Dude, I really appreciate Mad Hatter’s methods, more than most other villains I’ve seen. I’ll tell you why. First, he managed to find and kidnap 3 officers with surnames that fit his overall theme of Alice In Wonderland. Second, he made an entire pop-up/poetry book just for the sake of the aesthetic, and managed to control Batman’s mind with it too. Third, he’s able to keep rhyming all the time, without a single slip-up, and he’s managed to find/make a whole outfit that fits the theme, despite being an actual fucking lunatic. Fourth and finally, Alice In Wonderland is rad as fucking hell. This dude may be stark-raving mad, but you have to admit he has good taste in literature.
It took me two minutes of comment scrolling to find someone compliment him on something other than his rap skills
He's got... two books, tops. That's not good taste, that's hyperfixation. Also, "being insane" isn't one single, all-debilitating condition that prevents everything except evilness.
Winx are better than some Alice in wonderland.
Even better, he manages to trick Cash into finishing one of his rimes!
Leave it to the anime weeb to “appreciate” the pedophile

Oh come on now, stop with the rhymes
Really now? Doesn't it ring any chimes?
No more rhyming, you dolts! I mean it!
Oh come now, don't have a fit.
Oh Jervis Tetch was once so normal, but then he read a book that turned him imformal, he always used to rape the woman, but now he goes for the lame Bat whose broken!
Wait a second...
The Cheshire Cat = Officer KATz.

They made The Mad Hatter more of a threatening psychological villain than Scarecrow. Less talk, more action. Also those nods to Asylum and City? I wish the rest of the game was like the DLC here.
Scarecrow in the first game was absolutely fantastic, what the hell happened here? We will never know probably.
al112v5 It's just a case of the waffles in writing. They just have too much speaking and too little action. Classic mistake.
The Dark Knight The style of him, the voice and look, was great, don't get me wrong. But the writing just let him down.
The Dark Knight He's a great actor but the terrorific perfomance that his character did in the first game was amazing, IMO.
I Do Monologues I felt more threatened here.. Last time yeah I saw a hands on fear gas effect.. But this time he was more threatening overall
Because I'm pretty sure nobody's taken the time to walk around the pages and read the book, this is...

Not a bad tale. Batman wins in the end.
This could be a book
If you read this at the right pace it actually turns into a rhyme
It sucks that they didn't mention Origins considering that the Hatter was there back then.
Can we just acknowledge that Officer Cash is a straight rider since Arkham Asylum? Man was ready for brutality for Batman at the drop of a hat

who's face's gonna get disintegrated like he's made of callay.
Unoriginal, utterly killable little nerd acting like he's got a plan.
Looking less at a blueprint plan more at a face plant from Batman!"

The fact they never made Mad Hatter a more prevalent villain (not in a side quest only, but actually main story) in FOUR games astounds me. He has always fascinated me even as a child and he deserves more representation
He was supposed to be in Arkham asylum and have a maze on the island but Mr dini couldn't figure out how to make it fit in the story.

CheesyGranola Wow thanks for the info. I had no idea.
+thewb39 Honestly, the only time Hatter is interesting to me is when Gail Simone writes the demented little person. Then, he becomes a brilliant masterpiece.
+wdcain1 I have to disagree with that. He's a brilliant piece of work in the hands of Peter MacNicole. He's as much the Hatter as Hamill is Joker
Jaycee Morris
I meant in terms of writing. Honestly, this is exactly how I imagine Jervis Tetch would sound (high-pitch whimsy tone with sinister merriment) so MacNicol is hitting it out of the park. I just don't like the writing; but then, I didn't like Arkham Knight's story at all. It's one saving grace was that it was all delivered beautifully by the voice actors. Except for Tara Strong as Harley Quinn. Strong was just awful here.

I like the parts where the Hatter keeps comparing Batman to Alice here because in a way he's not that far off. Aside from some differences in personalty, both Batman and Alice are a lot alike. They're both odd people with strange ideas and such and they sometimes say and do things that most people would consider crazy even especially if the American McGee Alice we're talking about. Not to mention that both of their respective adventures involve characters who are crazy in their own way and one could argue that some of the Batman villains evoke certain characters from the Alice stories like Killer Croc evoking the Jabberwocky for example.
If you’re in Gotham City, beware Killer Croc. But, if you’re in Wonderland, beware the Jabberwock.
Jervis is tired of kidnapping random blondes and wants batman now
In Ever After High Alice has a son and his father is not Mad Hatter so he will never have his Alice.

