Taking a break from my headgasket on my 944 to watch speed academy, hell yea!
+ramiro lucio Nice good luck Ramiro!
+Blake's Garage Thank you sir gonna need all the luck I can get!
Congrats on finishing the install! This was way more in depth than I ever would have imagined. Solid work guys! Best build on the Intarwebs!
+roninsoldier83 I know this is definitely not a one day job!
+roninsoldier83 Thanks! We're trying to make it easier for those that do this job and wont make the mistakes we did.
Best show on RUclips, honestly great entertainment, the pace is spot on too.
+joper90 That means a lot to us thanks!
+Speed Academy They are great, for me they have (especially the GT-86), a start (build), middle, the wing/track tuning, which was quite unique compared to other channels, and the end.. the race.
Honestly, how you have not got any 2 post lifts, or scissor lifts and it it all with jacks and stands, i don't know.. The amount you must have spent on jacks/stands....
Keep it up.
Speed Academy you have great content. One of the best RUclips Channels for Petrolheads...:)
+Besjan Saidi Really is great to see them doing the work!
Little tip for you guys... locktite the bolts for the stacks. Have an ITB setup on my friends 2.4 stroker s2k and we had 3 of the bolts entirely back out of the threads and the rest were super loose. One of the bolts even made it down into the throttle. Luckily it bounced around on top of the valve and never made it down into the cylinder and we were able to fish it out. Put a bit of blue locktite on them and have not had a problem since. We did not find torquing the bolts sufficient enough for keeping them on. Keep up the good work!
+Greg Petroski good tip! Scary to think one of those bolts made its way into the throttle! Dodged a bullet there. We'll definitely loctite ours.
You guys inspire me to keep spending money on my S. Keep up the great work. :)
Nice to see it %90 finished. For a cleaner look and more room under the ITB assembly you can try using 90° vacuum push fitting in the distribution block and intake runners so the vacuum tubing will have a straight shot instead of making a large U. A+ on the vid guys..
+Binghamton Winabagel we were thinking the same on the fittings and lines. We can definitely clean things up now that we've got it sorted.
Fellow Canadian here who just discovered your channel! Great job on the videos! I know how hard it is to work through those winters. Also like seeing two of my favorite import cars being worked on (RX7 and S2000). Would very much like to see the s30/260z get some love too. Keep it coming!
Badass2000 coming along nicely guys, well done. Speed Academy is my favorite channel!
I look forward to these more than I do roadkill. Keep up the great work.
+Rafael Fernandez Wow that's such a huge compliment. THANK YOU!
Hey guys, found your channel a week or so ago, really been getting into your videos, it helps satisfy my car fix, while I save up for my own car to work on! Loving the background music by the way!
+Oliver Shearer Thank you and thanks for subbing.
Congrats guys! I may have said it before but thank you for braving the cold to put out episodes.
+walt350z Well thanks for appreciating our dedication, especially in the cold haha
Really good series with the Jenveys! Favorite show on RUclips for sure!
+guvernator23 Thank you!
Looks wicked! As much as I love seeing the "velocity stacks" the filter looks awesome
+PowellMoore Both are pretty awesome so its a win win situation.
Live for your videos. Thank you guys at speed academy.
So close to the end! Keep up the good work guys!!
SO STOKED WHEN I SAW AN UPDATE NOTICE ON MY PHONE! Thanks guys.
+Eric Jungbluth You're very welcome.
man I can't wait to hear this thing! spring can't come soon enough!
+Garrett Martin We're stoked to fire them up as soon as the injectors arrive.
I cant wait to hear these puppies!
+SpeedFreak0122 Us too!
Great job! I want to hear that thing so bad now!
+Drift Review The anticipation is killing us as well.
Can't wait to see this thing running and on the dyno. Don't forget a check valve in the brake booster vacuum line!
I love this series. Makes me want to buy an S2K everytime!
+GSTuan Thats our plan, S2ks for everyone!! :)
I want more... lol I know this just came out a few days ago but I just can't get enough!
