I'm not certain how some people are getting from this video that I'm leaving RUclips but...I never said that. I'm trying to wrangle other social media sites that I promote these videos on.
My goal was to write crafty things that needed to get done or that I wanted to try onto strips of paper. I added them into a fun container, so I want to stick with it.
Thank you, Sandy. I broke up with social media years ago. I am a crafter and have always loved you, but of course, life is life, and I've not done anything crafty in a few years. I've been taking care of some special needs kitties, and that is a full-time job. I just came across this video, and it has inspired me to get back what made me the happiest, which was cardmaking, so in 2024, I will be card making once again. Thank you, Sandy, and keep doing what you do. It feels my soul with joy, and I think we all need more joy in our lives. Happy New Year! 🎉

Last year I got rid of all of my social medias, except for instagram and youtube. It is SUCH a relief to feel that I don’t need to check everything every day. I just (finally) bought myself watercolour paints, a ceramic palette and watercolour brushes, so my goal this year is to learn, play around with and have fun with watercolours. In addition to watching videos on youtube and instagram, my late great-aunt was a professional artist, who has a piece in the National Gallery of Canada. A few years ago, a beautiful coffee table book was written about her and included several of her oil and watercolour pieces, including a few of my favourites. Although I’ve known about it for quite a while, I just bought it the other day and am looking at her watercolour pieces for inspiration as well.

You probably know about this already, but National Day Calendar site has a newsletter that tells you what "day" is happening--National Black Dog Day, sibling day, Brownie Day (the dessert, not the elves)...things like that. I find Instragram and Facebook too fleeting when it comes to follow the new and sometimes (in case I did not take time for one of the social media to follow up on news) most recent videos from you. I love the Patreon watercolor class idea! More people like me will be able to take a class\follow your in-depth tutorial. I can’t afford your other classes because I’ve had five spinal surgeries in the last 3 years and need more surgery, so I can’t work and I’m on disability which isn’t much. That being said, money is very very tight, but $10 I can save up for your patron class and some watercolor paper. I know this sounds sad/depressing, but please don’t be sad. Watercolor, art, drawing and learning makes me happy. Your monthly option of a Patreon watercolor class makes me really happy that I’ll be able to do that. You are by far one of my favorite RUclips artist. Your talent is just amazing.

Great idea to step back and reassess your social media presence. I currently just watch you on RUclips (not an IG user), but will try to also subscribe to your newsletter. Your video made me laugh out loud several times but I loved that you chose resolutions to make you happier rather than trying to make yourself more perfect (unachievable, but for most, isn't that the point of making resolutions?). I would add to the making of resolutions the opportunity to "hop back on the horse" after you've fallen off. The "breaking" of a resolution makes us feel like failures, but goals are to push us to go a little further than we would have otherwise. So I say, revisit the resolutions from time to time throughout the year. If you've strayed but want to get back to it, there is no one who will stop you (except your own negative self-talk). That horse will still be waiting for you. As always, thank you for sharing your heart!!

I really like watching people on here the best. I find Instagram and Facebook videos kind of hard to watch and don't like that they are hard to pause and replay just not effective if I'm going to try to paint along. I like to buy individual courses like on domestica. I'm feeling very over subscription-based memberships like skillshare. I end up just surfing around rather than committing to one class and all the monthly fees just add up so much and then I forget to cancel which is I think what they are counting on. Patreon is not bad but I think I'm already kind of maxed out on that. I'm a subscriber to a few creative people that I know in person and only a couple of art people that have a large Library for a relatively low fee level.
That’s why the meat of what I teach is in individual classes. My brain works like yours! Not to mention those sites barely pay anything. I had a class on one and they sent a happy email every quarter to tell me my $5.62 is on the way 🤦🏼♀️

No, I’ve talked about that in other pastel videos. I’m using mom’s old pastels, and none are labeled. So I honestly have no advice-I’m working by Braille myself.
Well done. I love your channel. I have recently bought a few "Adult type colouring books" and plan to start those. I know that's not sketching as you are encouraging but it's a start. ALSO, I find I need to be inspired to paint a picture/subject, do you have that issue too? If I try to paint something that I am not I spired by it will never come out as good as I know it should or it will never get finished. I have been wanting to paint a picture of my Grandson, he is nearly two years old but I have yet to see a photo of it that I could say "I want to paint that". My question to you is, do you have this problem and if so, what do you do to get around it. Kind regards Elizabeth

3:50 I hear this mostly from US RUclipsr: "getting yelled at" when someone makes an unflattering remark/critique. I never ever wrote a critique with shouting or harshness in my mind. Yes, we feel good about us when we get affirmations and compliments, but in my world the unflattering remark and critique is just as important. I don't mean an unqualified remark like "you can't draw," that*'s just unhelpful and shows that whoever made the remark is lazy and unsocial but I still think it doesn't measure up to yelling in real life. A very good friend taught me to be careful what I let in and sort out first who has the problem. I got much better in not nailing other peoples problems to my knee. I hear, I sort, and feel grateful when I receive helpful criticism, even if at first it might be hurtful.
When I say yelling, I don’t mean just a critique. It’s folks who yell that they can’t get to the class they bought (in all caps) only to find out they didn’t log in. It’s getting angry at me over their own issues.
@@SandyAllnock1 Thank you for explaining. All caps is considered yelling. And I can understand that better esp. since my first gut reaction to that would be, that there is a bug in my system and I waste time looking for it. So - good resolution and many finds while shopping that make you happy. :)

Sandy, I love your Content, everything you do is so pretty, so I signed up for a class. The Butterfly class. Never in my life for any site I have I had such a problem trying to get to a class, I established an account, signed in and round, and round we went. The only class I could get was the free one. Yes, of course I paid. And then I had to go to other sites and establish other accounts. Surely it can’t be this difficult what am I doing wrong? I really want to take that beautiful butterfly class! For me the daily sketches aren’t about good or inspiration. They’re practice. Lose the preciousness and just do it. 😛

Yes, we feel good about us when we get affirmations and compliments, but in my world the unflattering remark and critique is just as important. I don't mean an unqualified remark like "you can't draw," that*'s just unhelpful and shows that whoever made the remark is lazy and unsocial but I still think it doesn't measure up to yelling in real life.
A very good friend taught me to be careful what I let in and sort out first who has the problem. I got much better in not nailing other peoples problems to my knee.
I hear, I sort, and feel grateful when I receive helpful criticism, even if at first it might be hurtful.
When I say yelling, I don’t mean just a critique. It’s folks who yell that they can’t get to the class they bought (in all caps) only to find out they didn’t log in. It’s getting angry at me over their own issues.
@@SandyAllnock1 Thank you for explaining. All caps is considered yelling. And I can understand that better esp. since my first gut reaction to that would be, that there is a bug in my system and I waste time looking for it.

Those are separate because some people want email daily, others are overwhelmed 🥴

@@mkbuike7895 these are all separate sites. Artventure is on mighty networks and you can edit notification settings there. Sketches are on my fine art site, newsletter weekly is my main blog.
Sandy, I love your Content, everything you do is so pretty, so I signed up for a class. The Butterfly class. Never in my life for any site I have I had such a problem trying to get to a class, I established an account, signed in and round, and round we went. The only class I could get was the free one. Yes, of course I paid. And then I had to go to other sites and establish other accounts. Surely it can’t be this difficult what am I doing wrong? I really want to take that beautiful butterfly class! Can you help?
