story is neither new nor unique
@@jeremysparkman1389calling Mephisto a man is quite a stretch don’t you think? They also don’t listen to him. If you actually beat the game you’ll find this out.
I like how I'm watching some of these cutscenes thinking something is "off" and later realizing it's the actual gameplay graphics being used as cutscenes, often transitioning into boss fights or the next chapter of gameplay and such. Definitely comes off as more immersive but at the same time it's kind of a shame there's only two actual "cinematics" from the looks of it.
Yes a bit disappointed, Blizzard always had some of the best pre-rendered CG in their games. Even if you look at Diablo 1 + 2, that don't look that great anymore by todays standards, at the time they were really cool. While the game engine CG isn't too bad, it doesn't even come close to the pre-rendered stuff.
That's basically the point. Doable has always been a cycle. You can never kill the evils just lock them away for a bit. It fits with the gameplay loop of seasons if there was an actual end then there wouldn't be a game last the first lol.
I swear... if I have to.... endure any more... of these... trademark... Blizzard... "dramatic" pauses... every two... words, I'll... develop... asthma myself
Love how they talked up Lilith as a complex villain and the first thing she does is start a murder orgy. Sure, sure, she's a demon. But a murder orgy is still a murder orgy. Shouldn't have expected anything less tbh after they apparently thought giving her one blue eye was somehow a grand step towards humanizing her.
The fact that they would try to humanize her at all is amazing to me. The only reason that I'm glad she's defeated at the end isn't because she's the villain, or because she had some grand evil plan, but because she just wouldn't shut up.
For many of the players I think the cleavage is going to do far more to make her sympathetic. The scene where she finds her sons corpse is a good one though
Thanks, if no one else has said this yet, for taking the time to play/edit these all down to give everyone the opportunity to see the story before playing. Saved me some decision making, time, and money, so i appreciate the effort. ❤
@@Arberin Beyond going back to rewatch some gorgeously animated cutscenes, what other reason is there for anyone to watch this other than they wanted to know the story of the game without having to play it? Why are you here, if not for either of those reasons?
@@ParagonOblivion thats why I watched. Blizzard can still make some cool cutscenes, but I havent played their games in years. just not the same Blizzard I loved in the 90s.
Diablo lore has always been remarkable with these cinematic cutscenes, birth of Lilith with that blood cape, astonishing brutally beautiful ! 41:48 the agony of mother brought inarius the fate he deserved.
Yeah they basically undid all the work that happened in 2 and 3. The primeevils will comeback heaven still doesn't give a shit about sanctuary. They could've made it so that in the 5th installment we would be fighting against both heaven and hell but no they just did a reset
Lilith is my personal fave Diablo villain. She has so much depth, her interaction with Inarius before his death, hoping the man she loved was still in there, was so interesting. Sadly the most well written villain was very wasted. We should have ended the game working with her. Teaming up with her to protect Sanctuary. It would have been so interesting if we worked with her and taught her ways that do not involve corruption.
Lillith has been railed more than a coked out nympho cheerleader for the football team, but she's at least not as bad as the Prime Evils. Still wouldn't call her good for humanity though. She's happy to corrupt them into doing her bidding. Just look at the Uldyssian era.
Teaming up with a demon whose idea of protecting the world is culling everyone she deems weak basically turning sanctuary into a 2nd hell doesn't seem like a good idea.
She was truly horribly wasted. Such a well-developed and compelling character, not to mention badass. The way she walked, the way she talked. Such power, yet... so tragic, in a way. Man, I just wanted to abandon my dumbfuck "allies" and join her, instead. So much potential for a fantastic and compelling narrative about how personal convictions matter, regardless of whether you're an angel or a demon, and have our Mother help save us. They've been pushing quite hard to show us how the heavens are not really much better than the hells anyway. Sadly Blizztard's writing ends at "demon bad mkay you will kill demon and like it lol".
It's like Lilith and Inarious were having a relationship argument. Lilith was so calm and articulate, but she showed a lot of frustration and emotions when she was ripping off his wings. It was almost like an angry ex-girlfriend.
well she did try to talk him down and he just straight up stabbed her. If i was lilith i'd do the same, at least she didn't chain him and torture him, straight up killed him and he can finally be at peace
Proper black widow couple's exchange - he stabbed her in right spot with his "spear" and she put him out of his misery... lesson learnt - don't fuck with the black widow women🤣
He was doomed to begin with. I felt bad for the legion who followed him more. Just when it seemed like they're winning, Inarius fcked up and they all died in the end.
@@dlonesurvivor3604 He never cared for them lol he even called them abominations. The dude was selfish as hell from the beginning ..... first he leaves his bros and sisters fighting Hell for tasty demon pu$$ then when that demon pu$$ and the children they made are not fun anymore, he wants to go back to the same angel siblings he left behind WHILE using the children he hates and calls abominations as pawns and a means to that end. You think the knights were ever gonna get out there alive or ascend to heaven? I think they must have been outnumbered at least 5:1 in a hostile territory with super hot temperatures, lava showers while wearing ultra heavy armor and a super long supply line that would probably be cut off in the rear and flanks, and then overrun. The phalanx was only going to hold up for so long.
This was such a big waste. I had my hopes up that Lilith and Inarius would team up to defend Sanctuary against Heaven and Hell given they always wanted to escape the great conflict. That would make them really interesting characters and give the story a sense of progress. But no, Inarius is just a Crybaby who is ready to kill his wife and child just to rejoin Heaven which he left long ago and who let him be trotured by Mephisto. (By the way how did he even escape. I thought that would be a big plot point given we saw him chained in the first trailer. It would have been cool if Lilith or the Humans freed him, but no.) And Lilith is just some evil we have to stop. They took literally the most generic root. And by the way dont Angels and Demons not just respawn? If so really nothing changed in this world making it even more pointless.
My question is why was he expecting help from High Heaven? How Inarius didn't realise it when he was imprisoned by Mephisto in hell. The High Heaven had already abandoned him plus they put him there to be tortured by Mephisto. And then he came back only to get screwed up like that.
Lilith will return in the hells, but she will be trapped there. As for Inarius..no. his essence will return, true, but the angel born won't be him. Thing is..the Heavens are practically the hells now.
100% was thinking they would team up. Because it would've been a unique dynamic. I was hoping she would persuade Inarius and tell him, that heaven would never accept him and he would realize his mistakes. And I was hoping they would be a twin final boss, where they combo together. Not that Inarius would be a big cry baby, and suddenly want to turn back to heaven. From all we know of him in lore it makes no sense at all, his ego/pride would have never allowed him to crawl back to heaven after all his mistakes.
What an interesting concept if they had Inarius and Lilith as defenders of Sanctuary and helping the players. Again, wasted opportunity of character development. They did those two dirty. 😢
Ah, so they can't be satisfied with $90 CAD up front to deliver a full story. That makes sense. I can forgo buying this for another 20 years, once everything is on discount.
Man Mephisto really knew what to say to get out alive. Had Lilith actually gotten his power Sanctuary would have been totally fine. After all she made it and had no intention of destroying it. Only turning people into warriors to be able to challenge both heaven and hell. Thats not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

