It will be a big challenge for mazda to do a lightweight electric miata. What I enjoy the most with mine is the sound of the motor, and the chassis. I tried a ND 2 days ago and thought it was litterally the same car as my NA with some upgrades the no doubts on Mazda doing great things with the NE chassis. Reminds me of when the Ford Model T was new, many of the horse owners said it was terrible and would never sell more than horses. Of course, you can still buy a horse to ride, even though only a tiny percentage do. I am guessing we will still see some new gasoline cars in 50 years, but a lot less than now as the electric motors, batteries and public chargers get better and more mass produced. Rent a minivan, the extra weight and long wheelbase make it nice to drive in a way, even though it is the opposite of a light, short wheelbase MX-5 Miata. To really go light and short, a bicycle and motorcycle beat the Miata and with a more open interior. They are worse for cold, hot or rainy weather. Or for crash safety.
The NE concept and render looks like an FD RX7 to me. That floating faux popup headlight design cue is hot. Would be interested to see it in future cars, it reminds me of the tail light form the cyberpunk miata with the rear single glass beam
I like the look of the ND3, especially in yellow, with some updated tech. I would not be interested in an all electric MX-5 since half the fun is rolling through the gears. BTW my 2022 MX-5 has wireless carplay.
As a NA owner decades ago, my personal powertrain preference for the upcoming NE is a moderately updated 1.5 Skyactiv G with PHEV tech. Here's why: 1) Both are currently in production already so relatively low development $ and reliability risks....so NE price range won't hv to be Tesla roadster territory if it's going full BEV instead. 2) The 1.5 has been an option since the birth of ND(except for N.American mkt). I rented 1 in Okinawa 5yrs ago and it was such a sweet revving little engine that eventually formed the basis of the recently updated 2.0 on ND2 for sale in the U.S. Retaining this for NE will preserve the nearly lengendary manual shift experience which is the core reason most buyers would still buy a Miata/MX5 instead of another SUV/Crossover or BEV these days. 3) Mazda PHEV tech is indeed brand new but in production now for CX60/90 and imminently for CX80/70. With their combined production volume over the nex 3~4yrs, Mazda should be able to identify+fix any bugs on this new system by 2027~28 when NE debut. 4) Mazda's 2.5 PHEV in production today makes 323hp. I estimate a 1.5 PHEV version will make around 60% of that at about 193hp...not bad and still more than today's ND2. Plus of course reasonable pure EV range for the daily commute. 5) Personally, I still view PHEV tech as more realistic than BOTH pure BEV and pure ICE(Internal Combustion) for the medium term future(i.e. before 2040) given various unresolved ongoing issues re battery raw materials +charging infrastucture/power grid energy source on 1 hand and clear hostility against ICE by many regulators worldwide on the other hand. My only concern for a NE 1.5 PHEV is weight. The current ND 1.5 weights only around 1,000kg/2,200lbs while the CX90 2.5 PHEV weights a whopping 2,344kg/5,157lbs. I'm in the camp of - Mazda has no point to continue Miata/MX5 production if its weight ever exceeds 1,200kg regardless of whether it's BEV or PHEV or remains as ICE.
I have a 2016 ND and love it. I will likely buy a 2025 ND3 so that I can avoid the NE. Not sold on the new styling, but as long as they keep the same drive train I'm in. The fall release date makes sense as they're running .9% financing on the ND2.
I have a '16 ND GT and plan to hang onto it. I don't think it'll ever be seen as a classic, but if the NE goes EV, that will change the entire market for all old Miatas. I also won't be interested since that would be a completely different kind of car than what the "Miata" philosophy stands for.
A Battery Electric MX5 will fail miserably because ending the 6 speed gearbox and losing engagement on the road. The weight will be more drawbacks. Sad.😢
ND3 Miata bigger screen / more app integration / same 2.0L engine with the light weight - great. Why break from the formula that got you here Mazda ? As a 2016 ND Club soft top owner the increase in power wasn't enough to make me trade in for the ND2 because it was all top end basically. ND3 though has me thinking it might be worth the upgrade now before the NE version. I'm with you there Kirk.
Just happy knowing or being confident my super modified ND2 will be the last true miata. ND3 rework doesn't look too appealing and most likely will just be cosmetics and safety systems - which isn't ideal for the modding community long term. NE will just not be the same with battery and it'll probably be quicker but at the expense of everything the miata is. No thanks. Time will tell what we do though, maybe the NE concept can be so cool that it just begs a chance. Who knows.
@myownceo for darn sure. For me I've owned almost every generation but I'm keeping my ND2 forever. I'm sure there's tons of folks that will buy to sell later and that's not really my style. But it'll happen regardless and the ND2/3 will probably be the last true mazda roadster. Shame. If I want to blow money on an NE just to say I have one, that's one thing but I'd probably just pass.
I'm 100% against EV mainly because you can't get them in manual. Apparently Toyota is working on an EV manual but even that is only simulated....i.e. fake.

