"Sleeping Sun" is a power ballad and the fourth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released as a maxi single with three other songs on 2 August 1999 to coincide with the total solar eclipse that would occur on 11 August.

I saw a total eclipse in 2017 in Salem, Oregon. Had I known of this song then, I would have had it playing during totality. Now listening to it reminds me of that day in Oregon. 🤗

Besides haunting, did you look for ... soothing? This is like lullaby. Especially with Tarja I get the light feeling resembling the feeling you sometimes before falling to sleep: that falling into feathers. Also by Floor there's that 'tuck me in' feeling
It was written for the 1999 full eclipse of the sun seen across Northern Europe. It was written with Tarje's voice as a focal.
The eclipse happened in August or day 222 of the year to give some context to the lyrics.

Im from Denmark, and its due to a dispute between the Danish musicians union and RUclips over the rate of payment. Dont know why it hits NW as they are not Danish. But I use VPN myself.
The lyrics are about the solar eclipse happened in 1999. The song was written for that event, it was a random single Tuomas was asked to write but ended up being very successful.
I think Tuomas wrote this for an eclipse. Again, Floor shows how she takes songs from Nightwish's past and makes them her own. It's very over the top in the super feels style.
Greetings from Finland. Like others have already told, Tuomas was requested to write a song to celebrate the solar eclipse of 1999 in Northern Europe. At first he refused saying that he doesn't write songs to order. Furthermore, he didn't like them telling him that it should be a ballad no more than three minutes long & with a catchy chorus. However, we can all now enjoy this song & the fact that he changed his mind.
P.S. Tarja sung the original version, but I like Floor's more intimate & emotional version better, but my favorite version is sung by Tuomas' 2nd cousin Elina Siirala, who used to be an opera singer before founding her own metal band "EnleliNation/Angel Nation" & later joining a German symphonic metal band "Leaves' Eyes". In Finland we had a total splar eclips in 1999..that’s the main story of the song.

This song was inspired by a solar eclipse. Beautiful song. Have you reacted to Stargazers from this same concert? Very much operatic vocals by Floor. Your "Tampere" was not bad at all. No need to stress about that.
👍👍🇫🇮 4am here in Helsinki, time to go to bed I guess. Light headache. Not bad, I believe I can go to sleep. 7-8 hours ago I attended an Erja Lyytinen concert. She is a Finnish female blues guitarist, voted twice to be among the best guitarists in the world. I can understand why. It was fantastic, her band is great too. And what a nice lady she is, talking to fans after the gig, and she really loves to do that. A fan, an older man who's always drunk, wanted to have a kiss, she declined gracefully. "Then I would have to kiss everybody."

Maybe you would care try a listen too, if you have care for Blues / Americana music.
Good to see you doing reactions again. RUclips is being a real pain to several of the channels I subscribe to so you're not alone in that. Maybe pausing songs once or twice might alleviate some of the copyright claims? I'm no expert so I'm just guessing...I hear a lot of other reactors pausing because of said issue.
I wish Floor would sing this song to me as a lullaby every night...in person though haha! Her voice is so mesmerizing here! I felt like I was in a trance...unfortunately it ended and I woke up. Like timomastosalo said, the song is very soothing.