Elias is the best character conceptually, design-wise and story-wise. The opening cinematic featuring him was what "sold" us Diablo 4. He deserves much more than his untimely death. His skills/spells were so underwhelming, it was way too easy beating him. His immortality secret should *NOT* have been discovered in Diablo 4. He should have vanished in dusts upon losing that final fight only to re-appear in epilogue to scheme a new unholy cosmic / inter-dimensional war on resurrecting villains/antagonists from the previous Diablo universe. Blizzard could have done so much with his character. What a shame. What a loss.
He was a weak and forgettable generic sidekick villain, the fact you think of him as some epoch defining genius character is just an example of how utterly awful Blizzard’s storytelling has been for over a decade now The bar couldn’t be any lower
To be honest, Lilith had the best intentions she thought of while Mephisto took advantage of humanity's desperation and confusion. Humanity ended up repeating the cycle and fucked everything up again.
Lilith: "Come with me and finally be freed of this demonic bullcrap by overthrowing the demons themselves!" Mephisto: "Lolno just keep everything in its miserable state the same." Players: "Alright grandpa Mephisto, we totally trust you because you're now a doggo." Neyrelle: "Dafuq kind of stupidty did I just witness?"
That dramatic, sweepingly epic and orchestral introduction was better than literally every horror movie in recent memory bar a select few. I'm not much of a gamer, so can't speak on that, but I'd buy a movie ticket to this any day of the week over some of the drivel coming out of Hollywood these last few years.
You are pretty lucky to not know the context of these cutscenes, because it's pretty much Blizzard taking a big dump on the core characters of the setting, Hollywood-style.
Really? Do you guys mean that the gameplay or the other cut scenes? Does the gameplay really change things so much that even on its own the cinematic is ruined?
There wasnt even a fight at all. I stab you, you stab me. Why did Inarius think stabbing the daughter of a Prime Evil in the stomach would kill her? When she just continued to yap the whole time? I guess he though everyone was as weak as him since one stab completely incapacited him.
@@zippo718 So its believable that a Prime Evil can kill an Angel with one stab but an Angel can't kill a Prime Evil with one stab? You missed the entire point of the cinematic, Inarius stabbed Lilith and Rathma for the approval of the Heavens, but the Heavens will never forgive Inarius for creating Sanctuary.
@@zippo718 To be fair, weapons like that were made in Heaven- so chances are it would be as effective against her as any ordinary spear is against a man. Also, he was going downhill from a mental standpoint, and also fighting her inside of one of Hell's darkest of places, so he probably wasn't thinking straight and thus didn't consider that the location and the wound he inflicted would lead to her being wounded, but still dangerous.
@@Nalera782 What's fucking retarded is that Inarius, who in his own words ''Rambled like a fool'' against the Heavens and the Eternal Conflict when he first met Lilith, sought Heaven's approval in the first place. He escaped from them. They then turned him over to Hell to be tortured by Mephisto in the most brutal way (placed in a mirror dimension with his eyelids torn off so he was forced to watch his skin and wings being peeled away in agony) until he died and somehow escaped. So he was betrayed by Heaven, and brutalized by Hell. He hated both factions even before that. Imagine now. And who's the only neutral party here? Lilith, whom he loved so much he vowed never to harm her, and kept to that vow twice even when he could've killed her, instead locking her away in a void, both to get her out of his way without hurting her, as well as to protect her from Heaven and Hell. How is the logical step in his journey to become a simp for Heaven and betray his vow to Lilith for them? He should despise them way more than before. He should've rejoined Lilith immediately upon being set free, because Lilith goes against Heaven and Hell just like before, and he should want to more than ever himself. This writing was dogshit.

