The thing though is that Connor did actually love his sister, he was crazy protective of her, he was just scared to be close with her considering how violent he knew he could get
Dorky Duck when was this shown in the musical? I think the only vague instance is when Connor read the “Dear Evan Hansen” letter.
It's moreso through research on the deeper meaning and information on the musical. If I heard correctly, it was in the book a little this musical was based off of as well. I'm not sure if that's completely true though

Evan made a lot of stupid decisions, but when you see the musical you understand exactly how bad his social anxiety is. He’s CONSTANTLY fiddling with his shirt and blinking and sweating and looking down. He wasn’t just in a hard situation, he was in a nearly IMPOSSIBLE situation when you take into account his anxiety.
I agree that he was in a tough situation, but as someone with social anxiety-
We can't blame his Anxiety for everything. Evan was totally in the wrong with what he did throughout the play.
TrashCan Komaeda I fully agree. He made a lot of bad choices, I just don’t think the very first one mostly his fault. Every decision he made after that was extraordinarily idiotic on his part.

Soda and literally nobody believes that more than evan himself, man. like- his monologue after confessing to the murphy’s? “i am alone, the way i deserve to be. the way i’m meant to be. a fucking nothing. unworthy to the core.” stated at the same point in time where he lay in a pitch dark road in the middle of the night, waiting for a car to run him over. “no no no no no- what the fuck is WRONG with me?”

i like how jared puts the emphasis on " after he DIED" at the end. i swear i love this musical.
Connor was a good person with everything we know (and he did really love his sister) and although he did some bad things he just didn't know how to express himself. He had anger issuses and lashed out once which is what ruined his relationship with his sister.
I feel really bad for evan and zoe here and my heart aches, but i also can't stop laughing at the ending
When you get to "Good for you" you should watch Ros Mo's animatic because it has some extra stuff from the show in it and it's super good!

one big thing in the musical that isn't included in the songs is how abusive (mentally) Connor was to Zoe. "Just because Connor isn't here, trying to punch through my door, screaming at the top of his lungs that he's going to kill me for no reason..." -Zoe to Cynthia

So much of the point of the musical is that Evan makes a lot of rushed, questionable decisions that, in the heat of moment, he really did believe would help him and everyone Connor left behind. Those decisions, as well intentioned as they may be, really aren't good.

The first time I watched it, I also felt that way.. like there were so many iffy situations .. and I couldnt imagine how this could be okay .. ever.. but then when u finish it .. it’s like “okay, I can understand why” .. and it’s really beautiful how flawed it is.. like how we are - we’re not perfect and it highlights those imperfections which is hard to swallow at times but in the end.. not gonna spoil it but it comes together in a way were it really wouldn’t be as beautiful without these iffy moments ! It’s so real and honest and tough.. This musical saved my life.. in the most literal way.
I think that Evan is telling Zoe that her brother said these things because Evan is talking about his version of Connor, the Connor in the emails. Evan didn't know Connor that well, so he had to make up a good version of Connor, to show that everyone has a good side.
The next one is disappear. You should watch the one by trash cass!

if u ever get a chance to, read the book. every now and then it shows connors perspective on what evan's doing, how his family is taking his death, and talks about a friendship he *actually did have*. he even says that he could see him and evan being friends (in a diff world tho)

DEH is still my favourite musical on a personal level. I have my own problems with my brother, i have my own problems with dread and paranoia that i can't make a diffrence. I still do. Its a tough cage to get out of, knowing your mindset isnt true but still think it, its truely a torture worse than any other. But this musical gives me that tiny sliver of confidence and self worth every time.
