Absolutely wonderful film.. simple life, fresh butter -homemade bread...a dying art for many... ahhh but we still have our kitchens waiting for us..standing and waiting for our hustle and bustle in them...much like a chapel at times to me, my mum and my nonna... hard work yes...but so many warm memories...my dears...your eye..and your talent is to be admired...best wishes to all entering your film festival! This was delightful! mamaM
I had heard from an elderly lady about the production of butter with this method, prepares his mother when she was a child .... but I had never seen in person, the procedure. Thank you for this video :)
life seemed so hard then but once you work in the real work and make everyone else rich you want to go back to the basics of farming and homesteading. great video. makes you appreciate what you can get from raw milk.
My granny says that is the type of churn she had, and I have only ever seen a sweet jar churn in action myself. Homemade butter has a very "farmy" taste to it. Only way I can describe it.
Lovely to hear from you JC. In the complete series of Yes, we are very grateful to David and Sally Shaw Smith for granting us permission to screen these short extracts online. In the Hands collection of videos there are 37 documentaries on traditional Irish crafts and lifestyles. All films are half and hour long. The director and producer of this series is still working away making documentary films. Wishing you all the best.
wyllieohagan... Can you give me a link to getting a copy of these Video's.. My father and oldest brother are in the stonecutter episode....In Trinity College !!
Lovely clip, but rather condescending of the commentator to describe her actions as "instinctive" and "inherited"! No need to minimise her skill and experience, surely.

Romantic Ireland is dead and gone and never coming back...

Thanks for the good wishes MML, wishing you all the best.
Good to hear from you LM, wishing you all the best.
People actually don't have to go through the lengthy process of making butter, but they did. A life lived with tasks.
You are right, these documentaries are so well made. Thanks for the comments:)

The next time I see a label “ made with “ real butter 🧈 “ i’ll know it’s a scam !