Good job guys. Been waiting all week to see how the build is going, you guys rock !!!
+Alexander Perdigon Thank you!
Been following the s2000 build since you got it and love your channel! I didn't see you guys replace the check valve from the brake booster. There is a check valve imbedded in the hose. It is about in the middle of the hose, you can see a slight bump. Check my s2000 to ensure they have a brake booster check valve and they do.
+Jake Chronister Great catch! We totally forgot about it and will put that on.
+Jake Chronister So we checked our OEM brake booster hose and there's no check valve to be found!
Can't wait to hear it! Guys the engine bay looks awesome. Thanks for sharing these vids for us.
+Sean Neal Thank you!
man ive look forward every week to s2k updates:)
Good job guys, not the cleanest installation but still very entertaining :)
oh and thanks for the rep, I almost feel like a celebrity now lol
+Anders W Well thanks for the photos and help Anders. You saved us a bunch of time and agony.
Ohh yea!! Getting closer!! Can't wait to hear her scream!
May want to add some hood ducts later so the the ITBs can get more airflow. Still a great looking project. love the content
+Javier Kano Thats our plan and a proper carbon air box as well.
Awesome cant wait :)
You think with this nice set of ITBs the company would have looked into the temp sensor and bolt clearancing issues.
+Chris Leclair Agreed. For $1600 I expect plug n play. That's way too much to be cocking around clearancing holes and such.
Ikr?
+1QuickSlovak bolt and play :P
+Chris Leclair Jenvey built this kit for the F20C to be used in race cars like the Caterham, not the S2000. We knew going in that there would be lots of custom work required, but that's half the fun!
+Speed Academy fair enough. Do they make 90 degree temp sensors or connectors? Sucks you had to clearance against the firewall but I guess #becauseracecar
It looks awesome!!! Great job guys
I can't wait to hear it scream. Loudly. Go S2K!
+twots22 WE can't either! The damn injectors are taking forever to arrive.
It's about goddamn time lol, who's excited?..........I AM
even though the stacks looks bad ass I personally love the look of the filter because it's actually functional
+H3ntairican You are a wise man like us.
quick tip for hardware, chuck it up in a drill and spin it against your grinder. makes it perfectly even.
vacuum manifold doesn't care about the hose length, it's just a pressure (vacuum) tap, make them fit comfortably to not strain the push-lock and you're done. But the bracket for the manifold is totally appropriate, just needs some speed holes.
Also, watch that those sliced electrical plug grommets don't pop out, I'd put a little adhesive in there...
Nice work fellas, hope that ITB was worth it...maybe slide throttles next time?
+Craig Derian Thanks for the tips. The next job on the list will be building a proper air box to feed cold air to the ITBs
Can't wait for the sounds! :D
how do you guys build these cars without copious amounts of beer?
or does the beer get consumed off camera?
+im Schwaggy If we drank beers then these videos would take us 4x longer to complete. We have to stay focused, coffee and redbulls only!!
Speed Academy mix the coffees and red bulls lol
20:10 That's definitely not the purpouse of the convergent runner. The purpouse is to transition an almost static fluid (air in the aribox) with the least amount of fluid dynamic losses. This is especially important on ITB because the runners are meant to use dynamic effects that increase the pressure of the A/F charge inside the cylinder (RAM effect) by timing correctly the pressure waves inside the runners and the engine. This means very high fluid velocity inside the runners, therefore very high fluid dynamic losses. High fluid velocity is an unwanted effect to mitigate, that comes out if you take advantage of the pressure waves refraction. This practice allow 1.2-1.3 times the ambient pressure in an NA engine, so dealing with high fluid velocity is plenty worth it.
To install the speed sensor on the opposite side you might have to open the valves, then install the sensor. Subaru's have this problem when reinstalling the sensor on the TGVs.
+Greg LaPointe aha! Good to know. We'll check that out.
I love this shit thanks guys for all your hard work, side note Pete is an awesome magician.
