Great episode. Shetlands is on my bucket list. I’m norwegian and started following you two when you had better luck with the weather up our beautiful coast, but you need to know that the kinship and friendship between Shetland and Norway goes beyond the viking past. I don’t know if you’ve heard about the Shetland Bus? During the war Norwegians fled the nazis in small primitive boats to reach safety in the UK, Shetland was generally the place you’d land if you were lucky to make it across. The North Sea here is unforgiving and harsh. Many of the refugees stayed in Shetlands and a military service started called the Shetland Bus started crossing the North Sea to Norway bringing weapons and spies going one way and taking refugees on the way back. The trips were done in small fishing vessels in horrendous conditions while always being at risk of being sunk by German planes or ships. These guys were heroes. And they were so well treated and welcomed by the shetlanders that since then there are strong ties between our people. Some of the men married and stayed after tge war. We feel very strongly and proud of our connection to Shetlands and their people. ❤
I'm from the US and traveled solo to Up Helly Ah in 2017 and had the BEST TIME. As a world traveler, It ranks up there with the best travel experiences in my life. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I came back from Shetland 2 years ago after working up there during the 2nd lockdown. What a wonderful place, I didn’t want to come home! It’s was awful being back in England after the peace and tranquility up there! It will always have huge part in my ❤.
Well done guys, you did Shetland vanning in winter, brave sods 👏👏👏👏 we have been going to Shetland since 2013 but not experienced the weather you have. Go back in August and enjoy the swimming and the wildlife 👍🏻👍🏻
Live for today. As a 20 year old I met and dated a true adventurer for 18 months. She ended up living and raising a family in Canada. She died aged just 60 of a terrible illness that put her into a wheelchair. She reminds me of this young RUclipsr when we were both young.
This was an absolutely brilliant episode guys....... literally jam packed with content. Credit to your editing skills Tom, clear to see the work you put in. What a place to visit. That festival looked good fun. Where are you heading next?
Never cease to amaze me. Absolutely fantastic content: humour (Tom's muddy face) drama (stormy winds and vikings) and history (Isobel's favourite subject 😊). Why you are not employed by a national broadcaster to show your talents, amazes me. ARE YOU WATCHING BBC AND ITV ???
I just love your spirit of life. The way that you end up embracing whatever the experience you have even if you have a bit of a struggle getting there some time. What you too do for this old man is to keep inspiring me to give life "a good squeeze" as the Irish put it.
Hi guys, by the power invested in me by no-one at all, I hereby bestow upon you the status of honorary Scots for showing off our country so well. I must visit Shetland and your enthusiasm encourages me. Stay safe.
Amazing vlog. It brought back so many memories of the week we spent there at Easter 2018, the ferry, pod, fish and chip shop, beaches and so much more !!
Shetland's quite a place! Yellow wind warnings are one thing but it's when they're combined with yellow rain warnings that you've got to be careful. It means that a sheep upwind of you might be having a pish! 😉
I nearly didn't watch this one, I thought how interesting can Shetland be in winter. How wrong was I, totally brilliant video. Thanks for all the hard work to make it. Good luck on the return ferries.
Yes, I realise that now. I do love Scotland and have motorcycle toured there several times but never thought of Shetland before, May have to visit soon but it's a long way from Devon.
I have followed you throughout so may countries but I must say that was amazing. The insight you have given , about those Islands that so many people have never even heard of was spectacular . Well done ☘
Another really enjoyable video from you. We made our first visit to Shetland in 2020 when we couldn’t travel abroad and have been back a further two times as we enjoyed it so much. Like you we liked the remoteness and the wild of the place. Would love to go again for Up Helly Aa.
Welcome to shetland!! The northlink is a journey I make with my van every three weeks when I come back up here for work. You are certainly brave for coming up in the middle of winter but glad you got to see Up Helly Aa while you were here 🔥🔥
There's nothing that deters you two and indeed La Bamba from exploring. You've shown the Shetland Isles in your distinctive style that methinks everyone loves. Great music.🎵 Absolutely top shelf content once again. Next weeks Vlog...🤔 👏👏☘
Try watching the detective series SHETLAND. You'll love it The Shetlands are one of the stars of the show. Doug Henshaw is simply amazing! ( The show is part of a series of books by a local). I wish SHETLAND would never end it's so good.