No, he’s just insane. Like all of Batman’s enemies. I don’t think therapy exists in the DC Universe.
I like how even though Cash knows who Batman is, he still calls him Batman
He has a lot of respect, he must be a fan.
He says when he brings Scarecrow that if it's all the same to you I'll stick to Batman
Jervis dialogue really hits hard: 18:50 "... Don't you see? You are mad! You are mad! You are just like me!". It is mentioned several times during the Arkham games (and even in other media, like comics and shows) that the reason for Batman's behavior can only be explained by one reason: He's completely insane.
Damn I never noticed that and,in my opinion falling down the rabbit hole and the page turning on your life is just so cool
He's mad, that's true, thus he can't kill, cause if he starts, the blood won't cease to spill.
I find hilarious how genocidal murderers compare themselves to batman,a man who is simply smarter than them and wants to help instead of being a waste of taxes
That smack Batman gave made Hatter though at 18:46. Haha. Thought he couldnt feel pain

@@yanmatos8161 Okay, "dumbass". It's not like some youtubers dwell on youtube for years or anything...
@The 4th Komodo I sometimes get notifications for my comments I made more than 5 years ago, so it's still possible.
Rap has very little to the great art of poetry.
When Asylum and City appeared in the book fight, all I could think of was Joker's comment from the main game, "ahh, memories!"
Firefly:"let there be light! I could do that!"
Blackfire:" cheap pyrotechnics do not scare me, child."
I think the best thing about this game is the stuff the criminals say in the cell.
See, this is why Mad Hatter is my favorite Batman villain (and has been for some time). He just brings that certain niche to the table, you know? I always love seeing the interactions between Bruce and his lesser known villains because they help round out the history between both them and Gotham; that established, varied mythos that exists within Gotham and the lives of its citizens. I also like how these little side-missions remind us that there's specific challenges out there to combat each and every layer of Bruce's fractured psyche (and how Batman conversely combats the villains').
And in the case of Jervis Tetch, I find it really refreshing and interesting to see a character that''s actually inspired by another fictional character; and one who in turn takes that iconic image and bends it into something unsettling and horrific and emotionally complex in a considerably different way than it's been presented before. And in doing that, it just makes his gimmick, that particular obsession, all the more unique and able for him to stand out not only in the Batman rogues gallery, but also in the elaborate smorgasbord that is the Batman universe itself.
Plus, it's kind of intriguing that Hatter's the brainwashing villain in the lineup; a man who feels the need to impose his will on others, to control them, to manipulate them so that they fit into his clean, perfect little world he has created for himself in his head. Funny that his personality suggests the Hatter himself has been brainwashed in the past, or at least traumatized somewhere down the road.
There's just so much potential there. Shame the guy's so underused. I think people forget that Riddler and Mr. Freeze were once the laughing stocks of the Bat-community. And now they're some of Bruce's greatest foes.
Besides, look at him! He's adorable!!! Or he would be . . . . if he wasn't such a whack-ass, crazy little bitch.
21:25 Is Cash & Hatter having rhyming contest?
StraightEdge313 Rap battle
anybody want a peanut?
I died laughing
Lmao seems like it haha
It's how The Mad Hatter was hypnotizing people, the sirens constant wailing and the clocks ticking in his interrogation room/back of the cop car that had no hostage worm their way into one's subconscious and they slowly start unintentionally rhyming with him until they fall into a trance, even batman unintentionally rhymed with The Hatter at 3:16 ("Why yes, there's three! Oh, silly me. The answer's in the book, Batman. Open and see." and Batman responds "Tell me!" which rhymes.) and falls into a trance almost directly after
Then The Mad Hatter says "Through the rhyming words we tumble where villains toil and psyche crumble." in the next few lines.
After he's locked up, Batman asks him how he used the sirens to hypnotize people; which is strange because there weren't any sirens when Batman got hypnotized. This could be due to the fact that watches have been a part of hypnotism as a concept for a long time and Batman already understood how that worked, but is unexplained. Rhythm itself is the source of his power, it's the relevant aspect of both the ticking and the constant droning of the sirens share with The Mad Hatter's rhyming prose other than being a sound.
Once Batman started reading it, saying it in his own mind; apparently even his famed willpower had to strain to avoid being completely hypnotized.
"Oo frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! The Batman's here, it's time to play."
The way he says "here"... Wow. I now have new-found respect for this guy.. Needs to be in a movie for sure.
I love how unrelentingly creepy Hatter is in Arkham Knight. He's way too simple to just be made a "gimmicky comedic" type of villain, but this did wonders to show how Tetch could be menacingly villainous.
That said, I still think the live-action Gotham version of Hatter is the scariest, but to be fair, it's difficult to top what's pretty much an arc villain in a game like Arkham Knight.
“Downnn the rabbit hole you fall where madness reigns from wall to wall. Through the rhyming words we tumble, where villains toil and psyches crumble”
I just found that to be so creepy and epic at the same time the words, rhyming and creepy voice. They really embodied the twisted, depraved mind of Jervis Tetch in this game.
11:50 "I miss Scarecrow's speeches. Felt real Halloween'y. Riddler's funnier though." The funniest non-Joker line in the game!
There was a lost opportunity for comedy though. When Hatter is going "Kill the Rabbit" Joker should have been singing "Kill da wab~bit! Kill da wab~bid!" It would have been pure gold.
At first I thought they were gonna do another "WHERE ARE THEY!?" scene