+Victor “Bigsexy” Oliveira I've been practicing a lot. :)
looks great can't wait to hear it run
only things I would do different is to add anther return springs(have 2) cause none likes a stuck throttle on track and would have used 90Deg elbows for the vacuum lines, would make it look a little cleaner ( not that anyone will see it)
+James Lindsay If we have any issues with the throttle we'll definitely add another spring.
Jesus Christ this was a pain in the ass, props to you guys
And also pro tip on the back of your throttle pedal inside the car there is a factory little metal box/stopper if you go and remove that you have to cut it off you will get 100% throttle
+MIKETROUSBUILD Good tip, we'll check it out.
+Speed Academy yeah just on the Bolts that are holding the velocity stacks/airhorns need to have Loctite on the threads because the vibration from the engine overtime will loosen them up and even come apart on my race car back in the day I had ITB's and lost a couple velocity stacks because the bolts vibrated loose and sucked a couple of the bolts back into the engine
+Speed Academy what engine management/ECU are u going to be using
You guys should try out Acura RDX injectors. I've had very good results on my cars. I wonder how they would do with itb's
+Chase Diaz we have Injector Dynamic on the job!
I guess the velocity stacks would create something called the venturi effect which accelerates air when flowing through a channel with a small diameter. In carburetors, there is a channel called a venturi channel or tube that uses this same concept to vaporize the air/fuel mixture for better combustion.
+Jinny Park That's the theory which we hope will help us make more power. :)
Speed Academy Yes! I hope the build goes well! I wish I would be able to drive it...
damn, these hose are always in the way of everything.
+im Schwaggy these hose aint loyal
+Stevie Deez Winning at life sir!
I was hoping that I would get to hear it today lol man!! Come on your killing me! Lol nice build keep up the hard work!
+Brian Vtec Trust us, we want to see if the car will fire us so bad! Injectors cant come soon enough.
+Speed Academy quick question, do you still work for autoguide? I haven't seen you doing any reviews lately, hope your doing good man! You guys make a great team by the way.
no gasket on the thermostat housing or intake?? or did you guys put that when we werent looking?
+TheAngryFrenchCanadian Noticed the same thing. No hose clamps either, such as on the brake booster hose which slipped on disturbingly easily not to have a clamp.
Also, that air filter is going to rub holes everywhere it touches something or is close to touching.
+TheAngryFrenchCanadian the intake gasket is there, but it's black so it's hard to see. The t-stat gasket we may have forgotten, tho! We'll double check tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!
+Speed Academy You also might want replace or do something about the brake booster hose, there is a check valve inside the oem one to help it store the vacuum. Think you may run in to some problems without one.
Don't shoot the messenger, boys, but I think you're now in the market for a new hood. I seriously doubt the factory lid will close over the Jenvey fuel rail as it is currently fitted and the air cleaner,.. fuggitaboudit.
If you pause the video at 24:24 it sure looks like the fuel rail is higher than the cam cover. (I know the car is jacked up on one side, but it still looks too high.) Maybe you'll get really lucky and have the space after removing the hood insulation, but I wouldn't feel comfortable betting on it.
+yunclehead We've actually closed the hood and everything clears without issue. The cleaner looks like it rests on the hood but the fuel rail clears without a doubt.
RUclips only allowing 360p. Is this correct?
+Oliver Rivett-Carnac It's still processing, they just uploaded it.
+thechase53 Ah, not sure how it all works on the content upload side of things.
So it processes the upload and starts making the qualities available as it finishes?
Kinda makes sense. I guess I was impatient so watched it in 360p :P
+Oliver Rivett-Carnac 360P Club! Congrats on being so early.
Oliver Rivett-Carnac Correct, you got it.
When you're manually pulling the throttle linkage, it seems the butterfly valves aren't going to full 90* rotation, is that something you're concerned with? If it's an issue I'm sure you've already fixed it considering this is an old video, just curious.