Lived in Shetland for 35 years People have died from exposure just walking a few mile to a friends house. Watch out for Shetland door always park your car into the wind if you dont the winds are that strong that when you open your car door the wind folds it against your front wing. There are park ups with electric in many areas on the islands which you seemed to have missed Also if you know where to look there are hard stands near most of the beachs and dunes. All the plastic you see on the beachs comes from the Americas the Shetlanders have regular cleanups as you saw when you opened the bin It's a thankless task North mavine is where the vikings dragged their boats across from the north sea into the Atlantic save them a lot of time sailing around the top ends of the islands The shetlanders are cracking people who will help anyone in distress and make you feel very very very welcome
Jez that was a fabulous vlogg. Sorry you got stuck. But lovely to know that people are so kind to help. Thanks a million for another amazing time with you xxxx
Great work guys. A nice insight for next year for us Aussies. Just a suggestion add so costs for the ferry etc just to give us an idea. Up Helly Aa has been on our bucket list for years. We have accommodation and a car booked for next year already. Loved the old ruins you visited. Thats on our list now. Safe travels. Love from Oz 🇦🇺
Thank you for making a fantastic video. That was some adventure, between winds, getting stuck and the epic festive, it was a whirlwind adventure. Really loved the woolly viking hats.
Tom, that shirt looks spectacular on you! You make beige look fantastic! Great finds, Isabelle! I loved your sweater too! Yellow is hard to pull off, but you wear it marvelously! It looks absolutely splendid on you!
Absolutely brilliant film. After following you around the WAW in Ireland next year, Shetland is another destination on our 'bucket list' in our van too! Was there a number of times in the 1980's whilst at sea and always vowed to return for a proper look around. Not sure we could make it for Up Helly Aa; perhaps we cold fly up for the festival! Thanks again for making such an interesting and professional film, wonderful. Helen and Andy.
Dear love you.... You shouldn't feel bad going down the wrong road, when you think of all the travels and places visited, you do so well!!! Great to see you both and all you are doing... Love Rosemary in Belfast xx
Nice. When you feel the lives of people from so long ago. I went to catal huyuk in 1980. It was snowing and I was the only one there. The caretaker stayed in his hut. Great feeling of one-ness with the past.
BRILLIANT! 😊 Loads of fun.....guys - so funny and entertaining 🤣 No, surprised that you are recognised .... Throughly got face craic watching you.... Just gets better. X
Superb video, brings back so many memories. I lived on Unst for nearly 2 years, 1987-88, whist stationed at RAF Saxa Vord and fell in love with the island way of life. I've been back to Lerwick several times in the intervening period, but never for more than 24 hours. This video has galvanised my desire to return, in a campervan, and revisit all of the places I haven't seen in 35 yrs.
Thanks guys, that was another fantastic video. What a fabulous place Shetland looks and you guys are going to cost me a fortune with the amount of stuff I keep adding to my wishlist everytime I watch you! 😅 - BTW, Tom getting splattered with mud was pure comedy gold, as much for Iz's reaction if anything 😅👍
This is the first time i have seen your videos and had to immediately subscribe. Really loved watching all the adventures, rich cultural history. So much joy. Thank you so much
That was a proper adventure, great vlog. On my bucket list to go back there, went as a kid and I agree with Iz, it looked Caribbean with the sand and sea. Weather looked brutal but the folks you befriended brightened you up. Top tip, reduce the tyre pressures in your drive axle to get more traction. You'll need to have a way to pump them back up though!
Love watching you two. You have such a laugh and make so many lovely memories for you both and us watching. I laughed so much after seeing Tom's face splattered with mud🤣🤣🤣
Totally amazing! Wonderfully produced. Delightful narrative. Inspiring! Blessings to you both from us outlaws, misfits, bandits and grifters from the ranching country of Caldwell County Texas, US of A. Stay well, stay happy.
Did not think there was much to say about the Shetland Island, except wind, wind and more wind. This was a very lovely video full of so much history and the festival was amazing. Had to laugh when poor old Tom got mud all over him and he was not overly happy that Isabell was laughing at his demise. New to you channel came across it by chance.
We were in the Shetlands in our van in October. We went to all the same places as you guys. We had a few sunny blue sky days, whilst we were there, but also some stormy days too. I loved the Shetlands and was sad to leave. It’s truly a beautiful place. So glad you went for up helly ha! Well done!
