After discovering SM 18 months ago, I now own 5 of their watches.
The fit and finish blows anything in the same price range out of the water - nothing comes close, the materials used are top tier (some of the crystals are amazing), and so far I have had no problems at all with any of their watches.
True, they are mostly homage watches so have little to no design costs (some are just direct copies), but when you look how much you have to pay for similar watches from Seiko for example, it can be 3 or 4 times the price! Take some close macro shots of the transition lines between polished and brushed surfaces and you'll see how good the cases and bracelets are.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always Chris, hope your son is feeling back to 100%.

I’ve owned and reviewed a number of San Martins - they’re easily one of my favourite watch brands (alongside Seiko and Sinn). Sure, they lack originality, but the ‘fun per dollar’ value they offer puts a smile on my face every time I wear one. Thanks for the review!

As Jēzus Meza mentioned, this is an homage of a Rolex 6542. This was done in collaboration with Pan Am airlines back in the late 1950's. Rolex made both black and white dials with a bakelite bezel. I have both the black and white versions that San Martin made in the previous edition. It's a terrific watch at a great value. This new one has a bi-directional bezel which is much more functional. Love this channel!

San Martin within the past year has been stepping up their watch game. I picked up the Bronze 62MAS homage and it's been flawless. I have been a Seiko watch owner going back several years but have learned again throughout the years as I am about to turn age 65 that although Seiko makes nice looking watches they are not as good looking as these Chinese made watches as San Martin, I now have around 6 San Martin watches and find these to be quite well meds and as you indicated in your great review with this GMT model SN005 the San Martin does give Seiko a good run for their money. Seiko must continue to step up in the competitive market in order to not find themselves ‘ falling behind ‘ ..

I much prefer this non fauxtina version. I think they overdid it on the "gilt" version.
That said: I think this is more of an homage to the OG GMT Master.. not the more modern GMT Master II. Even if it were an early Mk II, it should come with an aluminium bezel-insert. And that's the thing with this one: It's still a bit all over the place IMO. Applied indices are nice to have, but don't really fit the vintage theme. Plus they should probably ditch that all red GMT-hand and borrow the one Steinhart are using on their Pussy Galore homage - which is much slimmer and has a more delicate (but un-lacquered) triangle at the tip. Also: Lose the white outline around the date, add a cyclops (OG GMT Masters had one) and make the case look a bit slimmer around the lugs. While 40mm is the "correct" case-size, the original ones look a little less chunky than this one - female endlinks would probably also help in making things look a bit more vintage.

I like sm. But their obsession with closed case backs. Almost always a date. And are overpriced. So have not pulled the trigger.
Pagani Design comes close to sm, but at about a third of the price. And has many no date watches. And the majority of the them come with an exhibition case back. A much better value.

The point is it’s a Homage, so they are stealing from the original manufacturer. I don’t care what the cost is, in my opinion it’s purchasing a fake, and will never go on my wrist. Should just buy a fake Rolex
