You always do great videos. Wish I was your neighbor! What a great shop! Both my black boxes will not light up (status light) after about 18 months of use. I called Garmin and they gave me sort of a song and dance about the Nocqua batteries. I use four of them as you do. I don't parallel them to feed everything. I have never run out of power in a day of fishing. I keep the Panoptix separate from the Chartplotter and HD transducer. So I use the Nocqua switches to connect two batteries to each circuit. Today the Garmin guy told me that I need a car battery. As an engineer, I started asking him questions he couldn't answer such as, Why has this setup worked for 18 months and now doesn't work? How can that be a bad power supply? No answer. "We just need to troubleshoot before we replace your blackboxes." So I'm a little unhappy with Garmin right now. But I like your setup. It just looks a little difficult to deal with the upside down mount of the Panoptix box. Anyway, any comments on my power supply setup? What did Garmin say to you? BTW...great advice on the dielectric grease.
They replace my unit no questions asked. Warranty is a warranty plain and simple. The black boxes are rated to work with anything from like 8 volts to 32 volts so how could the Nocqua's ever hurt them. As long as the 4 nocqua's are wired parallel it should never have a problem. If you wired 4 in series that would be too much voltage and would be outside the range the black boxes are rated for. My replacement unit has had no issues and actually has a cleaner image than the original. If anything contributed to the failure I had I would say the extra vibration from being mounting in a yak vs a boat may have been the cause. Sorry for your troubles, it sound like the warranty cost are starting to eat away at Garmin and they are trying to cut the losses if they can manage to
The livescope box works much better on higher voltage...The best system I have found is the Dewalt 20v higher amp battery (5 amp or bigger)...the system runs much better on this and a breeze to change the battery (seelite adapter) One battery will last all day... Then run your screen on a couple of the overpriced Nocqua's
Great video. This helps a lot. I'm installing a 94sv with Livescope on my PA360. I'm using two 10ah Nocqua batteries with a smartlink cable. I hope that's enough power. I'm trying to figure out a way to make my black box removable.
Do you have a video or info on how you actually ran the wires through the hull. Since all of the connections are terminated with fairly large plugs, I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Thanks
Which thru hull kit did you use to run the wire that goes the the livescope box to the transducer? I bought some yak-attack but they are not big enough without considerable modification that may make them leak. Thanks!
Jessie I am upgrading my Garmin Striker 7” at the end of the season and was thinking of getting the new HDS eco map do you run the 7” or 9 “ on your Kayak ? I didn’t know is 9” would be to big thanks Jason
Thanks for the video. I'm having an issue the the 7.5 amp Livescope fuse blowing. I've replaced it at least 5 times. Garmin sent me all new wiring. I've changed out the wires and replaced my end connectors. The end connectors are crimped and heat shrink. No sign of corrosion. But the problem persists. The chart plotter and Livescope are connected to a dedicated deep cycle Group 21 battery. Can you offer any insight to this problem? I realize you aren't Garmin tech support, but you are a smart and innovative person. Your opinion would be much appreciated.
Hi am from the uk and so happy Knowing somebody knows what they are talking about I’ve got a Hobie revolution 13 that I’m going to do the same to but on the bottom Does not retract in mounting the transducer underneath will I have a problem
Jesse, quick question...how did you connect the larger single power wire from your four batteries to the power wires for the black boxes and chart plotter? Is it a single soldered connection with all the wires bundled together? Thanks!
So you can use 2 transducers with 1 screen with Garmin? I use non-network capable Lowrance currently although I know some of their units can be networked. I guess I have just assumed that the networking was so that waypoints would show on 2 screens where 1 is at the helm and 1 in front.
Yes using the Livescope you can. You can also have a transudcer hooked straight to the charplotter and then another one along with the Livescope networked in and switch between them
16 months worries me. I've had mine for 6 now. Is there anything you can think of that might have shortened it's life? Heat, operating temps, installation area , stuff like that. oh and great vids. I'm using some of your ideas for my boat setup.
If anything I would guess vibration. Being mounted in a kayak and doing the beach launching and overall rough situations that we subject them too would be the only thing that could happen to damage the unit.
I used a combination of standard Hobie thru hull plugs. Some of their 3 way plug kits along with some of the single kits. Some are not completely water proof, but seal well enough to not cause any major leaks
Hey Jessie. I’m installing in my outback. Did you run a ground from the Panoptix box? I’m hear you only need this ground if you have interference. Trying to determine if I need it or not.
@@SouthernReelsFishing Hi Jessie, I too have an outback and am setting up my livescope. Thanks for all the great content! I’ve modeled mine almost identical to yours. One question though, where did you connect ground from the livescope black box? I’ve done everything else, just getting stuck with how to run the ground.
After calling Garmin tech about my livescope suddenly acting as if you cut the gain down about 40% then after a few minutes it goes back normal and this happens about 30 times a day Garmin told me they think it is a power problem. I set mine up like you did except I was only running 2 10ah Nocqua batteries and never ran low on power but-------Garmin said the head unit and the livescope should not share power, livescope needs its own power so today my 3rd 10ah Nocqua batterie came in and it will be the dedicated head unit power source. Not really sure if this will solve the problem or not. Have you had any issues with your livescoope acting up while sharing power with your other components?
That is a interesting response from them. I have always shared power on all my components. Even in my boat the Livescope and all other electronics are running off the same battery. No issues like you are describing. This is almost funny, are they expecting you to have a completely separate battery for the livescope?! That is not practical at all. Sounds like a failing defective livescope black box to me... But I am not a "Garmin Tech lol"
@@SouthernReelsFishing Well just as we suspected adding a dedicated battery to the head unit did nothing to solve the problem. Waiting for a call back from Garmin support.

TomyTek Outdoors I’m running 3M Velcro. Holding tight thus far, however I have not tested extensively on water yet.

On the Live Scope black box I see a lot of you guys don't hook up the ground wire. Why is that?

Just use a Berley pro transducer shield
Where did you mount the transducer?
Jesse, quick question...how did you connect the larger single power wire from your four batteries to the power wires for the black boxes and chart plotter? Is it a single soldered connection with all the wires bundled together? Thanks!
Pretty much but mine isn't soldered. Just a heat shrink crimp connector with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion

What size wire did you join your 4 Nocquas too? I’m doing the same for my Echomap 94 SV and Livescope. Thanks
I believe it was 12 gauge, maybe 14. Either would be fine

@@calebbadley5125 Just ground to the negative wire for power feed from battery
How long can you run the livescope on just one of the 10ah batteries?
Maybe 2 to 3 hours
How much did u spend on your fish finder with the live scope
I was one of the early buyers, back then it was about 2300