18:28 - "I don't think that's gonna do any harm"
...except if the alternator belt lets go... or alternator heat starts to deform the hose which could cause accelerated perishing and then a nice leak of coolant over the alternator...or even just rubbing from the rad not moving but the engine moving depending on the state of your engine bushes (I'm not sure if you uprated them or not tbh)
+MattySP34Ks Heat from the alternator deforming the hose? I'm going to say we have better odds throwing a rod through the block then having that happen. I'm confident that the fuel line being where it is will be completely fine.
Jenvey should do more R&D with this kit ....however it looks great !!
It's not for the s2000 only the engine that is used in race cars
dat gangsta lean in the end
I reset my S2000 SRS light a few minutes ago. That compares to this ITB install right?
+Dirkaah exactly the same LOL
+Speed Academy I'm glad you think so haha.
I can only imagine the headache of installing these itbs!
that mazdaspeed jacket is sick
you guys have been increasing your subscriber base quite a lot in the last few months , Glad to see that! you guys make great technical content and diserve way more subs = bigger budget = more videos /content .
do you guys mind sharing if any of you two have day jobs ? because you're putting out decent amount of content if both of you do have day jobs and families (kids etc.)
+Trenchluv Thanks and this is our day job! We're not making money at it yet but the hope is to get there one day with more subs and companies sponsoring the video series.
It's the first time I seen the TB flaps or butterfly open that way, all the ones I seen the top half goes in not out. I could be wrong but it jus didn't look right when you were opening them
Very nice job but it looks like with that filter being so squashed in their and sucking the hot air from the engine it won't breath as much as it can. Some kind of a CAI with a filter might be better but should be hard to custom create for the ITBs
+Dim That's on our list of things to do in the summer
I love your content and format! I was wondering if there are plans for some large cams to take advantage of those lovely ITBs. IIRC, there is a s2k all motor build that has 400+ whp so the head will flow the cfm for more juice.
+Jeffrey Moore Once we get the engine sorted with the ITBs and see what power it makes, we'll consider doing cams next.
I always looked out for u guys video soon awesome! !!
Can we please get some videos on that miata??? it would be so awesome, plus there isnt a whole lot of miata videos (of good quality at least) either way loving all the vids. keep it up!!!
+alec halbert The Miata is Ken's friends project and there hasnt been much done to it. So no videos for now, just teasing with it in the background. :)
I know this is kinda old now... but any chance you guys kept the invoice or parts sheet and know or can access the thread pitch(es) of the throttle body to manifold cap screws? I ask because while Jenvey makes a manifold for my application-it's too long, so I have designed my own to be machined. Jenvey allows you to download blueprint PDFs to properly size flanges etc., but doesn't include the thread pitch of the cap screws... I can ask at Jenvey and probably will, but I thought I'd ask here too...
Yes, so much win !
the ole BFH- big fucking hammer lol, i love you guys
those are beautiful much props
+CB7Eduardo Thank you!
I can't wait for the dyno numbers to actually see the pay off.
+Victor “Bigsexy” Oliveira We really hope they deliver!!
Is trumpets not called Velocity stacks and South Africa they call them RAM-Tubes . Sweet build Guys....
Gotta get a speed academy ignition coil cover next
+MC1796 We're working on it actually!
+Speed Academy Ooh that's gonna look sexy.
Trumpets save lives!
11:27 BFH I thought that was just a Chevy HEI thing LOL.
+Blake's Garage BFH is a universal! Haha
Great work guys and awsome parts !:) Just wondering why there is not any washers on the bolts, so the bolts wont be eating itself in the metall or carbon when turning?
+Anders Holst Kjellsen There were very small lock washers on the bolts that hold the velocity stacks in place.
Aha! Didn`t see them, nice and clean look with those washers :)
so, i know this is being nitpicky, but did you guys use an intake gasket? i didnt see one go on when you guys tightened up
Why do the ITB's look like they aren't opening all the way? Is it supposed to be that way? Were you just not holding the throttle cable as far as it could go?
+Ben Machoukas we just weren't opening them fully is all.
Looks good.
Make a hood air intake!
+KoNLaR That would look pretty sick with a giant oval air cleaner poking out.
