- Brompton has made 1,000,000 Bromptons. The one millionth Brompton is being flown around the world and arrived in Los Angeles on October 14th. I was invited to join it, some Brompton employees, and a group of local enthusiasts on a 14 mile ride from Culver City to Santa Monica via the Ballona Creek trail and Venice Beach.
There were about 60 other riders in the group which made it a fun ride. I particularly enjoyed looking at how other owners have modified and accessorized their Bromptons. Mine was the only one with aerobars which got a lot of attention. I also enjoyed showing off my custom 3D printed parts.
My daughter has an apartment about 8 miles from the start of the ride and ten miles from the end. If you add in several miles of getting lost, trying to find the start of the ride, I got about 37 miles for the day.
I got to see several T-line Bromptons and they look fantastic. I also heard that Brompton might be working on a gravel capable version. Those of you who watch my channel know I like to ride my Brompton on gravel. If the gravel Brompton had a more rugged frame and 50mm tires that would open up a lot more possibilities. Exciting stuff!
I've been thinking about buying an e-bike for a couple of months and keep coming back to an electric Brompton. After talking to some of the electric Brompton owners on the ride, I confirmed I can carry a spare battery in my Vincita rack bag and swap them out easily to double my range. I can also remove the battery and replace the motorized front wheel with a spare front wheel I have and I'd effectively have a regular Brompton I can fly with. So tempting!
