    The joy of homesteading, where the only PTO is a part of a tractor rather than paid time off from work. I’d take the tractor any day lol.

    Watching this video reminded me of my grandfather, who used to come into the house from the fields covered in a layer of dirt. He would hold out his dirt and grease covered hand and say, “Wanna shake hands?” He would laugh when my sisters and I refused! When we got older, we would get just as dirty. Baling hay in square bales was the worst. You really do have to make hay while the sun shines! Sweating in the hot sun makes the dust and chaff stick to your skin, and any sunscreen you apply melts off within minutes, and gets into your eyes. I have been a dirty, sweaty, red-eyed lobster more times than I can count! Farming is not a glamorous occupation!

      Denise you are SOOOOO RIGHT and we are learning that everyday! I think that for our first 3 years living here we really just settled into the country life.
      But now we understand the seasons a bit more, and we are ready to WORK WORK WORK!!! 😁
      Thank you Denise!!!! Love that story of your grandfather!!! I hope to be that cool someday! 😁😁

    I'm so glad the rain came through for you. I'm guessing it's kinda how I feel when I finally get some blue sky and sun instead of all the rain. We had hens of our own, but I totally relate to your sister wanting blue eggs. My Son did some work on our friend's car, and she sent blue and green eggs from her hens. It was the first time I'd seen the colours in person, and they're just a thing of beauty. Female Birds: creatures with their own personal spray booth 😂

    I wish I could afford just a cheap wire fence on my property. It must be nice to have that wall fence on your property. You must be wealthy.

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  4 месяца назад

      Oh Wade!!! I am so so sorry. To be 100% honest Kelly recorded a full section about the giant wall and why it is there, but it made the video way too long and not really on topic. We will include that in a different video here soon.
      BUT! Long story short, no we are not wealthy. And we did NOT pay for that wall. Our old neighbor built it after a possible emergency of them flipping an off road vehicle over and the risk of injuring one of our kids.
      And that property was owned by a business….so I guess they thought it was cheaper to build something BIG and not be sued to the moon!! Haha. Which we 💯 agree!
      We will tell you the full story in a new video. Maybe even an extra mid week video!!!

    I have been fighting Bermuda grass for over 40 years! Obviously my backyard was a Bermuda grass lawn back in the 1950’s and 60’s. I moved to this property in 1979, the entire backyard was gravel. Over the years I have planted Citrus Trees and have some designated garden areas. Those Bermuda grass are over 4ft down in the ground! When they get the least amount of moisture, I have tons of grass runners! I pull them out and feed them to the chickens. But, I can’t seem to ever get rid of the Bermuda Grass!

    Ants. Diatomaceous earth, cinnamon. Depends on the circumstance. Same with mosquitoes, depends on circumstance. On porch plant various mints and others that are mosquito repellants.

      I just posted about this. Been in 34 acres for 4 years now. Covered head to toe. Gets way too hot. Yesterday the mosquitos bit through my gardening gloves! They are even in my house. I am not even close to water either. Use dunks, a fogger, and spray. But as soon as I plant, I can't use the fog or spray. It's horrible and ready to give up.