+Blake's Garage no! they should do a hood air intake and a thing on carbon fiber to deliver air to the itbs
+KoNLaR ya, perhaps a NACA duct on the hood to feed fresh air to the filter.
Also, how does it not heat soak? Could you combine some type of cool air?
The ITB's isn't really considered a manifold since it doesn't have a chamber that goes into separate runners
Cool video though!!!
+Integra DIY fair enough! Dave should have known better, since he was being a know-it-all about the velocity stacks.
+Speed Academy lol!! I'm so excited to hear this engine! first start should be with filter off ;)
And it continues... :) BTW guys superstreet installed an ivtec system on the f20. they said its good for 30hp and 35lbs peak power! have you guys heard about this vtec conversion?
+testing316 Yes, our friend Gary Castillo designed it. Its a system that may actually not be in production or is only when people order it but we've heard only great things about it.
+Speed Academy good to know, hopefully that baby makes it production one day
Could you make or have made a clear cover on the air cleaner? That way you can still see the itb's.
+boofighter I dont think there's a material that exists which is clear and works as a filter.
+Speed Academy
I was thinking that the top part that had the printing on could be clear and the sides could still be the foam.
i saw in your activities that you liked vibrant's RWD crx and thought you guys were building it XD
Background music for this please guys?
This build is looking superb....mulling the ITB myself but the workload looks a real pain in the ass.
The piece de la resistance 😂😂😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
but why are there 2 fuel lines on the fuel rail?
When I am not working on my car...I am watching Speed Academy Work on their car.
+tigawoods Amen! We love it!
put the bolt in a drill when grinding the head down next time. it will come out rounder and its quicker
+That-JDM-Fascination! Great tip!
will you guys be doing a complete parts list and total?
+Anthony Le yessir, we will put together a complete parts list and a full story on our website too.
Another good vid guys, thanks!
+agentbob100 Glad you like the content!
So many hoses 😁 how much more does the itb weigh with all its extra hoses and brackets over the stock intake?
+Jadon Ghereben Oh it's much lighter than the stock intake. The cast OE manifold is at least twice as heavy, not to mention the big steel bracket underneath it that supports it. That's all gone now. We've definitely saved some weight with the ITBs, though we're not too concerned with that. This is all about making mid-range power, which we hope to see lots of on the dyno very soon.
You guys should do a miata build next!
+Nathan Leyrat We've thought about it.
you totally should
you guys are funny, love the chnl…you make me never want to install itbs on the s2k i dont have
Have you tried closing the bonnet yet? (Hate to ask!) When I used that filter setup on my old ITBs, the bonnet wouldn't close and I had to slot the holes in the filter plate to drop it down.
+Mark B Yeah we tried closing the hood and it was fine. Interesting that you had clearance issues.
+Speed Academy I think my old ones were AT Power throttles but using the same Jenvey filter. The stacks must be a different angle to the Jenvey ones. Either that or my engine has some gangster lean on ;)
Are you going for a naca bonnet duct above the filter? I always worried about number 4 running a bit lean, plus helps not breathing in hot air from the rad.
If i had this car i would have thought about a turbo, but now heell nah this ITB is awesome.
+Dédé LABINOUZE We love the idea of crisp throttle response and the ITBs provide just that!
the only bad part about being one the first to watch a video is dealing with the sometimes bad picture quality(not their fault)
After these new upgrades, are you guys going to make a track day video with this S2k?
+ravenstylea2 Ofcourse! Thats the end goal with the mods, to see how much faster it really is.
Exciting to hear!!
Doesn't look like you guys are getting full throttle the butterflies look like they're only about 80% need to be at 100% and also make sure you're using the Loctite for the velocity stack bolts because the vibration from the engine well make them come loose from experience
+MIKETROUSBUILD Hmm, ok thanks. We'll loctite the bolts then. And we havent adjust the throttle rod yet for 100% throttle. That will come when we tune the car.
WIll this air intake setup still perform better even though a lot of engine heat will warm up the air that goes in the engine?
+Freek Jacobs We've heard it still does but we're trying to figure out what the best way to get cold fresh air into the area will be.