how about using toyota inline 3, maybe even de tune in exchange for a more echo-like exhuast sound if toyota asks for that so it doesnt eat gr corolla sales
No, they won't, as it would mesh up their whole parts nomenclatura. NF btw was the Abarth, and no japanese company would name a car NG for obvious reasons.
@@GRINHELL Well, if I remember correctly, Mazda wasn't consistent with chassis names in the past. Example - Mazda 323F BG was replaced with 323F BA just to be followed by a 323F BJ model. Mazda 6 GG was replaced by Mazda 6 GH and that was intuitive but wagon version of MK1 Mazda 6 was named GY.
I would actually consider a lightweight NE Miata with a tiny battery pack like 100-150mi of range just as a fun car around town to take to Starbucks or whatever. But at that point it's clearly just a toy so I'm not sure what the market size would be.
The added weight of even a small battery and electric motors would totally change the driving characteristics of the car, which is the main reason you're getting a miata anyway.
Will they actually paint their cars this go 'round, so they don't fade milky white in only 5 years. My 2017 copper red rf starting fading on top before year 5 started.
I paused the video to hit like when asked. Waiting for Miata news is worth subscribing by itself. All the other great information is icing on the cake.
I can't say that I like how the NE is supposedly going to look, nor do I like the new Vision Study Concept. I've really felt like Mazda's gorgeous design language has been going downhill. They should really look back to the Vision Coupe and RX Vision Concepts and go back to that design language.
Looking at the rear design its almost like a Ferrari 360 spider. I would definitely change the headlights since its a bit small and proportions aren’t looking so great or they keep the ND2 variant. The grill they can do how they would like it I would’ve made it slightly smaller.
My reading out of this is that we don't know anything til we will know. Seriously, this is true guessing by a Japanese mag as have done many others before. Yes, the ND FL is apparently coming along and while we have seen some changes on the exterior in camou, we still don't know the final look. Also, other Japanese mags are talking about a chat with senior developers from Mazda that already the ND FL will have some kind of mild-hybrid built in to be in line with the 2025 EU regulations. They are already using the technology in some other models on the market. In fact, the developer talked about getting this done in the smaller engine first and the 2l soon to follow. If this was the case, I doubt we will see an NF coming up before at least 2027 or 2028. Which would then be full BEV and in line with Mazdas overall strategy of electrification. Bottom line, to me, the above timeline would make absolute sense. But again, all guessing at the moment.
I think Mazda has a huge advantage in the PHEV game with that rotary range extender. Huge batteries are really dumb but so is hauling around a big, heavy piston engine when it isn't even being used. So if you can have a battery of adequate size for most drives for most people and have the smallest, lightest possible range extender for those odd longer hauls, that is a winning formula in my eyes. Range extender use for the rotary is perfect as it won't be used super often so the seals will likely last the life of the vehicle, rotaries are more efficient at a constant RPM, and of course that sweet power to weight ratio is hard to beat. I want to see Mazda take that powertrain and put it in more of their vehicles, even the NE. I think it has huge mass market potential.
yeah but for the miata, come on.. it's not like the miata owners like to just cruise and have constant RPM, we usually shift, rev match a lot and approach curbs at different speeds
@@elio8119you’re missing the point - the rotary engine has no connection to the driveline and purely acts as a generator for the battery, hence why it’s always running at a constant RPM. The electric motors drive the wheels
Great video thanks for the info! The current Miatas have wireless CarPlay/AA, I did a review on one a few weeks ago. I think the ND3 looks good, the NE not so much. While I like the side view of the NE, I saw some G4 Eclipse from one angle. And Sports Car/Roadster don't really work with EV.

