Hey Jacob, an answer to your power question here. The power supply for your phone is from its internal battery which you apparently charged in the L.A. area, where there was no power outage. But in order to work your phone needs a connection. The connection is wireless through the various antennas that are placed throughout the country. And while you are in an area where there is a power outage, these antennas are also without power, so they cannot function properly. This is something to be aware of in case of higher priority contact, for example between you and Jen, or with an emergency service. Very likely you are not even able to call 911 in the area where you are now. So keep track of the weather forecasts using your car radio, and try to select your route to minimize power outages and maximize your reachability. Act wise and stay safe. Also: very, very nice video about this aquarium. I loved the tour. Even though you said you rushed, you gave a very good and almost complete impression. Could talk for hours or even days about their exhibits. MBARI (Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute) is one of my favorite marine institutions around the world. What i'd like to mention especially is that the ocean and beach views you showed, as well as some of the internal views, are frequently available on youtube through webcams. Subscribe to the MBARI channel and enjoy!
So Jacob, I've been a patreon supporter, a merch purchaser, cameo purchaser, and a happy promoter of your channel for years. But in all the places you've been and things you've seen, that "anchovies tornado" had to be the most amazing, most beautiful thing you've ever shared. It was stunning! It was hypnotic! And I wonder about that guy swimming the wrong way. Is he a stupid anchovy or does he know something the others don't? :)
Unfortunately, it’s not the best time to be here in California. Our winter has been insane this year. We definitely need the rain, but man it’s been practically nonstop since late December. Be safe.
I’d absolutely recommend you visit Avenue of the Giants, if you haven’t already. It’s an incredible scenic highway a little above San Francisco filled with giant redwoods. It’s truly one of the most majestic places in the world. Not really anything to do besides viewing the gorgeous scenery, but even if you don’t film it you should still just go for your own enjoyment sometime.
Welcome to the Montery Peninsula, it’s so cool knowing you are visiting where I just happen to live and work. Sorry for the poor timing weather wise! It was a crazy storm. Hope your able to come back another time when we have power again! I would recommend September or October for the best weather.
My family and I watch your videos every day on our TV! Rewatch them often, talk about you often, and have been wondering when you get to tour California! San Jose is not far from Monterey, and have an interactive science museum. To get to Navada will be hard due to it being snowed in, though if you want to stop by Sacramento we agree that you would probably enjoy Old Town Sacramento!
Sorry I missed you yesterday! I work at the Aquarium. Im so glad you enjoyed the little time you spent here! Next time you visit, a behind the scenes tour is definitely worth it. The Open Ocean feeding is also a guest favorite. It would be cool to see you visit the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. Casa de Fruta in Hollister is another cool spot to check out.
Been wearing my Carpetbagger tees for years, it never ceases to make me smile how many times someone will comment on it. I live in Australia. Never think you are not loved worldwide CB!!
16 mile drive is nice! The Steinbeck House is actually a restaurant but you can visit. Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Stop at some missions, Carmel has a mission and old church,
Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo Ca. Is only two hours south of Monterey! Very interesting Inn with all different themed rooms, Beautiful! Nice gardens, and a good restaurant! 😃
Jacob you have certainty had your share of weather related events lately!!! I love how you turned a not so great day into a wonderful video by finding the aquarium open. Being a GA native now living in CT, I have been to the Tennessee Aquarium, the Georgia Aquarium, and the Mystic Aquarium in CT. All 3 of these are amazing to visit but pale in comparison to what I just saw in your video!!! I can only imagine how incredible it was in person!! Please be safe and head back East!!! Jen needs you in one piece! Cali is sure experiencing some strange weather!!!
Thank you so much for showing Monterey. I haven't lived there since 2001. I love it and miss it so much. Always things to do there. This was one of the suggestions I mentioned when you were asking for suggestions on where to film. Thank you so much❤
This is actually one of my favorite places in the world to go to. When it reopened I was actually more excited to come here than any theme park. Which surprised me.
Jacob, I keep thinking of such nice places to visit near Monterey, Carmel by the Sea is a awesome little town, next to Monterey. 17 Mile Drive in Monterey is a fabulous drive , Doris Day, and Clint Eastwood was the mayor of Carmel at one time! I used to live in San Jose for over 50 years, and have visited these beautiful places in Monterey, I guarantee you will love Carmel, and 17 Mile Drive! 😃
I was stationed at DLI in Monterey back in 2006-2007. I spent many weekends on Cannery Row, Fisherman's wharf, and downtown Monterey. It was one of the favorite times of my life
Monterey is one of our favorite vacation spots. Too bad everything was closed. There are so many good restaurants and things to do in Cannery Row. Hope you are able to go back soon.
