I love those old western knives, I stay away from the leather handled ones… just because of rust.. So it’s just these black beauties or the wooden handled.. Great job I’ll be sure to check out your older videos.. I’m a Knife Guy from West Georgia (west of Atlanta).
Big camillus usa fan. ( Becker , Remington , and western).

I try to limit myself just a bit… limited space and resources … had a little side gig, going to support the knife habit. And it has fallen off. That ‘season ‘ looks to be over.
But just like watching Jay Leno review $500,000 cars …. I don’t have to own the vehicle to appreciate it’s characteristics and beauty.@@knifedelights7473

I bought a black beauty upswept skinner for $3.23 in 1964 , it’s a stick tang with black leather washers between aluminum washers . It once had Tree Brand and the iconic tree etched on the blade but no mention of western . It has a black leather sheath with a deer head . The only knife I have from my early days.

Wow, that knife feels familiar. I have to wonder if I or maybe Dad had one of those when I was young. Maybe it's just the handle styles. Regardless, thanks for bringing it back to life. Have a great and safe Fourth!!!

Nice find. I just found a “black beauty” in a shop about a week ago. In the process of cleaning it up. It’s the 48A. A little larger than yours, according to the add you provided. I’m on the lookout for a leather stacked handle as well.
These knives reminds me of when my cousins and I were kids. We would walk to the hardware store and wish we had enough money to buy one of the “beauties”. Thanks for the info.

For those concerned about the pH of saddle soap for cleaning old leather, you might want to check out Lexol. It is supposed to be pH balanced. I have used it on all kinds of leather interchangeably with saddle soap for years. I don't really see any difference between the two. Folks who wear, carry and use their leather goods every day may have a different experience. Lexol *might* be slightly better for preserving an old piece of leather that's going to be a collection piece rather than a regular use piece. I agree with Tom on the saddle soap pH and no magic leather dressing issues, and I've tried a bunch of leather cleaners and dressings. That said, I'm just some random guy on the Internet, so you need to let your own experience guide you.