To everyone who can play, please do so with great respect as it is something worthy of applause.
The biggest missing thing about all of this was...... *Tyrael.* (I wanted to see a conversation between him and Inarius during the story. Aside from that...... BRING BACK *ANGEL FORM TYRAEL* PLZ!!!)
Blizzard should play some pathfinder wrath of the righteous and learn how to write angels. On the grand picture, writers simply lack knowledge, culture and understanding to write good and appealing stories. After being a DIE HARD Diablo 2 fan for literal decades, I felt like nothing would ever compare again. Diablo 3 had solidified that feeling. It felt like the final nail in the coffin for the Diablo series after a long, long wait hoping and praying for the best. Enter Diablo IV. This game restored my faith quite a bit. The story line is AMAZING, much like D2. I found myself watching every cutscene, wishing there would be more. The gameplay has that dark, eerie vibe that feels like the first two games. The soundtrack is also reminiscent of d2, from powerful and angelic to ominous and terrifying depending on what you’re doing in the game. Like I said, for me personally it was a very high bar set by D2. This game did not disappoint.
I heard his voice in this and while playing final fantasy 16, also watched the pope's exorcist last month and he was in that too! A hard working and talented actor
They should’ve had double the amount of cutscenes and I would’ve liked Inarius’ character to be fleshed out more. The story feels like wasted potential and it's underwhelming.

