Another advanced class in the 'Oblique' & 'Ellipse' bends. CAD to Physical to CAD. Tay brings it back to basics with a little logic. If you are ever in Roanoke and have a dream about something you want, these guys can knock it out. This is a Great Shop that is ever creative.
Subscribed off of two year-old video you had just was going around looking through videos of plasma cutters I am a plasma install tech we install bigger machines than you use, but just thought I’d let you know you got a new subscriber lol
The first shop I worked at I got to play with an 8’ tapered roller and learned so much from the owner about cold rolling/bending. I know you weren’t making a circle but when you do pre roll the last 6-12” to you radius checking with a template prior to turning the material around to increase press with the roller. Hope that makes sense but it worked great. Very seldom did we have to modify after the fact.
An ellipse is the shape traced around two focal points, such that for all points on the curve, the sum of the two distances to the focal points is a constant. It's actually a really rigorous definition if you compare it to something like an involute or epicycloid.
When I cut cnc plasma stuff that's going to have other stuff welded to it, if I don't use tab and slot, I program in a little 1/16" external pip ▲ in the edge to mark the spot. When it's all welded up I grind it off. No need for a template. Also good for marking centerlines and other stuff.
Want to up the geometry challenge tell your CAD to generate a 'proper' scalable logarithmic scroll (so not an approximation of quadrants). Got it sorted in the end but 🥜'y. Nice job on the table too 👍
I find with elliptical shapes just lay it out then roll it, with slip rolls can do a compound radius.. Then beat it over a mandrel 🤣 Don't over think it
That's the kind of fabrication I like to see. You rock !

I've built furniture pieces from steel, and I have to say you did an excellent job creating a very delicate piece using steel. Well done!
That is likeable & useable artsy-fartsy, a cool design! Great stuff, thanks for taking us thru it all ! 👍👍
Uncle Bob's here supporting Lift Arc Studios!
Nice work, and a beautiful table. What great way to make use of a sink cutout!
Beautiful table. Love the curve int he legs. Like you say… it’s almost like you can make nice stuff.
Nice job by you and your crew. Stay safe.
I love the way Tay fabs things. Amazing piece.
You have assembled a good team...which can be difficult to find these days
That means a lot, we’re all lucky to be able to make cool things together!
Sweet looking table!
You can tell Richard Petty was really impressed by the table.

Very nice!

Have you managed to fix the roller, or does it still sound like it's chewing on nails?
Best way of copying a none standard elypse is to photo from the top. Then trace it from the image in CAD, scale it and clean it up.
Surprise, you haven't invested in a Hossfeld Bender since you're doing furniture and ornamental iron work.
Did we lose Aaron in the shop? I haven't seen him lately or I'm blind lol
if it gets coffee gets spilt on it ,it needs drains
An ellipse is everything but well defined. Try to calculate the circumference 😎

Good video except at 21:20 I couldn't understand a word you were saying??
Where’s Arron been?
Spite didn't allow for the curriculture of the legs
Enjoying the trials of ovality in this one...
