  • Since the first Haitian immigrants arrived in 1963, a thriving Haitian community has grown in Miami. From the vibrant murals of Little Haiti to the business districts of North Miami, the story of that community is one of extraordinary resilience and ingenuity - overcoming political strife, natural disasters, racial discrimination and negative stereotyping to build a home in south Florida. As the community has grown, Haitian entrepreneurs have opened a broad array of restaurants and shops that reflect the customs and cuisine of their home island. Watch the video above to learn more.

    I miss griot! Haitian food is so good yet underrated in so many parts of Miami. I grew up in North Miami and went to school with Haitians, that's the only reason why I got to try Haitian food. Sadly too many non-Haitian folks overlook these tasty dishes. I just hope gentrification isn't too hard on Little Haiti.

    When I was growing up in Lake Worth, FL (a couple of hours north of Miami), my upstairs neighbor, Chantal, was from Haiti. She was always so surprised when I told her how good her cooking smelled! She made me some kind of fried root veg that was spicy and delicious!
    This was 30 years ago and I still remember it and wish I knew what it was.

    Agree with everything you said except the voodoo part. They have a lot of Haitian practicing that crap even here in America. A lot of people are trying to escape that mess from back home so if you cannot leave that trashy voodoo stuff back home where you came from then stay home because there is nothing unique or fun about voodoo. Only if Haitian could forsake their black magic, witchcraft, spirit of darkness their lives would change back home. If the devil could help them, by now their lives would completely transform, and become a new country, but they are the one who have to wakeup to realize that for themselves, no one else can do that for them.

      But who makes up America? How ignorant are you? You took your time to come all the way to this video just to hate. Immigrants such as Haitians and elsewhere make America AMERICA!! And by looking at your name it doesn’t seem so “American” ether.

    • @tikozelakay9200
      @tikozelakay9200 6 лет назад +5

      For your knowledge AMERICA is the continent name all the Caribbean islands are in America the name was given by Christopher Columbus. At this time it's was unknown that's why it's use to be known as the new world Amerigo was the name of one of his crew members tha's where the name from

    • @Zaafirah013
      @Zaafirah013 5 лет назад +2

      Go pick up a book. When Christopher Columbus so called discovered America, he landed on the Island of Ayiti (Haiti/Hisoaniola) today, Haiti/Dominican Republic. He never set foot in what you know today as the U.S.A. America is comprised of North America, Central America, South America, and adjoining islands.

      Thats like telling a mexican to go back to mexico for being mexican and you just said that they are not american and that if you want to be haitian then go back to haiti but obviously if they came from haiti in the first place then they are haitian so your comment just shows your ignorance
