THE START OF SOMETHING BIG (The Wild Atlantic Way || Donegal)

  • Опубликовано: 13 авг 2024
  • This week we are in Donegal where we begin the Wild Atlantic Way! A 2500km journey following the west coast of Ireland from top to bottom.
We wake up on the cliffs with sheep for company and watch the sun rise over Northern Ireland. Our first stop is a small beach at the base of the cliffs where seals swim and the sun creeps above the horizon. We find a tap in the car park and make the most of it filling our water before heading off.
Our next stop is Malin Head, Ireland's most northern point. The cliffs are shear and jagged. We then drive on to our park up for the night where Isabel manages to over flow the grey water tank soaking the space below the sink and over reacting to the severity of what has happened.
The next day we decide to find gas having eaten our fill of sandwiches. We call up a caravan supply shop near Letterkenny and are pleased to find they have them in stock. Heading further along the coast we come pass countless stunning beaches before setting up camp in Carrickart for the night.
The next day Isabel decided's to face her anxieties and get behind the wheel. We visit castles, cliffs, headlands and beaches. After hearing that a storm is rolling in tomorrow we make a dash inland to climb the beautiful mountain of Errigal. It is a very boggy and steep climb. After our hike we are exhausted and seek out a pub. We are able to stay in the carpark there.
The next day the storm arrives. we dodge hail showers and battle gales as we make our way down through donegal. Huge waves role in off the Atlantic and the Wild Atlantic Way certainly feels wild! We visit Sleive League, towering cliffs that punch out of the water. feeling suitably windswept we again make for the nearest pub, The Rusty Mackerel. We are greeted by live music, great Guinness and excellent company.
Waking after a night on the grog we head to the cliffs to get our hangovers blown away before heading to a peaceful lock where we relax and recoup.
This was a pretty busy week, we did so much!
This really was a whistle stop video, but i hope you enjoyed it. If so please give us a like.
Next week we will be continuing our expeditions further down the coast. If you would like to see what we get up to please subscribe.
    Thanks for watching,
    All the best,
    Tom & Isabel

Watching this video from Australia. My parents lived in Donegal for 20 years, have so many lovely memories of this place. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thankyou for making my day and safe travels to you. No doubt because of the covid situation it may be a long time before I return, so your videos have meant a lot to me. We still have family over there. Thankyou once again !

For a Donegal man living in Cornwall to hear a Cornish man praise Donegal, is a real treat. Glad you both loved the Donegal experience, it is a very special place, very much like the north coast of Cornwall. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Very sad I wasn't following you guys whilst passing through Derry-Donegal. My parents live on the beach in Inch Island (a great spot along the WAW), and would have been more than happy to host you. An incredible shell beach, British military forts, ruined castles, lime kilns and nature walks - it's worth a visit/google.
If you do happen to return (in warmer months perhaps!) - I'll make sure to be on the ball, the invite is always open.
Great videos guys, nice to see your homeplace represented so well by very genuine people. Safe onward travels and keep up the good work! I hope your genuinity and content continues to be reflected in a growing following and viewers!

Tonight. Just started watching your adventures(in order) from episode 1.((Larne-Derry)
I must have visited all of Ireland’s 32 countries over my lifetime and it is great to see you both visiting some of the same spots that I have previously visited.
In my top few locations to visit, was Tory Island off the coast of Donegal . The population was only around 200 people when we visited, with the vast majority speaking Gaelic or Norwegian. It was so authentic, like being brought back in time, with the most fantastic, views and sea food served up at the only hotel on the island. If you decide to drive around a second time, I can full recommend it as a day out. !!
Yesterday. Watched your Christmas Day video which was great. I’m now going to be disaplined and watch your videos in order and catch up.
We had our honeymoon in West Cork so I’ll be defo interested to see do you visit some of the same places we did.
I too drive a Transit but I would not dream of sleeping in it 🤣😂 so quodos to you both, braver than me that’s for sure

    Hi Guys
I grew up in Derry during the worst of the troubles and we used to escape to Donegal to get away from it all. It's so nice to see you in the places I used to haunt as a boy like Shrove beach. However, I'm a bit annoyed that you are suggesting Donegal can be a bit cold, wet and blowy. It's a tropical paradise!
Enjoy your trip and come back soon.
    Best wishes
    Liam

Nice Vid. We are hoping to do NI next year. We've done the ROI western side already as we've lived there. I like the logo on the Guiness. Maybe get a Grey water outlet to the outside of the van and when on car parks let it run into a bucket.

    • @LostInTransit
      @LostInTransit  2 года назад

Our water set up is so basic, it's just two 25l tanks one fresh, one grey. It's never normally an issue as when the fresh water runs out the grey will be about full (minus what we drink). It's just that Isabel refilled the fresh without emptying the grey!