@@RobinVerhulstZ i have had several NDs and several 124s. The factory tune of the 124s is horrendous. A tune makes a humongous improvement. I keep going back to 124s because of the sound of the exhaust and the better styling. While a turbo 1.5 miata wouldnt have the unique exhaust sound of the Fiat, I know Mazda would ensure it made better power and mpg than the Fiat.

Kirk, the current ND-2 MX-5 already has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. My 2023 GT has it, and I believe it became available with the 2022 model.
As an EV it would be weighing above 1300kg for certain. For that weight you should get 250hp at least. Could be fun. But we will miss changing gears. The car might stay nimble, let’s hope !
I'm also torn about the NE. I currently own an NA Miata and a Tesla Model 3 - the best of both worlds. I'll drive my Miata when I want to row through the gears, and I'll drive my Tesla when I want to be the quickest car on the road. If they could combine both, they'd hit a home run.
3:58 I equate my LC to a big boys Miata so its funny to hear the comparison flipped. And yea i see that in rear window upswing too. The minimal front lights... yea baby LC.
If this is actually to be believed, NC owners will be breathing a sigh of relief to learn they’re no longer going to be the black sheep of the Miata lineup when the NE takes its place as the new red headed stepchild. BEV + no manual + derivative styling direction = a product that MX5 enthusiasts won’t be buying.
I agree, except it's not true. Mazda does have a choice and I would not put it past them to keep it fully internal combustion without any electrification. If any company has the internal culture and will to do it, it's Mazda. The Miata accounts for such a tiny percentage of overall Mazda sales, that I think they can get away with no electrification, or a very mild hybrid system at the worst.
In Ecuador where I now live, most models from the best car manufacturers are not available here. However, there are many Chinese manufacturers, so many, most you've never heard of. Except Mazda. The best cars on the road here in Ecuador that are available and affordable are Mazda CX 3 & CX 5. Sadly the Miata isn't available, but that's actually a good thing because the roads suck, bad.
I can't see the NE Miata being fully battery electric. That would be way too soon. However, if it does become battery electric, it comes as an optional trim, not a standard choice. Remember, the Honda CRZ had a hybrid with a manual transmission, and the 7th gen 2005 Honda Civic had a hybrid with manual transmission. Hybrid technology is far more vastly improved. Even if the hybrid technology for an NE gen Miata had a 48V mild hybrid with a gas engine and paired to a manual transmission to keep it lightweight, it's not out of the question and definitely doable. Mazda needs to take a page out of Honda's playbook and figure out how Honda did it with the CRZ and 2005 Honda Civic Gas+Hybrid cars. As far as the ND3 goes, this would be known as a secondary refresh. If I'm being honest, Mazda should be able to squeeze out another 19-24hp to get 200-205hp out of that engine they're using. Some people want a turbocharged MX-5 Miata. Mazda hasn't done a turbo Miata since the NB gen. I'm not expecting that kind of radical change under the hood of the ND3. Just as an idea, what Mazda could do is make the NE gen Miata with 48V mild hybrid system with a turbocharger paired to a manual transmission. If you want to keep some sort of purity of an internal combustion engine in the Miata, you do the next gen NE MX-5 Miata like that.
Not really a fan of the bar on the nd3 render. Breaks up the flow in an awkward way and looks too much like the "chrome" strip on the back of the old mazda6 and cx-9: which seemed like a cheap faux garnish rather than a cohesive design element and didn't match the rest of those excellent designs. I'm ok with the front, but past designs have a body colored strip under the grille and it seems like an odd departure to have a "bottomless" grille like a Camaro ZL1 or Lexus maw. But a tech/interior update on the refresh would be welcome
Happy with my ND2 purchase having seen this ND3 & NE info. The best infotainment upgrade would be to get rid of that damn ugly LCD glued to the dash - spoiling the lines of the cockpit. Maybe make it popup for when nav is required. Otherwise a minimalist clean look would be better. The existing infotainment system is slow but basically works OK (yes it already has wireless carplay). The most common operation I do is settings/screen-off - which I can do with the rotary control without even looking at that damn ugly screen.

I think the ND3 Miata will be the last truly epic, truly great Miata. IMO all they need to do is fix the glitchy infotainment system (my 2016 randomly bricked itself for no apparent reason), offer two or three new exterior colors, and add an option for a beige or tan soft top and interior. That would be the Miata to end all Miatas for me personally.