Great video as always. I'm glad the aquarium was open for you to see and film. You should consider going to Hearst Castle or Winchester Mystery House if you have never been. They are close to where you are. Both great !! Safe travels :)
This is one of my favorite areas in California. The Monterey Bay Aquarium truly is world class- so glad they were open even though the rest of the area is dark.
My family and I went to the Monterey aquarium when I was younger and it was so much fun; it's a pretty big aquarium from what I remember, but my favorite sea creature there are definitely the sea otters.
To me, the best episode ever made ended with "im the carpet bagger, stood at height in a structurally unsafe building". I remember thinking that content like that would never appear on television and that's what made it so good. Sticking to the rule that if you ever find a fridge in an abandoned property it has to be opened too. Drone footage of ship wrecks in lakes too
I didn't expect a video from Monterey! Thank you for taking me back, Jacob :) I miss that city so badly!!! I went there for college and the beaches and forests are beautiful. I would suggest the Santa Cruz Pier as the next destination but the weather might not allow you to have a good time :(
Jacob if you get a chance go to Santa Cruz the rides are open from 12PM-5PM today. And the Neptune's Arcade with the Pirate Golf is open from 10AM-10PM.❤😊😊😊😊
Jacob, so glad you made it to Monterey. It’s true that California is having some truly unprecedented weather this year, with the Atmospheric River bringing massive amounts of rain and snow to the state. So very happy you got into the Monterey Bay Aquarium, it truly is a World-Class aquarium. Maybe next time you can have a longer stay. I had the privilege of being able to live in Monterey for several years, many years ago. I was a member of the Aquarium and would visit frequently. I really miss living there. Normally I would recommend visiting Napa and the surrounding areas, but with all the rain now, that could end up being a rather harrowing trip. There are several little towns up there and the area is absolutely gorgeous, but it does have a couple of major rivers that run through and they are prone to flooding. Wherever you travel, be safe in all this Wild Weather!
Such a treat to see the place that one of my favourite American books was written about. Thank you! Also - the best aquarium that I’ve seen you visit. 🐠 🐟 🎣
So... the big claim to fame of the Aquarium is that it's where they filmed Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home. When I went I asked one of the employees there and they had no idea... I was a little surprised. (Honestly, there should be a plaque or something!) Naturally I had to check out all the spots where they filmed including the stairs that Kirk walked down and they "tank" where Spock went swimming with George and Gracie. Was surreal to be standing where Kirk & Spock once were!
My husband said the Iowa 80 Truck Stop! We are making a bucket list for a major trip some day and watching your videos have helped us make several decisions! This aquarium is definitely on our list. I’d also like to visit the Fort Ord Monument. My dad was stationed there during the 60’s. Thanks for the videos and we always look forward to your post cards!
Very good video Jacob, I love watching all your current and past videos. I really look forward in seeing new uploads daily! You seem like a great , Fun guy! Best Of luck with your vehicle in Ohio Much Love from Athens Ohio💗💗💗
Go North past San Francisco......mosey up towards Eureka and Arcata California.....Lots of redwoods, ocean, sea lions, green, big rivers.....Fern Canyon, Trees of Mystery....SO much amazingness .....and very RURAL....Head North!!! I loved the aquarium...I've always meant to go there!!!!
Truly a magical aquarium you found. If I ever make it to Cali that will be on my list to see for sure. It was beautiful. I must say I am more than a little jealous. Weird how the power was out like that. Hope everything is all better now. Where ever your adventure leads, I will be here watching. Keep up the good work Jacob. 🙂
I read Cannery Row when I was a kid, and have been fascinated by Monterey ever since. Would have loved to have seen it in Steinbeck's time. The book drew a lot of attention world wide to Monterey, so I'd say Steinbeck earned his bust and statue. 😂 The aquarium looked amazing, however I hope people don't evolve into crabs. People are scary enough as is.
Hello Jacob! The weather forecast is pretty rough along California's coast right now, but normally, if you travel back a little bit, the town of Cambria in California's Central Coast is pretty nice. You can visit Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal Vista Point. But weather-wise, heading towards Las Vegas or somewhere in Arizona would have probably been the better option right now. Take care and safe travels! Sorry we missed you in Los Angeles👋👋
The powerless mall was starting to get spooky . Im surprised how much you were able to cover without electricity. That aquarium has to be one of the best I have seen. It really would be worth a second look in the future . You are very creative in your adventures . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
@@TheCarpetbagger Ha ha...no, Catalina Island, 29 miles off the coast of Southern California. It's a really great place to explore...lots of things to do and it's gorgeous!
