That "Little offshoot " has some of the best camp sites on that trail. I like it because the sites are off the dirt road, and it gets a bit loud on weekends. But at the top during winter, it is windy and cold. The wind just funnels in, loud..really loud. Setting up a trip here in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks Chris this is the most under rated Tray mountain video probably because it doesn't include a jeep. Question. How long did the trail take you? Would you be doing more videos like this about other trails? New subscriber here.
The trail, considering I did a little exploring while on it, only took a few hours. It's definitely something you can go up and do in an afternoon with plenty of time to get dinner after. The other part of Tray Mtn. Rd. is still currently closed and is much more difficult when its open. This truck is my daily driver so I try to keep my offroading more tame than others but I am exploring the north GA trails one weekend at a time. I just posted a video that starts on Indian Burial Gap Rd. which is where this video ended. I didn't focus much on the trail itself though.
I’m taking my 2018 Titan XD this weekend, never been off roading, just wondering from the video, the west side is the easiest trail, what would you recommend for a beginner?
The western side is fine for a beginner that’s where I was in the video. I went down Indian grave gap rd to get back to pavement but you can continue north as well and get back to pavement farther north on Unicoi turnpike by going up to tray gap and heading left on Corbin creek rd. These are fun and not too rough for a beginner. My Tacoma is stock except for slightly larger tires (32”)
So far I’ve been using the Gaia maps app. It’s a good way to record where you’ve gone too. I’m using an iPad mini 4 and a Harmon Bluetooth GPS receiver.
