I was a laborer and later on an equipment operator, and I can tell everyone that usually the mentality is (" we bid this job close so you guys need to hurry the hell up" ) management for the most part do not want to spend the time or money to do underground utilities safely ,which in turn means slowly. all they ask at the end of each day is "how much pipe did you get in today" .and let me tell you it's never enough.anytime you get in a big hurry underground you or someone else most likely will pay the price.i used to dig my ditches where I would feel safe going in.and if management didn't like my speed I would just tell them . "I want these guys to go home to their babies tonight " end of story
I do this kind of work and while the company is somewhat responsible for not complying with safety standards, you still have a responsibility to yourself and your family to protect yourself. He should not have went back in that trench.
Remember your boss pays you not to be able to afford to live in his neighborhood so don't put your life in his hands when he short cuts safety on the job.
Shady contractors just care about making money as quickly as possible. They will knowingly conduct illegal work until they get caught. And don't be surprised if they shut down the business and start another business under a relatives name and different company name. The contractors own words will be used against him to send him to prison.
enter go back and check the quality of the houses these scum have built . if they cut corners in trench safety , they probably do it during the construction phase
All it takes is a 4ft deep trench to collapse on you crush you your dead 8ft deep tell me you've never done dirt work with out telling me. 8ft deep needs to be benched 2 or three times so 16 to 24 ft bench to be safe depending on type of material being dug mr know it all
I've heard from construction workers themselves that that's very common here in the USA. The uncommon thing is that the victims this time were NOT hispanic.
I build tower cranes in Miami. My crews crane fell out the foundation in Delray. Different company had a tower section break off the crane durning a climb catapults 1 man 45 stories. Water balloon effect when he hit the concrete. Rumors had it they're trying to say it was a freak accident but lack of safety since he wasn't tied off is the thing
Mexicans know how to haul A. And I've SEEN them do stuff like this! More than once! On their own. Nobody told them to do it or forced them. Roofers are the worst. I've seen them run up a peaked roof with no line on. I've seen them go from a 2.5 floor landing to top of 2 story peaked roof--NO safety! They think it makes them less manly, or something. I've known Poles to do stuff like that, too.
What ive learned it's usually small business owners who cut corners to save money... Anywhere they can save a dollar they will, even if it means someone could get killed....
Let's follow your logic, guy number one walks off the job as the trench collapsed twice on him, then workers hires guy number three who it collapses on.
@@kennethsouthard6042worker number #1 calls OSHA and make a “life threatening hazard” complaint, jobsite is shut down & business owner is in DEEP SHIT. Problem solved. I hope that young man rests peacefully.
FOR ALL YOU YOUNG BUCKS: If your boss ever says some shit like “we play the odds” fucking run.
I thought that was a callous thing to say when it doesn’t include his personal life.
I hope they use that against him in court.
And call every authority you can to investigate. No playing when it comes to people lives.

Damn
As a safety, you have zero excuses not to have used a trench box, that's why I keep two logbooks, one for you, and one for the court.
But it would have cost too much money and cut into profits!

Money has more value than people 🤷
😊😊
Always has, and always will.
Too many business owners could care less about the safety of their employees, including corporations.

Gotta cut every corner to compete with the illegals.

All those cookie cutter neighborhoods the houses are complete junk.
8x8 trench is pretty damn wide and can be kept safe

The only ways it's kept safe is 1. Using a trench box, 2. Sloping, 3. Shoring, 4, digging a bell hole around it, etc
No trench box ... They are despicable ppl .
Just digging graves when you do it wrong!

These men made millions off labor
Well where the hell were the town inspectors ?? Where the hell was OSHA ?? Who 6
Osha doesn’t just show up typically. Someone needs to call
They were making sure people had 6 ‘ and masks on 🤦♀️ cheaper to pay the fines than be safe daily
City inspectors in small towns and counties typically only inspect what is done. Not HOW it is done.
Osha can't even pick up the phone and their voicemail inbox is full
Wonder if they would play the odds gambling with their life
Replacements are lined up on our southern border.
For 1/3 the cost.....but along with them are 10's of thousands of criminals waiting to steal everything. Biden/Harris open border 💩💩show!
Im sorry but if he went back in the trench after if had already collapsed twice that say alone then it's his own fault .
smdh
Employers still liable for not only allowing this but forcing him to be in that trench.