Nice analysis. Full EV Miata is a hard pill to swallow. PHEV is more palatable, but it sounds like they're still figuring it out. Batteries are still too heavy to make it interesting.
@@leax_Flame 400 lbs is 17% of the current weight! "Only" 400lbs extra negates the essence of the light weight, low power formula the Miata has enjoyed for decades. 400lbs is a nice target, but possibly unrealistic. Unless we get solid state batteries, it's going to be pretty porky.
I'm glad I've got an ND2! Because MX5 futures look to be all downhill from here. The ND3 proposals are minimal over the ND2 but to me the front end doesn't look as good; there's something odd about the shape of that grill and the black grill with yellow bodywork emphasises that oddness. Maybe it'll look OK in darker body colour? I hope it doesn't have a turbo - that would spoil the purity of the car and turn it into a hot hatch drive-alike. As for the NE, it will almost certainly be electric, and that's no lightweight sports car in the spirit of MX5s to date. Perhaps it's time to call it by another name as it will not be a spiritual successor to the ND.
Hopefully the NE has port injection with direct injection now....the ND being direct injection only will keep me away for sure, and having EPS on top of that does not make it more appetizing. Many cars that have EPS can easily be converted to a manual steering rack, but they purposefully designed the ND Miata in a way where it could not be without a ton of work.
NE Miata will have an axial flux motor that is 220hp and 250tq that is 30% lighter than a Tesla Model 3 radial flux motor, and it will have CATL's new LFP battery that can charge by 250 miles in 10 minutes and get 435 miles of range, but it will be a scaled down version of this battery with less range in order to be lighter. They are targeting a 40-45kWh pack with 250 miles of range at a weight of 2600lbs. Based on the axial flux motor having a 8k rpm redline versus the Tesla having a 18k-22k redline , the NE will have a three speed manual gearbox.
This. I had the Fiat version of the Nd (same interior). Had to give it up. Is just too small in the cabin to fit. Loved everything else about the car. Have been forced to pay more to.get into a Boxster. Which is a fabulous car, but the MX5/124 spider wasn't any less fun, and at a much easier price point.
As far as "all electric".... for the MX5 racing crowd... perhaps look at battery trays that can be changed as easily as a tire. And keep the price of the trays reasonable. So, with 3 or 3 trays you can race all day, have fun, and be in a damn quick and light car. An MX5 can go full-on for 25 minutes (typical SCCA race time) before the battery pack is "done". That would work. Then change packs for the next race session. The question becomes-- how heavy is a 25 minutes battery pack ?? See where I'm going with this ??
At some point it will have to be EV only and there won't be any new ICE roadsters from other manufacturers either. So sales may not necessarily take a hit. Also by the time they go EV on this car, the tech will be better than today.
Depends if every other vehicle on the market is ev then it will be your only choice. I have yet to drive an ev that had any feeling or any soul. There is no fun no point it’s just an appliance. We shall see if Mazda can change that for ev implementation