Great video I love that Aqarium and the Monteray area..just breath taking...Having been raised In Califonia I'm a bit partial..I was raised in the town of Modesto..Gallo winery ..The McHenry museum and of course graffiti night ..which happens in june..Thereis a statue on the corner of McHenry Avenue by Denny restraint in honor of American Graffiti...Might be some thing worth looking into...either way keep the great videos coming. Thanks for what you do ..Much respect from a Cali girl living in Maine...safe travels
I think you should head to Vegas. You could easily get a couple of days of videos from there. Love watching your videos when they come out. I'll probably never see this stuff with my own eyes, so I love that I get to see lots of America that I normally wouldn't.
Just wanted to commend you on your fine umbrella blocking skills in the beginning of your video. You can block unwanted attention better than anyone I've ever seen! Makes me laugh every time. You sir are super slick. Thanks for another great couch vacation.
Monterey is one of my favorite cities to be in. I still think it was interesting how public opinion of John Steinbeck's books changed after they brought in so much interest and money in to the area. In the book "Cannery Row", Steinbeck's friend Doc goes to a little place in Gonzales and asks if they will make a "beer milkshake" ... It was a disaster, but it did put the restaurant "The Palace" on the map.... Lol. I'm from Gonzales, and Steinbeck's practically required reading in school. Lol. I'd love to see you tour the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, California... They have a reproduction of an Egyptian tomb, a planetarium, and a pendulum.... Or at least they did when I was there last. They also have a decent art gallery upstairs. It's not an Odditarium, but I think there's still enough to keep your interest. 😊 Awesome videos as always, Jacob.... Give Jen hugs for me 😘
I think it would be really neat if you want to be in four places at once for you to go the Four Corners Monument! I think it would be pretty fun to go to Denver as well! Cheers!
Solvang (Danish Village), San Juan Bautista, Pismo Beach, Santa Cruz, Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, Half Moon Bay, Jelly Belly Factory, Sausalito Ferry to Sausalito, Sonoma, Mendocino...just a few ideas..:)
Loved the aquarium and the education kit provided so important to protect our oceans, all that plastic made me cry, poor sea creatures eat that stuff and die😿💔😿💙🐠🐟🐬🐳🦈🦭🦀🐙🦐🌊
Thank you for this Monterey video (even though the power was out)! A lot of my family is from that area and I love Cannery Row. The aquarium is really fun!
Love how your braving the power outage and didn't have to sleep in your car! Thankyou so much for taking me and my hubby Al through the aquarium...absolutely beautiful, stunning. We always look forward to seeing your vids each day..thanks Jacob! ❤️
You could go to Cerro Gordo, CA. Brent, a fellow youtuber, is revitalizing an old silver mine there with lots of history. His channel is Ghosttownliving. If you go bring supplies, no restaurants there.
Travel Ideas: fairly nearby is Big Sur but weather may be a dealbreaker. Just to the north in San Jose is the Winchester House. Also nearby: Bravo Farms and Santa Cruz Mystery Spot!
AWESOME Jacob!! Way To Bring The SUNSHINE To Monterrey... here's ana Idea Jacob, Go North & Ride The Skunk Train from Willits To Fort Bragg... Don't forget to stop in CLOVERDALE.. We'll gladly set you up here!!! SAFE TRAVELS JACOB!!!
Like the song goes “It never rains in California “ but must say that’s all they have been getting lately and snow too I think all over the country has had crazy weather this winter but loving your journey Jacob stay safe 😊
If you happen to head back south, I highly recommended you check out the small beautiful town of Solvang, they have a mission you can explore, ostrich/emu farm, and make sure to eat at Paula’s pancakes
We just found you. Great video of Cannery Row and the Aquarium. You commentary is fun to listen to and very informative. We suggest you drive down rt. 1 through Big Sur all the way down to San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle. It is amazing. Or, you could go north to Santa Cruz and then up to Ano Neuvo to see the elephant seals.
Welcome to the wet coast. Going to get up Santa Rosa way?? Lunch is on me. Ripley is buried here by the way. Hitchcock locations as well. Would love to show you about. Oh oh. The Charles Schultz Peanuts Museum as well.
I don't know what is open because of the weather, but: there is a walking tour you can do of the historical downtown. There is a esplanade (?) across from the pier/wharf. Pacific Grove is pretty to drive through, have lunch. Asilomar/the coastline is amazing. There is a lighthouse. Also, the 16 mile drive. Thank you for sharing! It's been a while for us.
