  • FINISHING My custom front bumper on the Subaru Swapped Porsche 911S!
The ST Flares on the Porsche required I "section" the front bumper and cut a chunk out of the middle. I think it turned out great!

This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

This build needs to be seen and admired. This is truly a custom build just to keep the 911S looking like a 911S with flair.

You said you were in a hurry to finish the body work on your car but DON'T hurry!! Every step is important.!! Make sure you don't rush when you need to spend more time building a stronger bridge between the left and right sides of the hole you will be cutting out for the air to come into the fans.
The paint stick is a good start but I don't believe that is enough for the big cut in the middle of the bumper. I would suggest a stick longer and wider than, perhaps about 14"long and 2" wide. Remember this wide open space is a weak point, you have a lowered car - L.A. area has shitty, pothole ridden streets that twists the car's body when your tires bottom out in them. If the bumper cracks so does the paint and what a huge pain +$$.
    - use a bigger stick (length x width), glass it in place, let it harden
    - use 40 grit sandpaper disk on a drill motor to knock off high points.
    - then cut strips of mat 2" wide x what length works in that space and lay them down at 45 degrees, coat with resin and let it harden
    - grind off the high points.- lay down the same 2" strips but this time the 45 angle goes the other way. This creates tension/strength.
    - grind off the high points, then lay a full piece of mat material on it the full length and and width with resin/hardner and smooth the surface.
    - grind off the high points and paint if you are a fanatic ;-)
Michael you are so good at everything else on the car you should see fiberglass and resin as one of your many challenges that will make you a complete DIY person

Great job mate. When I did the same work to my BMW I had to cut the bumper in half . I was also not happy with the way the bumper mated to the front arches. I fibreglassed the bumper to the arch and ground it down and reshaped it and then cut and seperated the bumper from the arch. It looked so much better as both pieces fitted perfectly. Thanks for the video.

Mike, love your work there dude! The way you've integrated bits of the old shell into the new project, in this case the inlet ducring. Super neat finish to your bumper/wing junctions etc... It looks (better than) stock. A+

Hey dude, love the build! Just a thought H6’s get a bit hot under load, not sure if your of your plans, but would fit a large oil cooler to help with engine cooling or head gasket issue in the future. Just a suggestion.

Just wondered if you had watched any of the resent Retro Power videos where they talk about why ‘spot’ welding seems etc is not a good idea and just seem weld everything in one hit? This ‘spot’ / grind welding technique is a RUclips ‘thing’, professional panel beaters just seem weld and panel beat so they get better quality and looking welds with out holes and porosity and is ultimately quicker?

High Five! Awesome, your mounting idea for the two front bolts should work for me too. What about your far right and left side? Did you put a tab there and have them mount to the fenders?

The more hardener you add then the more brittle the resin is usually?