If they bumped up the power to an even 200 for the nd3, I’d be impressed.
Might need more than that if it's BEV though.
I agree with the guy above. Battery weight = more power needed
@bearclaw5115 & @KidKingdomHearts except @blaqueknite22 specifically called out the nd3 (gasoline) and not the ne. I have a 2021 ND2 RF GT and I'd love an extra 20'ish HP in it.
Only had my 2023 for 2000 miles but haven't ever wanted more horsepower, unlike my 2011 cyclone mustang
Also the fact that these cars are slow af, idk why but I really like it. Electric motors with a lot of torque may be really weird in a miata.
Is the steering good on the ND? how is it compared to the NA ?
I'm excited for the ND3. I really hate the current info-tainment.
My 2016 bricked for no apparent reason. Love the car to death but super disappointed to lose the BT ability.
@@TomahawkAssault major reason I just sold my 2016 for $20k to Carvana. It was a crap shoot whether or not the infotainment would even start up. Loved the car immensely (more than my 21 BMW 330e) for the 6 1/2 years I owned it and most likely will get the ND3 when that blesses us with its presence.
Don’t set expectations too high. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mazda still won’t allow you to use the touch screen while driving.
If you can do without a glove-box you can most certainly do without an big ugly LCD glued to the dash spoiling the look of the cockpit. I wish they just had an optional mount for your mobile phone - and ditch all the ‘infotainment’ crap.
@@cougarcon2172trying to precisely touch a touch-screen while driving is annoying and a distracting.
Love the rotary dial control that my Mazda3 has, does the MX-5 have that?
They should offer British Racing Green in all models
Can we FINALLY get a GREEN ND?? How about a light blue? Something in the purple range? Hello, Mazda, are you there?
I agree, we need British Racing Green, Miami Blue and Midnight Purple.
Vinyl wraps can give you any color Miata you want. I used to care about the color release but the wraps are so good now it doesn’t matter
The NE concept and render looks like an FD RX7 to me. That floating faux popup headlight design cue is hot. Would be interested to see it in future cars, it reminds me of the tail light form the cyberpunk miata with the rear single glass beam
looks more like a mixture of both, tail lights were obviously inspired by nb mx5
The white color render made me think lotus a lil more sprinkles of nb
I like the look of the ND3, especially in yellow, with some updated tech. I would not be interested in an all electric MX-5 since half the fun is rolling through the gears. BTW my 2022 MX-5 has wireless carplay.
Can confirm, 2021 MX-5 has wireless CarPlay, too. It's a little buggy but has gotten better with Apple updates.
@@gregalee Apple wireless CarPlay has been available for awhile, it’s android CarPlay, that’s not been available wirelessly
@@experiment54 Well, sure but there is no such thing as Android CarPlay.
@@gregalee android auto
@@experiment54 Yep! Exactly. It's not Coke if it's Pepsi, it's not Sprite if it's 7-up. Same... but different.
As a NA owner decades ago, my personal powertrain preference for the upcoming NE is a moderately updated 1.5 Skyactiv G with PHEV tech.
Here's why:
1) Both are currently in production already so relatively low development $ and reliability risks....so NE price range won't hv to be Tesla roadster territory if it's going full BEV instead.
@Felixli5279, sir, you were right on my lane of thoughts. I fully agree with you and do believe things will turn out in that direction.
Sad.😢
I have a 2021 Miata RF GT and everything is wireless… only thing is that the infotainment is VERY glitchy - but easy to reset if you’re having issues.
I'de rather the Miata be a hybrid with manual transmission than EV only...I am not 100% against hybrids, but I am 100% against owning a EV
I'm 100% against EV mainly because you can't get them in manual. Apparently Toyota is working on an EV manual but even that is only simulated....i.e. fake.
I'm all for a yellow option - the banana yellow Mk2 always brings a smile to my face when I see one. Let's have a nice yellow option on the next model!
I literally followed and subscribed to you Kirk 4 years ago for your review of MX-5’s. Can’t wait to see you test drive the new NE Miata! 🎉
Thanks for the sub!
I just hope that it has a little more room in the driver's cockpit! I can't quite fit into the existing model...
When's the last time they had a green MX5?
Quick note - next Miata chassis code (propably) won't be NE. This is a chassis code for the 124 Spider, believe it or not ;)
Yea i know mate. Mazda still could call it NE if they want.
how about using toyota inline 3, maybe even de tune in exchange for a more echo-like exhuast sound if toyota asks for that so it doesnt eat gr corolla sales
@@KirkKreifels you mean sunburst yellow on mx5
But at that point it's clearly just a toy so I'm not sure what the market size would be.
yeah sure. Starbucks
I'd love to see a hybrid manual Miata. The low end torque boost would be very welcome.
Why? They already get good MPG.
@@donjohnson2428 he exactly said for low-end torque boost.
The added weight of even a small battery and electric motors would totally change the driving characteristics of the car, which is the main reason you're getting a miata anyway.

