This Camera will change the industry of hybrid Camera. So so impressive what Canon managed to pull from R5 sensor. I found from your test that ALL Sony a7siii are noisier in the shadows. I can't wait to receive my R5C and start my own testing with the camera. it will work along with my A7IV as my Combo setup

Thank you so much for this great tests 😀. Can't wait to get mine. The only downside for me is the sharpness in 120fps at 4k. What I will test when my R5C will come is, if FHD recording in 120FPS will also be soft and if 120fps is possible in cropped mode and if yes, if 120 fps cropped are sharper than from FF. Thank you for all this really good tests. The biggest win over the R5 is in my eyes beside the unlimited recording, the much cleaner black parts in the shadows when compared to the R5 when recording in RAW.

Thanks A LOT for showing the 1080p comparison! I'm a full time freelancer and for the platforms my clients publish on 1080 is used almost exclusively (those platforms are Facebook, LinkedIn and news shows for both broadcast and online in Sweden, Finland and Denmark).
Sure I sometimes use 4K for cropping potential or when it's for a more premium product that's going up on RUclips, but most of my work is really fast turnaround (most clients don't even want me to film in log so that the footage can be used straight from the memory card) so I film around 90 % in 1080.
I feel like many RUclips camera reviewers are somewhat blind to other use cases than their own and disregard even looking at 1080 quality and non-log (SDR) footage.
Anyway, for a long time I've felt that Sony has been the overall most sensible choice for investing in a hybrid camera system but the more I see from the Canon R5C the more it appeals to me (I'm planning for a long overdue switch from Nikon DSLR's for stills and a Canon C200 for video).

Thank you for this comparison video. I have a C70 and have been wondering why I have been getting such soft imagery and not as sharp as my friends who are using sony. I thought it was a dirty sensor, lens, you name it, but I realize (and after watching this video) that Canon is just more known for softer color science. I would like to know/learn how to maximize my camera and get a better more sharper image. Anytips?

again a remarkably concise and informative comparison. It is a pity that we don't have a side-by-side comparison with the Sony a7s III on the 100p high frame rate recording, because this is THE argument for getting the Sony camera over the Canon cameras.

Love to see R5 with Atomos Ninja V/V+ vs R5c. In part as potentially some R5 owners shooting with the Ninja may be interested in to seeing advantages/disadvantages/similarities or to what extent it levels the playing field between the two of these.
Being able to shoot Super 35 & 16, as well as all the different codects on the R5C however is amazing!

I own the R3 and the C70... I was ON the fence on what my run-n-gun camera should be... I had many options... the R5C (naturally having canon cameras), the new fuji, a7s3, the FX3, the Canon R6.
Well, because of your tests, I actually went with an odd option.. the Sony FX3. I LOVE IT.
Now I am going to have two setups... a small setup. The fx3 and A1, and a large setup the r3 and c70.
I have a HUGE HUGE HUGE ask of you guys. Could you guys do a R5c versus A1 comparison? Maybe through in an A7s3.

Carl, thanks as always for these informative updates and comparisons when it comes to the Canon R5C. They are very much appreciated. My question for you is, have you noticed a drop on contrast and saturation when working with the R5C, and have the colors been substantially muted or dulled down in the R5C? Again, thanks very much.

These deep dives are great! Super useful! but I’m still not sure yet which is the best choice for my hybrid work; a c70 and a used canon R or just the R5c- there’s not much in it once you add an nd adapter and the tascam audio unit. The nd’s and the clog 2 of the c70 are putting it ahead I think, but having just one camera do both feels like a great choice.

Great video and information, thanks for the hard work! Would love to see a comparison of R5 IBIS with RF stabilized lens vs R5c no-IBIS with RF stabilized lens…maybe on a 24-105mm @ 105mm? How much does IBIS really help a stabilized lens during a jittery shot? Also, on wide angles lenses such as RF 15-35mm, how does the lens-only stabilization look compared to the ‘wobbly’ IBIS on the R5?

Thanks for these tests. I didn't really consider that the high frame rates could become an issue, but realistically I might only end up shooting up to 60p on the R5c for fear that the 100/120 wouldn't match. Bit of an outlier comment but I'd like the ability to turn HQ mode off if I wanted to do a whole project that involved multiple frame rates. Then again some people call the 120 inferior on the C70, but I cut it into projects all the time and it looks great. It's interesting to note that in terms of sharpness the C70 doesn't compete, but for a beautiful organic and flattering image it's one of the best small cameras I've ever worked with. Nobody wants to sharpen the wrinkles on people's faces.

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  2 года назад

      Exactly, the C70 isn’t worse, it’s different.
And as for high frame rate sharpness matching I wouldn’t think it would be too much of an issue. People are used to high frame rates like 100p looking slightly softer, it’s still about as sharp as the C70 is normally for example.

@@ProAVTV One thing I’d love to see Canon do is add in higher frame rates in the Super 35 mode. If the camera is capable of a full frame, 8K readout at 60p, then surely a cropped 6K readout could reach around 96 or 100 given the faster readout. That would be a great compromise if going down to super 35 isn’t a for slow motion isn’t a big deal for you.

Better to have a camera that records equally on all frame rates, so I think the Sony and the C70 is a better option. I would never record 8K and then oversampled 4K 120fps in a project.