It's good to see your doing the best of it as there's a power outage in the city as you said, thanks for letting us know what's going on. Stay safe and take care.📸🙏🙂
Jacob! I just wanted to say I love your videos. Look forward to seeing your videos uploaded (almost)daily! I'm Canadian, but live in Nashville- so I would love to see you go up to British Columbia, but in the States would to see Seattle or San Francisco! Two cities I still need to visit! :)
So for the wax museum I actually went it. You entered in the lower floor. That ship mast had fishermen on it and a giant net full of fish was suspended over a fountain. There were very early animatronics in the actual museum and it depicted the history of California and Cannery Row. Overall though it was very education focused museum and it was definitely showing it's age. The audio was starting to not be reliable and they had to put up cameras everywhere due to people using it as an....ahem...meet up and "hug" and "definitely not do drugs" in the very often empty museum. I went in it 3 times and I was only there every time. It was a nice place to escape to when the warf was super busy.
In the Skagit Valley north of Seattle there is a tulip festival coming up April 1st-May 10th. My hometown (Mount Vernon WA). Hopefully your car will be back to you before then, but it's good to have a Plan B. Nearby La Conner has a Monterey vibe.
Aqua massage was a great part of my Las Vegas vacation! I've described it to many people. Different prices the longer you stay. I should have done it two or three times and you should too!
It's always comforting to hear your "Hey, you all!" :) Great video, Jake!
I love saying it with Jacob as well as "more specifically" and "in the bag!". :)
I am big fan of Steinbeck's novels so I really enjoyed this tour.
So am I. He is my favorite author. Maybe he should stop by Salinas to tour Steinbeck's boyhood home and accompanying museum.
I could sit there ALL DAY listening to the water crashing/flowing into everything i find it very relaxing 🙂😊

Oh, and I have an idea one you start back east, the Badlands of South Dakota are amazing.
Love how your braving the power outage and didn't have to sleep in your car! Thankyou so much for taking me and my hubby Al through the aquarium...absolutely beautiful, stunning. We always look forward to seeing your vids each day..thanks Jacob! ❤️
Come to old Sacramento! Great historic town the railroad museum, gold, logging etc..etc..history and unique shops!!
You could go to Cerro Gordo, CA. Brent, a fellow youtuber, is revitalizing an old silver mine there with lots of history. His channel is Ghosttownliving. If you go bring supplies, no restaurants there.
Sounds like you're becoming a storm chaser . Maybe you should start looking at the weather before you do travel plans
It’s all apart of the adventure. I like that Jacob just makes the most it and still has a good time.
That is the aquarium that Finding Dory was based off of!!! Awesome video!!
My family and I are supposed to vacation in Monterey in a few weeks. We hope the weather gets better! 😣
Travel Ideas: fairly nearby is Big Sur but weather may be a dealbreaker. Just to the north in San Jose is the Winchester House. Also nearby: Bravo Farms and Santa Cruz Mystery Spot!
I second the Winchester Mystery House.
I'm glad you were able to still have an amazing day today. Thanks for taking us along.
Jacob....Vegas and area 15. It's changed so much since your first visit
Welcome to the wet coast. Going to get up Santa Rosa way?? Lunch is on me. Ripley is buried here by the way. Hitchcock locations as well. Would love to show you about. Oh oh. The Charles Schultz Peanuts Museum as well.
OMG.... You did my suggestion! This is where my dad's family is from!
I would love to see your reaction to the newport aquarium in Kentucky
LOVE Cannery Row and the Aquarium. Some of my best childhood memories were made there.... And the Gilroy Garlic Festival!
Beautiful aquarium, thanks for sharing. 🐡🐠🐟
Thank you very, very much for this video. Too bad there were issues with power.😒
I ask and you always come through. 🙌
You're on the coast, Hawaii has an interstate, you have a rental. Drive to Hawaii and you'll only have Alaska left!🤔🤣🤣
You make my day so much better Jacob 💕 ✌️❤️
He does make my day better too
I don't know what is open because of the weather, but: there is a walking tour you can do of the historical downtown.
Lol the shot of you crawling out of that little egg hahah. My mannnnn
Try to check out Nevada, possibly Vegas or even Arizona for better weather I'm sure you'll find something to get into.
Great Monterey video! If still in the area, how about Winchester Mystery House in San Jose??
And here, we see a wild Carpetbagger being born into the world 32:54. Note it's colorful hat and trademark glasses.
😂
In the Skagit Valley north of Seattle there is a tulip festival coming up April 1st-May 10th. My hometown (Mount Vernon WA). Hopefully your car will be back to you before then, but it's good to have a Plan B. Nearby La Conner has a Monterey vibe.
Aqua massage was a great part of my Las Vegas vacation! I've described it to many people. Different prices the longer you stay. I should have done it two or three times and you should too!
I can’t wait to see you record treasure hunt Jacob 👍
Hey CB why not try Nevada not necessarily Vegas but other stuff.i mean everybody does Vegas ,what about other stuff