That front grill on the ND3 though is a little meh. I prefer my ND1. Now the rear on the ND3 looks a bit better.
Loving my ND1 as well
Was kind of hoping for some pop-up headlights on the ND3 after seeing that picture in the video lol.
The current ND2 does have wireless Apple CarPlay and AA available in GT versions, the other versions have it wired.
Can’t wait to see what the RF version looks like & the new interior
Isn’t the Fiat 124 the “NE” chassis?
MAZDA, JUST MAKE A MIATA THAT LOOKS LIKE A CLASSIC CAR
Hi Kirk,
I truly hope Mazda will get rid of the wonky and flimsy antenna for the new 2024 ND3. Fantastic content
Looks like a Mazda. I mean, they improved what was already good looking. I love it! Especially in yellow.😍
Let’s hope the NE will have an inline 6 with a little more room.
Do we really have to go BEV? If you have a choice, would you go ICE or BEV?
ice all day, even hybrid over bev for miata
@@KirkKreifels ice for me, bev is pointless where i live
ICE all the way for me.
E-fuel or hydrogen will be the solution for keeping weight down, so why BEV?
For me, battery means no manual gearbox, so the driving fun has gone. So no interest in buying one.
The only thing I dislike is the Mazda emblem on the front grill. I think it would look great between the grill and the hood.
A turbo version of their 1.5 Skyactiv engine would be awesome. I currently drive a 124 with a 1.4 turbo and it is fantastic.
Objectively that's cool, but I think miata is already correlated together with N/A engine.
having just testdriven the 124 and ND1.5 earlier this week i'm not sure if i agree, the 124 turbo is nice at lower RPM's but it's like it's struggling to breath at high rpm's while the 1.5l naturally aspirated mazda engine hapily revs all the way to 7500 with gusto
now a supercharger of some kind? that'd be nice (expect for fuel economy and the following tax increase)
i ended up deciding to buy the ND, i do like the 124's looks more though, i don't think the ND's rear will ever look good to me
@@neroxyn7625 Mazda made a turbo miata before. I owned one. It was done terribly. I know a turbo 1.5 would be done right this time.
@@RobinVerhulstZ i have had several NDs and several 124s. The factory tune of the 124s is horrendous. A tune makes a humongous improvement. Since they are all out of warranty now, you can buy one and not worry about that. The mpg difference is about 4-5 mpg. I averaged 32-34 mpg with all the NDs and 28-29 mpg with the 124s. I keep going back to 124s because of the sound of the exhaust and the better styling. While a turbo 1.5 miata wouldnt have the unique exhaust sound of the Fiat, I know Mazda would ensure it made better power and mpg than the Fiat.

i may end up looking at the 124 abarth and ND 2.0v2 in a couple years but part of me feels like the 1.5 is great as is because i do like flooring it and moving the needle to the redline without too much risk of breaking any speed limit (which isn't advisable in a country with this much speed cams looking to make a quick buck off of anyone with a heavy foot and suboptimal awareness), the abarth is about 200 euro cheaper in annual road tax though
I think the new design for the NE Miata looks like 🔥! But I hope they don’t go full BEV. Hybrid would be okay, but not full EV.

Mazda CX-90 PHEV already has an electric motor sandwiched between transmission and ICE. The EV mode rows through the gears the same way that a conventional automatic would.
So I disagree about negative sentiment on an electrified NE. They *already* have the chops for it in house.
Look, if we have to go battery, i trust Mazda of all manufacturers to keep it 💯 for the driver.
Just put a deposit on a soft top. Should I wait for the ND3 you think? I'm gonna be hella mad if they improve the horsepower for 2024. I want to buy one before they go hybrid or electric.
All I can say is I absolutely love my ND1. You'd think that it would be slow but it is surprisingly fast, it pulls and puts a smile on your face. The ND2 with the extra power is even better. I'd say don't wait and just get the ND2. Also, the front grill on the ND3 looks worse to me than my ND1 because it's missing that signature happy Miata mouth by not having the body color run across the bottom.
Mazda is always delayed in their product launches.. hell the cx90 and cx70 are both delayed and those are in segments that sell like hotcakes.
Any chance at an MX-7 with the I6? Probably not, but it'd be awesome.
If Mazda was still in their Zoom Zoom era, sure. But they're all about going up market now, so it's unlikely.
So the current MX5 RF. They won't have the same ones coming out next year?
Kirk, the current ND-2 MX-5 already has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. My 2023 GT has it, and I believe it became available with the 2022 model.
Just apple for 2022. I have to plug in my android phone in my 2022 ND2
I hope we get a Mazda spirit racing edition (as successor to the mazdaspeed Miata) for the ND’s final hoorah.
As an EV it would be weighing above 1300kg for certain. For that weight you should get 250hp at least. Could be fun. But we will miss changing gears. The car might stay nimble, let’s hope !
The shark fin antenna is gone! Wish they kept that instead of the other.
"Monitor has been changed to an 88 inch frameless type." Damn, that's gonna be huge! 🤣
The NE and NF chassis were already used for the Fiat 124 / Abarth.
Will Mazda still use NE for the next generation Miata or will they use NG?
3:58 I equate my LC to a big boys Miata so its funny to hear the comparison flipped. And yea i see that in rear window upswing too. The minimal front lights... yea baby LC.
Basic design reminds me of the Honda S2K. The EV sounds interesting, keep us posted Kirk.
Touche. Even with the lightest battery as feather, no sound no fun, especially without going through the gears = ruined Miata.
A soft-top NC weights about the same as the RF, so don't believe NC "boat" comments by the haters.
“There is no choice but to go BEV” was devastating to hear
I agree, except it's not true. Mazda does have a choice and I would not put it past them to keep it fully internal combustion without any electrification. If any company has the internal culture and will to do it, it's Mazda. The Miata accounts for such a tiny percentage of overall Mazda sales, that I think they can get away with no electrification, or a very mild hybrid system at the worst.
it's woke propaganda BS from a "journalist", not from Mazda
I “WILL NOT “ BUY A AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC. “MX5” the thrill and spirit is gone !
As of today, When will Dealers have in their Possesion?
In Ecuador where I now live, most models from the best car manufacturers are not available here. However, there are many Chinese manufacturers, so many, most you've never heard of. Except Mazda. The best cars on the road here in Ecuador that are available and affordable are Mazda CX 3 & CX 5. Sadly the Miata isn't available, but that's actually a good thing because the roads suck, bad.
The current one is just fine by me.

