I saw someone make a super silly comment on here about your take on being recognized for your work. I just wanted to say that your work is awesome and moving, but I respect your love for the art, and I wanna say thank you for always coming back here to youtube to share your experience and inspiration. It’s all love over here
I can only agree. 🙏🏼
Yes 🙌🏻
This is the kind of inspirational videos I love. Motivating people to get out shooting is way more important than motivating them to buy gear. It’s the craft that matters. Thanks for the great work :)
I love the idea of more assignment videos as well as hearing your thoughts on sequencing. Reflecting on and sequencing photos is undervalued and something you don't see enough of!
I love that you find street photography relaxing. I too, am trying to be like that. I get stage fright even just on the street. The hyper anxious/paranoid type would understand me
I understand you completely. Even the slightest idea of rising my camera in streets frightens me. even if I am capturing a brick wall I get afraid of what if anyone comes and hit me (sounds silly but not in my mind). I used to love Street photography like an obsessive person but for some unknown reason for past 1 year I am super paranoid about streets. So nowadays I try to go to parks with dense trees and birds and just be in nature. I love photography but my mind restricts me totally
You’re an inspiration for someone who recently just decided to go back to photography. Been learning tons from you, sir! Hope you know how many creatives you help all around the world.
Love the idea. I too have a collection of photos of People At Work. Some other collections I have been accumulating included Holding Hands, Street Signs, Laughing, Smoking and From My Car.
Keep up the awesome videos.
Today I was in Berlin for a short visit
I did create an assignment before start shooting on the streets
So I took my Nikon D70S with my zoom Tamron lens
The assignment was about capturing the light and the contrast in an Abstract way
I did capture some good shots
Well creating assignments is very helpful and challenging for us the street photographers
Thank you for this amazing video…
Wonderful captures of the day in day outs of the construction workers, especially the still ones are truly powerful! Thanks for sharing, and inspiring. Cheers.
Love your measured, reflective style. It adds a level of content richness independent of the photos.
I can't wait to tell my kids one day I grew up in my 20's watching the infamous Faizal Westscott....
Love your stuff man. Every videos inspiries me to go out and shoot.
I think the self assignment is a great idea. It's inspiring and I would love to see more. There's a local photographer where I live who is embedded with a construction crew on a large residential/mixed use development here. He's right there with them on their level and posts the most wonderful and interesting photos daily. Giving faces to those we usually only see from a distance.
Thank you for raising the subject of ‘work’ in the street as a valid focus for street photography. I’ve been doing this as part of my street photography for a little while now. Using black and white seems very apt and is something I will try and maybe even convert my existing workers photos to. The muddle of colours on a construction site feels like an asset and a challenge at the same time.
Thank you again for an excellent ‘reference’ video.
My self assignment right now is photographing tourists, its so much fun and motivating
I love photographing the construction workers!
Another aspect of self assignment is camera specific--assign yourself to use one lens, specific aperture, shutter speed, etc. I made myself use only the x100v and do black and white for the last 6 months and feel like I've learned a ton from it. Love that you did it for this video, very cool look and enhances the photos imo.
What I like about your content is that they are really informative, idea provoking and honest. More than this however is the cinematic nature of your video. I just like watching, the fact that it’s about street photography is almost a bonus, you could be talking about NYC ice cream! Keep posting please 🙏🏻
Man, you really got my creative juices flowing. I love your assignment idea and I'd love to see a series on this from you.
yours is one of the most creative channels I subscribe to. just wanted to let you know you're appreciated.
Agreed. Love this channel!
100% would love to see more of this on the channel
I try to work on projects on a regular basis but I have to admit I often find myself distracted. Like a dog when someone yells “SQUIRREL !” I like the word “assignment” rather than project. Has the feel of more personal involvement. I appreciate the video. Thank you.
Great concept to challenge yourself particularly when your creative thinking has dried up. I have an ongoing project named Discarded where I go out on the street and purposely look for things that have been left behind or lost for example gloves, children's toys/shoes, hats etc. Two of the most interesting things I came across were a ladies bra hanging over a bench and a carpet folded up on the beach. It's amazing what you can find when you focus on just one subject and I agree with you that you end up ignoring everything else to find your subject. Looking forward to your future assignments and maybe you too could go out looking for the lost and left behind. 😀
Oh snap! That’s my actual project! Bro I just started and I know this will work wonders for you! It did for me…. Or should I say it is still inspiring me. I’m still working on it. ❤❤❤❤
What bag are you carrying in the video. I can't find it in your bio. Love the videos so much! Keep up the great work!
Love the idea and the subject you chose for the assignment, very important and very well done! 🙏🏻 Always an inspiration
Black and white is making My mind imagine the colours, which makes the photos feel lively; ironically…
By far my favourite modern photographer and to be able to see your creative process is a privilege.
I stumble upon your channel last week, and I was hooked up to all the insights of street photography and I have to say a very big thank you for sharing with us your ideas, your thoughts and photos, you definitely succeeded to inspire us all. Like any other beginner photographer who seeks out the internet for knowledge and inspiration, among other channels who are more concentrated on the gear and such, I found yours very insightful. Thank you.
You have a real talent at storytelling through images, may it be the video itself or the diptych sequence, love it!
Love this idea. And how great to show people who can overlooked yet are so important. Made me want to get on a plane and come to NYC!
Appreciate how you approach all this. You seem to be insightful, creative, respectful, and humble to mention a few characteristics. Thank you for your work and influence.