Ikr! He was easily the best written character in Diablo before this... Richard A. Knaak (writer of the Sin Wars book series) is facepalming so fucking hard right now I bet. He made Inarius and Lilith a fantastically written and dynamic duo of an unlikely love that managed to be stronger than anything else, and then they do... this... to that writing.
Only praise I can give is the character of Lilith for being consistent with her story. Yeah, her methods are crude, sometimes downright evil but it's all to protect Sanctuary from the eternal conflict... And in the other corner you have Inarius who basically cheated on the heavens with a demon one time and got banished/ostracised for it and now he's desperate for their approval. Kinda meh how they both went out without much of a fight or big impact, but then again, so did the archangel in diablo 3 who fought femdiablo and got slapped. But yeah, totally agree with everyone in the comments... They are just re-doing D1 and D2 with the main baddie being Mephisto instead of Diablo. Lazy writing
all this shit is now is lazy writing they hardly ever do the voice acting or writing justice ...i could have been sooo much darker an more realistic, it was almost woke lol

Even after setting up cults to try and manipulate Uldyssian and the Edyrem towards their differing goals, they kept that vow. Inarius banished her twice rather than hurting her. Even when they drifted apart because of their different intentions, their love held. But he hears a prophecy that he can rejoin his betrayers and re-enter that which he sought to escape most if he just breaks his one and only vow to the one thing he loves most in life, and he just immediately goes stabby mode on her? I'll repeat: B R U H He should've spat on that prophecy. He shouldn't WANT to rejoin the Angels. He despised them. He should still despise them. When did he suddenly stop loving Lilith? Last interaction they had was when she was on her knees helpless after cheating on him with a Nephalem she tried to array against him (successfully), and he still refused to harm her. Him going against her now came outta nowhere.

I am disappointed too. I mean, where are they going to make it from here. I was hoping for Lilith because she made her case and she had answers. What is going to happen now, just keep fighting the same villains.

True. I always wished for a Warcraft movie with Blizzard's CGI but instead we got that trash movie.
I agrees

So true. If we could explore evil angels, why not good or at least neutral demons.
Kerrigan 2
And then he came back only to get screwed up like that.
lol a chick being righteous? not likely.
This was Act 1 of their campaign. Acts 2-5 we’ll have to pay extra for in future expansions and battle passes over the next 2-5 years.

I've been playing Diablo since Windows 95 via CD, I've followed the story very closely since then, I haven't had the chance to read all the books, much less have a machine to play Diablo 4 unfortunately, but from what I've been able to follow in the cinematics, the Bllizard gave a more certain destination for the game, different from what was the 3rd, less colorful, less cute, Diablo 4 returned to the essences, much closer to the real terror that was the masterpiece: Diablo 1, the best of all. To everyone who can play, please do so with great respect as it is something worthy of applause.
The biggest missing thing about all of this was...... *Tyrael.*

Blizzard should play some pathfinder wrath of the righteous and learn how to write angels.
On the grand picture, writers simply lack knowledge, culture and understanding to write good and appealing stories. Blizzard (modern entertainment writers in general) is locked in writing the same things over and over again, with less quality every time
Your not kidding there writing really plummeted with Starcraft 2 as for entertainment it really has gone to the dogs.
It's because none of these writers have any life experience, or rather they all share the same experiences which is why everything feels like a carbon copy of everything else.
Gone is the tormented writer bringing greatness, instead replaced with banal writers who all produce the same bland, trite crap.

And rejoin the conflict he escaped, which is what he was so viciously punished for in the first place? BRUH. This conflict between him and Lilith was retarded. A prophecy? Over thousands of years of character and world building (literally, he made Sanctuary for the two of them) and love between the two? Really? They swore never to harm one another. Even after setting up cults to try and manipulate Uldyssian and the Edyrem towards their differing goals, they kept that vow. Inarius banished her twice rather than hurting her.
But he hears a prophecy that he can rejoin his betrayers who handed him over to his arch enemies for eternal torture if he just breaks his one and only vow to the one thing he loves most in life, and he just immediately goes stabby mode? Don't make me fucking laugh. This writing is atrocious!

Yes, Blizzard made D4 like a countryside clip, not a drama.

They should’ve had double the amount of cutscenes and I would’ve liked Inarius’ character to be fleshed out more. The story feels like wasted potential and it's underwhelming.
Never played this game ever but they should make a movie cause this shit go hard
To be honest, I love the Diablo lore, even though with the time and games they are kinda damaging it on some points, but I would love that Blizzard will take the step Riot did with Arcane and they release a series with the lore of Diablo, make 18+ and dont censore anything, it will brilliant imo

Ikr! He was easily the best written character in Diablo before this... Richard A. Knaak (writer of the Sin Wars book series) is facepalming so fucking hard right now I bet.