I’m loving this, the absolute cultural phenomenon that you two managed to capture so so well, thank you soooo much, it’s now on my bucket list , old owl 🦉. Alaya …a pixie on a mission !
We have been in the same situation on the Isle of Islay last year, not fun 🙄 Spent the night stuck in the mud but like you guys we where saved by a friendly farmer and his tractor 😁 Your Shetland video was great and makes us desperate to head back to Shetland but with our van 😍 thanks again for a great video 😍
Ive been watching your videos for a few months and I think this is the first time I've commented. Brilliant! I loved this episode (as well as the nepalese ones) and thank you for the pleasure and laughs its given me. It certainly now wants to make me go up to the Shetland's (maybe when it's not as windy, haha!). The Viking burning of the ship was spectacular and I think you painted a better picture than say the BBC or any of the major channels could do.
Thank you so much for letting us share your journey with you. It was awesome to see the countryside and the ruins that you went to. It looks like the people were very kind and also love to party! Please be safe don't get stuck again, look forward to your next Adventures!
Loved it guys … we spent a month in Shetland a few years ago … during the summer .. and what a difference in the weather .. in fact one day Shetland was the warmest place in the UK …. Have always wanted to head to the Viking festival and this just makes us want to do it more …. Safe travels guys ….
Hey Tom & Iz. Yet another fab presentation video. As a seasoned editor using FCP X, I must say Tom that you’ve really honed your skill at using the software. Impressive comes to mind and obviously, well done mate. Iz, a lot of good you did when ye got yourselves stuck in the mud🤣😂 Hilarious encounter. Anyway, great travels and an impressive adventure up to Shetland. I travelled there a few years ago on a Honda Goldwing 1800 cc cruiser, and loved the place. Unlike your weather, we enjoyed beaut sunshine and swam every day. So have super travels you too and stay safe and looking forward to your next trip. You are certainly an entrepôt duo. Jim😊
Another brilliant episode. So much better than traditional TV programmes and without a huge costly crew of people involved! It must have been difficult filming when worried about being stuck in the mud. I hope I find time to catch up on all episodes. Great stuff.
I live in Shetland on the main island, it's snowing a good few inches deep right now. I've lived here for nearly 5 years and you do used to the weather. Recommend coming in June - August instead of winter, get very long days (Simmer Dim is the day the sun doesn't set) and a lot more wildlife sights like puffins, gannets, orcas, humpback whales etc
Hi guys. Great vlog tonight. Really good to see you had decent ferry crossings even if it was a bit rough. Fantastic to see the shetlands in the winter. Keep safe guys.
Lovely video, both so full of the joy of adventure. You actually look and sound sooooo much like our youngest Daughter, nothing stops her either but in a similar fun and beautiful way, go young'uns 💪❤️
This was the first time I've caught your videos and thoroughly enjoyed it. Living in Orkney it held particular interest for me. You're right the beaches do look like the Caribbean up here when the sun shines, unfortunately there isn't the heat. But if there was it would be overcrowded and lose it's specialness. And never rely on gps 😂 ask a local. Will be following your journey. Take care and thanks for the joy you're spreading🚐 🥰♥️
been to shetlands twice, 1st time by plane, 2nd time by boat! i enjoyed it especially as i had 2 completely different experiences. also been to the orkneys, horrible crossing from scrabster to stromness, 2 hours of throwing up!!
Country folk are the best, they saved us in a few different mess ups as a youngster.. its nothing to them to help you out and put you up for the night. It' was a revelation to me at the time.
What a wonderful share of a unique experience. 13 hour and three ferry journey...oh my, had not idea. But since I am Irish/Scottish, I think I might want to get over there and experience my ancestors' culture sometime. Sail Vikings!
😂this one had me laughing at Iz laughing at Tom’s muddy face. Seriously entertaining vlog, as always!! Those knitted Viking hats looked great on you btw!!
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Great video guys. Tom covered in mud made me laugh, it's happened to me so I can understand the sense of humour failure. Stay safe you two.
That was fabulous! I would love to go back to Shetland and do it properly by car (maybe carcamp). Our visit to Lerwick was for a day by cruise ship (same with Orkney). My elderly sister in law (former district nurse) wasn’t well so had the pleasure of being treated in the most northerly NHS hospital in the British Isles. It was interesting in the waiting room listening to the local accent , distinctive. Thanks for showing the ferry set up as that’s how I would like to go. Might take a deep breath and she’ll out for a cabin though. Great stuff guys! 🙏