Love to see more Assignments!!
Cool stuff! Going out with a purpose can help so much. I'm absolutely drawn to workers on the street!
Having just bought a pixel 6 Pro, I'm looking forward to doing a little bit of abstract photography with it. This video has given me a little bit of inspiration.
I’ve been trying to do this as well to some degree. Definitely gives street videos more clarity in their reason for existing.
Love that image at 12:00 too!
I always love photographing construction workers/sites I assumed it was common as opposed to over looked. Maybe I was wrong.
Thank you for what you do. I’ve just started getting into photography and making videos and I find what you are doing very inspiring. So just wanted to say thank you and look forward to following your future work. Ben
I am been thinking of trying this idea of photo assignments. I have seen books that give you a simple weekly assignment to do each week. For this reason I found your video. Thanks for that. Since you live close to a big city maybe interesting to do a video on first responders or public service (police, fire, EMS, bus drives, taxi drives, Ect).
Looking forward to the series! Might do this kind of project also :)
That was awesome
The shots are beautiful!!
Well done
Love your work! A street vendor series would be awesome. Need to do some of this myself!
Thank you for that! Your photos and this assignment are inspirations for me. I was hoping to see more of the workers faces as well, do you think that taking more of theirs faces wouldn't be good too? I would love to see more assignments! ❤
Hope you continue with this series.
I’ve been thinking on an off about doing this as well. It’s incredible how constraints are so inspiring. I think I’m going to do a series on my channel where I assign myself all of the primary colors and each video shows the photos from one of those colors.
Love this!!! I say this all the time, your work is just awesome! AND your channel as well!. THANK YOU for giving us things to think about and challenge ourselves.
Funny how you picked b&w for this assignment. Feels timeless.
The first sentence: summarised exactly what I was thinking as I opened this video
These images look great! I like how you tied the city into it to make it a story.
I love your videos and your photography. It's made me want to continue my photography journey. I really really love your channel. Great work you're doing!👏🏼🎊❤️
I checked your link and I was like "AW C'MON you only did one assignment?". But I noticed you just posted this video! Great stuff man :)
The whole self-assignment-idea is absolutely great and you did an awesome job with your city workers series! I agree with you on your take of still life pictures; I think they were the most powerful and visual appealing pieces in the set and I genuinely think you should do more still life pictures because I feel you have a great talent for it. But the sequencing worked nicely too, so I was really into your whole process here - just wish you had used colour photography because you're really great in creating colour contrasts.
Glad i found your channel Faizal. Really enjoy your content. 📷😎
Great work as always !!, i loved the photos and how you organized them in diptychs, they turned out great!, It's always a pleasure to follow your inspiring work!
Would love a return of this concept on your channel :) really enjoyed it and gave me some inspiration
Great video. I think your self assignment approach is a wonderful way of getting out of the creative rut we all fall into from time to time. I really like your relaxed and measured way of talking about your work and a good choice of music. Loved this - thanks!
can you make a vid on videography?
love ur work btw, it inspires me.
Very inspiring video. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and your awesome photos. Great idea to make more assignments. Can't wait.
assignments are so helpful!!! magazine assignments used to be a great source of work for freelance photographers in the 50's, 60's. One of my favorite photographers Diane Arbus went on so many different kinds of assignments. that photograph of the coffee cup is a great doorway to boost ones interest! thank you for making this. When are you moving to NYC?
I really enjoyed the video and think the putting them in B&W worked really well.
A series about various assignments would be cool
Wonderful … I am working on a similar concept. Wonderful work as always, Faizal.
Great video heading into the weekend.
Your are an excellent Presenter👍👍!
Hey bro awesome video i will have do one of these.i like the still life images its adds to context and the human presence
.Awesome work...i like to take ppl with umbrellas especially with this heat on the streets...
Great video, as always, and very inspirational.
I have one technical question: did you use a zoom lens to take some of these photos or were you shooting with a Ricoh Gr III (as shown on the video) and cropped some photos in the post?
Like those little birds that clean the teeth of the big alligators. Quiet purpose. And important.
i love this video
the shot at 05:21 is sickkk
8:03 “you find what you’re looking for”
your video is my love
Interesting assignment
Great video! What camera did you use for photos? Looked like a point and shoot but I'm not sure
The one that looks like a point and shoot is most probably a Ricoh GRIIIx (unless he’s bought a Ricoh GRIII)
I’d love to explore more street photography myself, but how do you get over photographing strangers on the street? Is it awkward? Are there uncomfortable moments? Are there subjects or situations you won’t photograph?
Amazing video
Were these taken with GRiii or GRiiix?
both GR IIIx and XT5
I can not view the assignment photos on website.there s just only one photo...
Fantastic video as always dude!
I giggled at dip-tych and realized how spoiled I am.
for someone as young as you, you investigate all areas of street, my complaints 👍
ANOTHER UPLOAD ANOTHER GOOD DAY
Great video!
Using Chicago for your titles while shooting in Manhattan...outrageous!
Taxi drivers
Please go back to colour.
"rarely do I go out .... to become recongised for my work"... yet you have a youtube channel, twitter and instagram lmao
Excellent. Thank you.
I think your videos are great but you are a sorry photographer!
thank you so much to finally show up in my followers timeline so i can watch this kind a soul warming video that you made. i like how you take and the feeling in it. like i found something alive ⭐✨🥰🩷
