  • #TheOttomanLieutenant starring Academy Award® winner Ben Kingsley, Josh Hartnett, Michiel Huisman and Hera Hilmar.
A wartime story of a strong-willed woman Lillie (Hera Hilmar) who leaves the United States after meeting Jude (Josh Hartnett) an American doctor who runs a remote medical mission within the exotic Ottoman Empire. There, she finds her loyalty tested to both Jude and the mission’s sagacious founder (Ben Kingsley) when she falls in love with Ismail (Michiel Huisman), a Lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army. Set among the backdrop of World War 1 and tied together with epic battles and mind-blowing fight sequences, Lillie must decide if she wants to be what other people want her to be, or to be herself.

Most critics have this movie a low rating, but I actually thought it was well done. The acting was awesome!

Beautiful landscape, the power of love between Lillie & Ismael is very enjoyable to watch, they are perfect for each other. Ismael helped Lillie at the beginning but Lillie took care of Ismael at the very end, one of the best love story I've ever seen, beautiful actors, beautiful story.

Beautiful love story, and very good portrayal specially on the part of the lieutenant, the passion in his eyes looks just so real like it's not acting at all.

Yea well she picked the wrong guy. I mean Ishmail was not bad, not at all lol...but Jude...come on!! He was handsome, tall, caring, loving, aware and intelligent...not to mention they played on the same team lol. What was there not to love about Jude? I just don't see how she got all twisted up by the lieutenant on her way to be with Jude.🤨

@@CoBe22 What do you mean it doesn't matter where an actor is from? I wasn't talking about where they are from, I was talking about the same team saving patients in the hospital...really getting to know each other on a daily basis. Sharing their dreams and same attitude to make a difference in the world. I didn't care that Ismail was from Turkey. I just feel her and Jude were better matched in many ways. But like I said Ismail was good too but not over Jude. My opinion. Dr. Zhivago is a great film but it was a long time ago when I saw it and I don't remember much.

I disagree about Lillie's "choice" since Ismail had so many "differences" which would intrigue just about any (or every?) woman! (IMO!) --- Some obvious examples: Ismail's religion was totally opposite of her dedicated Christianity, different country, different culture, different attitude, etc, which concluded with his undeniable (and female weakening!) Sex Appeal, which she could not (and did not) ignore! --- Love for them was absolutely inevitable... regardless of the cost! ❤❤-- 04.24.23.

@@lindyloo5464 😄 Yes! He did have the sex appeal thing locked down lol. Altough I found Jude "equally" appealing in that way, and I loved his other attributes. His jealousy tho was a bit of a turn off but he looked at her as his chance to have real love in his life...I mean who wouldn't want that?

Girl, you said it. Jude was so fine. And though his Jealousy in the fight scene was unappealing, I like that he let her go and gave her space without argument. He was the cutie patootie to me. I felt for Josh’s character.

@@Larouge07 OMG girl, me too!!! Jude was EVERYTHING to me! It made no sense to me in that situation that she got blinded by Ismail and could no longer connect with Jude. They were the definition of a power couple. The jealousy Jude felt was understandable but the way he expressed it was definitely a turn off. But in the environment he lived in, plus watching his chance at love slip away got the best of him as it would most people I'm sure. Jude was the prize tho and deserved her love.

Thank God it didn't end with Lillie discovering she's pregnant and then fast-forwarding to a scene of her raising Ismail's child on her own, while fondly remembering him and saying something about him living on in their kid... It would have been too cliched and silly (also, that was not the right historical time to be an unwed single mother, even as a rich girl!).

    • @melissaallen3918

@Daniela F ....so true. I thought the same thing as they always make the woman pregnant & living a hard life. This movie wasn't a cliche. As she was telling the story, I knew that she survived during a dark time. The character of Lily was strong. Going to find Ismail after a suicide mission & all that came after showed her strength & LOVE for the man who was respectful, thoughtful & not Movie cliched. Heartbreaking & lovely at the same time as is the roller coaster of life.

Like it was said, you don’t choose who you will love It’s destiny. You can look for years and never find it, then one day when not searching and just living your own life to the fullest loving yourself first, then you will be attracted by others. My opinion of course ✌️ Actors were superb, locale beautiful, and Story gets an A++++

If you like that one, I recommend the promise it’s about the Armenian genocide and how an Armenian student falls in love with an Armenian woman who is already engaged a photographer, and it’s basically Armenians, trying to escape and fight back against the Turkish people