I wouldn't be crazy proud of the Vikings invading islands that were inhabited by Picts tbh
Try coming over on a sailing boat.. I think they still do the Bergen to lerwick race every year.. Someone will give you a berth.. 🎉
I'm from the US and traveled solo to Up Helly Ah in 2017 and had the BEST TIME. As a world traveler, It ranks up there with the best travel experiences in my life. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Yes ditto jojohonywill. An absolute joy…….!
Sunday evenings were never so good!

Well done guys, you did Shetland vanning in winter, brave sods 👏👏👏👏 we have been going to Shetland since 2013 but not experienced the weather you have. Go back in August and enjoy the swimming and the wildlife 👍🏻👍🏻
I was there for three weeks last August, worst summer for years according to locals - diesel heater was mich needed - but I loved it !

What an adventure for you both & for us to watch 👍
What an amazing vlog. Cheers Iz, Tom. 🍻👍 thanks for taking us along.
What a brilliant episode, packing so many interesting sights and sounds, and yes you obviously enjoyed the adventure, well done.
I have photos of Saint Ninians Isle beach with my Scouts sunbathing in August 1969. The most beautiful of beaches. 🏴🇦🇺
That vlog was just brilliant 👏
Great atmosphere, full of excitement and celebration.
Well done again 👏
The musicians in the pub were fantastic - and SO fast!! Also, the actual video finished the world became very silent. Superb. Thanks

What an adventure for you .Looks like you really enjoyed it despite the weather. I'm a Shetlander myself . Great video thank you.
One of the most intense towing out rescues ever !!! Lesson learned!!! Best of luck with your travels & take care 👍👍
Ahhh so glad you visited Shetland. I love the northern isles not been for a while. Amazing !
Nothing like Shetland. Great place. Lovely people.
I nearly didn't watch this one, I thought how interesting can Shetland be in winter. How wrong was I, totally brilliant video. Thanks for all the hard work to make it. Good luck on the return ferries.
The winter is when our Islands are the most interesting, you silly goose.

I’m truly glad that there are people such as you and equally glad I wasn’t chosen to be one of your number. Love and happiness to you both.
😂😂😂
Lived in Shetland for 35 years
People have died from exposure just walking a few mile to a friends house.
Watch out for Shetland door always park your car into the wind if you dont the winds are that strong that when you open your car door the wind folds it against your front wing.
There are park ups with electric in many areas on the islands which you seemed to have missed
Also if you know where to look there are hard stands near most of the beachs and dunes.
All the plastic you see on the beachs comes from the Americas the Shetlanders have regular cleanups as you saw when you opened the bin
It's a thankless task
North mavine is where the vikings dragged their boats across from the north sea into the Atlantic save them a lot of time sailing around the top ends of the islands
The shetlanders are cracking people who will help anyone in distress and make you feel very very very welcome
That was some tow out😃😃😃
Jez that was a fabulous vlogg. Sorry you got stuck. But lovely to know that people are so kind to help. Thanks a million for another amazing time with you xxxx
I lived in Shetland for six years.
A cabin with a bed is essential !
Believe me !
Stumbled across this while working in Nigeria. I was born & bred in Shetland and thoroughly enjoyed the content. Glad you had a nice time 😁👍🏻
Tom, that shirt looks spectacular on you! You make beige look fantastic! Great finds, Isabelle! I loved your sweater too! Yellow is hard to pull off, but you wear it marvelously! It looks absolutely splendid on you!