They finally gave Mad Hatter a multistep mission unlike the other games where it was a quick bang. The steps in this I like so much more because they are makeshift yet play off to Jervis's gimmick. Wonderland isn't always flowers & tea parties that's for sure.
is it just me or are all these missions better than the arkham episodes
Obviously they are... They are longer with more varied gameplay and more of a story than those 'story episodes'.
And it's like Rocksteady put them together with ease.

That's not saying a lot though. With the exception of the "A Matter of Family" Batgirl DLC, every "expansion" has been bitterly underwhelming.

Now now. Officer, you mistake me for a snitch.

That certainly scratched my itch.

you know, when every single one of your enemies calls you crazy, you have to wonder if theyre seeing something you dont.
Imagine a mixtape from the Mad Hatter, Eminem, and Dr. Seuss... I would listen myself to sleep every night
Both men were all talk/no action, but Mad Hatter might have been more frightening in this DLC than Scarecrow in the game proper.
Especially seeing him in the background of the flashback book... fricking creepy.
I love Batman’s psychological enemies like Scarecrow, Mad Hatter & The Riddler. I was glad Arkham Knight explored them more. One day, I hope their explored PROPERLY on the big screen.
That conversation at the end between Cash and Hatter XD
Bats is pissed that Jervis wasting 🔥🔥🔥 in the precinct when he should be in the studio recording.
Jervis may be insane, but *damn* can he rhyme
The lines Mad Hatter said at the end were a little too disturbing...think he thinks Bats is his best "friend" or something,
After being just a crazy guy, he now rhymes, no longer shy
Now the game Arkham knight is the next game I shall buy
Next will be Mr Freeze's case.I can't wait for it.
Oh cool
SPOILER ALERT NORA TALKED
+SSGSS Goku fuck you
***** so
+MoonlightGamer I know
Never mind the bars, the level design for the hypnosis was insanely brilliant. Batman fighting thugs inside a Arkham wonderland book, amazing. Hats off Rocksteady!
He is saying "you're" instead of "your" on purpose, because like Alice in the book, Batman is the protagonist, and the Mad Hatter is only a character he meets on the way.
13:25
I love it! The story book ending is so spooky. It's made me feel melancholy for the days of Asylum and City
i don't understand how mad hatter got those cars to the first two locations.
He obviously has people working for him, anyone who thinks otherwise is retarded.
incognitoninja89 the first one is by boat but the second one doesn’t make sense
hypnotism
21:48 I loved this little part where the cop made it rhyme
With each Batman game made, Jarvis tetch looks more insane.
1:43 “Let’s, let’s see, oh, one, two, three! *extends middle finger* “
He not only breaks the fourth wall spit super bars for days but tells the whole batman story from arkham asylum arkham city and this game arkham knight all in one pretty amazing if you ask me
10:14 the riddler REALLY wants to fight batman instead of the mad hatter fighting
Mad Hatter: “Join me Batman. Be my Alice!”
Me: That’s just plain gross, man.
You have got to love the way Hatter was mocking Cash during the interrogation recording.
that whole last part was like he was trying to pick up batman.
I like how the enemies' visual fidelity matches which Arkham game they are from
Looks like the Mad Hatter discovered some new things about himself. Either he's switched teams or he's swinging both ways.
Que the BatHat Fanart!
Mad Hatter sequences like these remind me of Scarecrow challenge in Arkham Asylum, both are essentially battles that happen within Batman's psyche and mind in which he tries to resist the villains psychological torture and attempts of dominating him. This is what makes Batman villains so intimidating even if they don't pose a direct physical threat to Batman or even heroes, Joker actions to Superman is proof is this.
I absolutely love Jervis Tetch aka The Mad Hatter. He's really awesome along with Professor Pyg. They're both awesome, cool, very deranged, etc.
18:51 Loved when Mad Hatter said "Batman you're literally me fr fr!", Batman responded "You're a manlet Jervis." and brutally mogged him while dragging him at 19:05
That exchange between Cash and Mad Hatter is comedy gold 🤣😂