You're fine. Miatas hold their value very well

Your nd2 is more beautiful than this squished bro looking generic nd3
You feel stupid for buying a 2019 used model knowing there might be a refresh in the 2024 or 2025 model year ? 🥸
It would be nice to see an interior rework, especially following the objective Mazda has to direct compete with Lexus.
EV? No way.
I have to buy the ND asap.
If there is a body style change, would that not be the NE instead of an ND3?
Same! I LOVE Polymetal Grey, and bought likely the last new one for sale in BC, Canada on Dec 17, 2022.
My screen off happens automatically when I start it. It's been that way since I first set it, after delivery. Doesn't yours?

I think the ND3 Miata will be the last truly epic, truly great Miata. IMO all they need to do is fix the glitchy infotainment system (my 2016 randomly bricked itself for no apparent reason), offer two or three new exterior colors, and add an option for a beige or tan soft top and interior. That would be the Miata to end all Miatas for me personally.

I would feel the same seeing one as when see the electric "Mustangs"... i agree, just call it something else!
I thought Sky active technology was going to eliminate the need to go EV.
The only update Mazda Miata team ever had to make was to galvanize those rust buckets, and they still haven't in several decades
The Miata already has wireless phone projection. It was added for 2021.
I'm crying. Looks like I'll be driving my 2020 for a long, long time.
Mazda colors in America are too mature. They need sports car colors. 1:40
They need electric colors not cars
ND3 looks to bring a nice update. Fingers crossed they find a good recipe for the NE!
Have you heard anything about the R EV that got leaked the other day?
current mx 5 does have wireless carplay, but no wireless android auto
I don’t like the updated looks. The current styling is amazing and doesn’t need any revisions.
All I hope is simply make it just bigger enough for us bigger dudes. Cheers.
Agree with Kirk. Yes ND3🎉🎉. NE electric 😢😢
MX-7 with 250-300hp and a little more interior space would be a perfect car. Even an every day car if it had dual clutch transmission.
If they make the Miata EV only sales will take a huge loss.
At some point it will have to be EV only and there won't be any new ICE roadsters from other manufacturers either. So sales may not necessarily take a hit. Also by the time they go EV on this car, the tech will be better than today.
Not true, MX5 is not a volume seller so doesn't affect Mazda at all. And I would buy one.
Depends if every other vehicle on the market is ev then it will be your only choice. I have yet to drive an ev that had any feeling or any soul. There is no fun no point it’s just an appliance. We shall see if Mazda can change that for ev implementation
taillight circles too close together. An improvement though.
I like the current styling. Improvement could be sportier/larger wheel flares to accommodate 225/245 spec tires.
Maybe a electric hybrid drive with an extended wheel base?