Absolutely superb video, so enjoyable. Laughed nonstop after Tom was subjected to the mud splatter.
Nice. When you feel the lives of people from so long ago. I went to catal huyuk in 1980. It was snowing and I was the only one there. The caretaker stayed in his hut. Great feeling of one-ness with the past.
Great video guys! Lovely to see you still wearing your Irish hat Tom! Love from Dublin!
BRILLIANT! 😊
Loads of fun.....guys - so funny and entertaining 🤣
No, surprised that you are recognised ....
Throughly got face craic watching you....
Just gets better. X
Such an adventure!! This is a wonderful video 👍
Superb video, brings back so many memories. I lived on Unst for nearly 2 years, 1987-88, whist stationed at RAF Saxa Vord and fell in love with the island way of life.
Might be worth investing in a winch as well ( use an anchor to pull yourself out ! )
Love watching you two. You have such a laugh and make so many lovely memories for you both and us watching. I laughed so much after seeing Tom's face splattered with mud🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic, better than most travel documentaries that make it to mainstream tv, keep safe ❤
Totally amazing! Wonderfully produced. Delightful narrative. Inspiring! Blessings to you both from us outlaws, misfits, bandits and grifters from the ranching country of Caldwell County Texas, US of A. Stay well, stay happy.

Every experience is valuable and you know what to do when you are being pulled out of the mud now!
Thank you both it made us smile. Brilliant x

Really enjoyed this video one off your best - wouldn’t worry about the van slidey too much we all do things like this that what makes our memories
Hey Tom & Iz. Yet another fab presentation video. As a seasoned editor using FCP X, I must say Tom that you’ve really honed your skill at using the software. Impressive comes to mind and obviously, well done mate.
Iz, a lot of good you did when ye got yourselves stuck in the mud🤣😂
Hilarious encounter.
Anyway, great travels and an impressive adventure up to
Shetland.

Hi guys. Great vlog tonight. Really good to see you had decent ferry crossings even if it was a bit rough. Fantastic to see the shetlands in the winter. Keep safe guys.

I can’t believe they are going to burn that amazing boat. Thank you for sharing. I only got as far as the Orkneys.
Very nice; that site you visited reminds me a lot of Skara Brae in the Orkneys ... isn't the remoteness of the Shetlands and Orkneys just great!
Fantastic video! The sheer joy of your trip just shines through! 🎉
I’m so glad I’ve found you. your both full of energy and cracking content and funny :) so happy to follow your videos

I love how you guys don't do things by half ..let's go north, Nah ..Lets Go Really North !! Really enjoyed this weeks adventure Tom & Izzy :o)
Amazing place and video guys. One for the bucket list here for sure.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Great video guys. Tom covered in mud made me laugh, it's happened to me so I can understand the sense of humour failure. Stay safe you two.
Another great video, thanks guys.
How bad. Went to Skaw beach with Dad in July. It was amazing. A seal followed us all along. I’ll never forget it x
Great to hear you enjoyed your trip to Shetland and Up Helly Aa!
Iz, you're so bonkers, and so lovely. Great vlog as always. Thanks for all your efforts 😁
it was so beautiful to see your eyes going from stressed when the van got stuck to them glistening with life during the festival 💞
Great video guys. Keep them coming!!
Brilliant as always
What a great place to be stuck in!
