I found Utica also sold The USA Official Brownie Pocket Knife too. It was a single blade model in a Brown Box with Brownie on the box. Collecting Boy Scout and Girl Scout knives has a vast number of knives and models for collecting. They certainly are interesting to research and learn about. Thank you for sharing more about knives like these. I think everyone should have few of these in their collection. ✨😾✨🙂
I just went in and pulled out my knife drawer and thought I had a Boy Scout knife but it’s a Girl Scout knife. It’s 3 tools and they all open easily and snap close. Didn’t even know I had one. I am going to go over it tomorrow and oil it up.
The knife you show with the scale stripes going sideways (vs. lengthwise) is my knife, and it’s the only one with that pattern I’ve ever seen. Also, the green translucent celluloid knife from the ‘50s-‘70s came in two sizes, 3-3/8 and 3-5/8. I have several of both.
I have the featherweight with the master blade and pen blade and G-S on the shield, and it really is a light knife. The bolsters are aluminum which surprised me but you can tell it was manufactured strictly for cutting only. I found it at a garage sale. Cheers.😊
To answer your question about which disappeared first, the two-sided swage or the pin on the shield, the two-sided swage disappeared first. I have one that has the pin in the shield but it only has the swage on one side.
I didn’t know that the Girl Scouts had a knife. You have a really nice collection of them, very interesting history. I suppose it’s not surprising they look in better shape than similar vintage Boy Scout knives, girls may have taken better care of them than the boys 😂Thank you, Tobias!
i have a couple girl scout knives, a aluminium ultra lite and a regular steel framed ultra lite quite a bit smaller than the aluminium frame, i also have 5-6 utica schrade and another boy scout and cub scout pocket knives i have a western fixed blade scout knife and a plumb official boy scout hatchet
I have a green acetate handle with the downstroke can opener that was my mom's from 1949. I found they were first produced in 1946 not 1953. Maybe they had 2 models going?
i bought a kutmaster gs knife at a flea mkt. the bail was missing but the pins were still in the bolster. is there a bail i can replace or should i grind down the pins?
I’m not sure why they used this style of opener. It may have been because it was slightly more versatile for other uses. As far as I know Utica/Kutmaster did not make Official Boy Scout Pocket Knives.
How can I tell if I have a genuine Girl Scout knife? I have the shield but it doesn’t have GS at the top of the shield. It has the modern can opener and blank/brown scales.
The blade markings will often wear away. Most were made by Utica. The Best way is by looking at the shield. Not all of the say GS. Some newer ones have use the "trefoil shield" Kook up "Girl Scout Trefoil icon" and you'll see what it look likes. If you can get ahold of the book "600 Scout knives" it has a section on official Girl Scout knives that could also be helpful.
Tobias, I tried to leave a comment with some additional info on these, it was a bit lengthy not sure if YT took it down. Let me know if it came through.
Those boy scout & girl scout knives go for a premium. I think because of collectors, & investors, and maybe ex and current BS,GS. Are they still going after the scandals? I never was in the scouts. I don't know why, it sounds like everything I was into as a kid.
Must've been a slip. I have done so many videos on this pattern a knife, that I guess I failed to call out every tool. In this case, I was concentrating more on when the different versions were made. They all ad the same tools, main spear blade, awl/punch, Caplifter/Screwdriver, and Can opener.

Excellent history provided. Thanks for your quality videos.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
I have a couple of those ‘60s knives with the translucent green. Keep meaning to do a review.
Very interesting stuff! I knew literally nothing about girl scout knives until now. lol Thanks for all this great info, buddy!

I like those green handles on both.
Priceless knives. Awesome collection. I have not been seeing videos from you lately. Are you okay?
Thanks. I need to revisit this as I have a few more!
Thanks for the info Tobias. I learned a lot.

They would have had to pay imperial royalties to use that style of can opener before 1952.

Tobias, I wonder way use the blade style can opener when the claw style was out and in use. Did Utica use the claw style on their BSA knife.

I have a Brownie locking 1 blade knife its a Kutmaster
Why don’t you say what all four tools are?

Gheeesh" You shore' know Your history on knifes!!! 👍
"Kut" in Dutch is slang for the ehm... female reproductive parts. Just thought I'd share that. 😊
