I like the looks of that rig.

Thanks! its a older version of the one you reworked already ( ruclips.net/video/i_pB-eUwLWg/видео.html ), and might take up a wee bit more bench space, but it's a survivor and will be restored to full functionality, and reasonable looks. I did, pick up a second one, with a terribly defective /fried open 20 Watt power resistor array components, and I may make a separate vid on just replacing those with modern components

@@oldavguywholovesRCA I can't say that I have the electronics background that you, and many other content creators have here, but, I try to do things so it looks like someone that knows what they were doing worked on it.
I enjoy the learning process, as well as the "hunting" for parts or creating different ways of doing things as well

Hello Again!! I am in the process of restoring this same unit right now. The unit was in mint condition in its original box. First thing I did is replace all the front jacks with modern banana type sockets. Cleaned up all the switches and replaced several capacitors. All the circular-tube type capacitors are leaky and values have changed.
So I drew out a diagram and sort of schematic so I know where all the wires will go.
Next comes the capacitor replacement. I saw you other videos about how to Do It the Right Way!! I have not decided what path I will take yet, as I have a lot of projects pending here in the Ham Shack!
I was wondering if I took my Hot Air de-soldering tool and heated up the existing capacitors and would they just pull out???
My gut feeling is they would not come apart, but nothing to loose for trying...
I am writing this BEFORE I even watch the video... I have several decade boxes at this point in time, but the KEY to Sencore is that their switches are made to Parallel or series several of the capacitors to get to the desired value.. This allows for less capacitors resulting in Higher Voltages, but we know that a 10Uf 450 volt capacitor today is rathe small in size..
I personally like to use 600 volt not 450 but only if they will in fact fit. At least the RC121 has a nice large case.
Your other restoration required that you replace the switch, that will work but requires more capacitors. Luckily my switch is in perfect condition..
OH!!! BTW, thanks for the tip with the UV Light! Never thought about that, so I ordered one off Amazon, it arrives today.. I also saw someone using a Thermal Imaging camera to look for hot spots, I have a high quality Fluke, but never though about using it that way to look at hot spots with Vacuum Tube radios...
I only retired a few years ago, never had a chance to sit and watch RUclips videos on repairing and restoring equipment. Covid changed all that!
Learn a LOT from all you folks. Been in Electronics for 50 years, always willing to learn new trick of the trade from Smart Folks like you!! 🙂
Will enjoy watching this series of videos...

Thanks for your comments and feedback! Starting out with a item in reasonably good condition will make the work less complicated for sure, the tough part is to find one with a properly functioning slider switch on the far right, as that switch operates the discharge resistor function, is spring loaded with one of its mounting pins used as a latch to keel the capacitor connection in circuit until released, and that single part/function cannot be easily recreated nor is a viable modern replacement produced. I can't say that my capacitor replacement of the E-Caps was "the right way" , as some may choose to put in terminal strips and make them more accessible for future replacements, but my version of restuffing the original "dynamite sticks" looks more original, does not take up any more space or create mounting issues then the originals, and and can also be re-entered fairly easily if a future rework is needed. I chose to make some test cords with 2mm banana plugs to use the original jacks, which were cleanable, and that saved me some disassembly work as well. Good luck with your restoral! 👍

@@poormanselectronicsbench2021 My slide switch is OK. I will mount the new capacitors on a terminal switch. The new Banana jacks on the front look very nice. I will send you a picture when I get it completed along with a dozen other summer time projects, In The Heat!!! 😞
