I would say I have listened to 80% of your episodes over the past few years. This was by far my favorite podcast that you guys have done! Eric, I love your honesty and vulnerability and at the same time standing strong on what you believe! Thank you for such an amazing look behind the curtain of everything that occurred during this time. Thank you both for your continued stories and details from my favorite time in wrestling.
Thanks!!! Yeah the AEW talk is hard to sit through. Same shit every week. Boy gets girl, boy looses girl, boy gets girl back again! Can't we just stick to nostalgia. I'd rather listen to an AWA watch along. Same with JR. I'd rather hear some mid south episodes. I love Eric and Conrad BTW, but man I'm sick of the aew podcasts.
I think Eric absolutely nailed it by saying he hopes the trial is able to play out in court instead of in the media. I was cleaning a pool for a customer of mine who was a Stanford educated lawyer and it was the day the George Zimmerman trial started. I really respected this guys opinion so I asked him "Well what do you think?" and his answer was such a lawyer answer, but so true. "I don't know, I wasn't there. I have to see the evidence presented and the entire case laid out before I can form an opinion." Totally changed the way I thought about situations I wasn't a part of. My opinion doesn't effect the situation, why feel the need to jump to conclusions? To be clueless AND outraged? Pass.
As someone who's watched wrestling from late 1998 to about 2003, Eric Bischoff's story regarding WCW's decline and fall stands the test of time. TBS simply did not want wrestling on their networks. With Ted Turner losing control and the AOL-Time Warner merger, WCW's death was all but certain. No expert level of booking can save it. That same merger that stood out as the worst merger in the history of media and business! Not only that, but also approved by the FCC! 🙃(wikipedia) But more than anything else, Eric Bischoff managed to produce a live television wrestling show and pioneer professional wrestling's _2nd golden age_ in the 'Monday Night Wars'. That is nothing short of remarkable, dare I say, a miracle. And look what happened after only WWE remained, wrestling declined. And as with any corporate monopoly in capitalism, quality goes down!
The 90s was the best decade in pro wrestling at that time. They were bigger than the NFL, the NBA and every other sport but by 1999 WCW was starting to fall apart. The WWF was getting better and better but WCW was going to shit…. I honestly cannot watch anything from the WCW in 1999 and 2000 it was horrendous. I really think 1999 was the cooling off point of the Monday night war the WWF was the clear winner around this time… it was so tragic what happened to WCW during its final years it still hits me hard as a wrestling fan nearly 24 years later… I hated when we had only the WWF left as the only major wrestling promotion at the time because it wasn’t exciting anymore and it was getting more and more mundane…
@@erior9662 Steve Austin was overrated. He was only good in the attitude era after WCW went out of business. They didn’t really know what to do with him after that.
Eb was wrong about the aew deal and I listen to every show and love it. He implied they wouldent get a deal several times and then he finally came around a d said they will but he didn't see them getting a big increase. Couldent of been more wrong. Reports are 170 mill a year not counting ppv and not counting Shockwave which they are currently shopping around. Overall deal if Shockwave get picked up would be over 200million a year
I don't have as much disdain for Vince in this Janel Grant case as others do because she took the money the first time.. if it was about the law, or justice or putting somebody in Janel you truly felt violated you, then i would think differently.. it truly seems to just be a money case.. had Vince just kept paying her the 3 million, she would've never brought this issue to a again.. a BILLIONAIRE turned his whole life upside down over 3 million dollars.. that's crazy... I'm only referring to the grant case... now all that other stuff the fbi looking into is different.. I'm waiting to see what they find.. tnt government had been trying to put Vince away for about 30 or 40 years.. lol
Calling the CW Network obscure was pretty far off base. Especially it has a streaming channel as well as FREE air with antenna or any of the pay tv cable services and alike.
I love this podcast and watch every single one. Both of these guys are great on here, but I’m wondering if Conrad thinks WWE is hurting in some way because they are cutting a few house shows. The WWE is not losing money like AEW, they are making more by raising prices and cutting small house shows all while constantly setting records.
AEW is not going to be profitable with this deal. Production cost and talent salaries are high. 170 for two or three shows is not as great as people think.
David Arquette to play eZe on nWo/WCW movie. Thank you Mr. Bischoff for your contribution in shaping sports entertainment and pro wrestling what it is today.👏🏽👍🏽😊
I watched rampage. It was terrible bad wrestling no top stars or story's and just horrific in ring work and goofy spots. I deleted all of the rampages off my sky box. Dynamite too bad wrestling same goofy spots in every match. AEW turned me off and i may never watch it again. I want them to survive. I turned it off then i watched Harley Race VS Terry Funk and other Harley's matches for the NWA Belt.
1:14:47 Do we really need to listen to an hour and 15 minutes of crap? I haven’t listened to any of Conrad’s podcasts for a couple months because I’m so sick of the extra crap. We listen to these for nostalgia, not for anyone’s opinion on the modern product or today’s happenings. It’s supposed to be an escape, not a reminder of everything that sucks today.
Don't listen to JR pod, it's become an advertisement of how great AEW is. Only Bruce is decent to listen, they don't talk about modern stuff and no AEW talk at all!
The whole build up makes no sense so instead of Darby vs Danielson, Mox is gonna wrestle Darby for #1 contender while Danielson still has a match it's ridiculous
AEW lost audience to WWE getting better. I think it’s mostly the same audience. 5 years ago WWE was stale. Now it’s reversed. Vince McMahon is gone from creative. Now it’s Tony Khan holding his show back instead. It’s like Tony is a nicer good guy version of Vince
I am not someone who thinks people should apologize for stupid comments they made in the past (Hulk Hogan). However, to think that there were no racial issues in wrestling up until and all through the 90’s is a very Trumpamaniac version of the facts. I know Eric is a Republican and that’s his choice, but at the very least admit what was wrong in wrestling back then…much better black athletes in sports during the 80’s and early/mid 90’s that could have been seeked and welcomed into WCW during Eric’s time and before…I loved Hogan as a kid, but Eric defends Hogan as much as someone who follows Trump defends a felon. Please just tell the truth. Wrestling wasn’t political when I was growing up…Kevin Nash has a much more realistic version of Detroit than Eric portrays, however Eric may be able to represent his actual feelings on race relations in 1960’s Detroit better than my Grandfather and Kevin Nash.
2:08:56 Conrad, Conrad, Conrad. There's no doubting you're one helluva salesman. However, I had to stop with my chores as I was listening to this podcast so I could pause the video and make this comment. Your attempt to pair the concept of the Manscaping line of grooming products like the bushwhacker, ball wax and taint cologne ALONG WITH the fact that it's fantasy football time is probably the most AMBITIOUS thing I've ever heard attempted in the world of marketing and advertising. I commend you for not having to pause recording about 20 times in three minutes to due to you or Eric bursting out into uncontrollable fits of maniacal laughter. I can't bust on you, really, because you're so good but the idea of grooming up your nether region for the big fantasy football party is just patently hilarious. Hats off to you and Eric both for not completely losing it during that bit. PS - Big fan of the show.
For clarification, I am not an aew fan, however i'm going to offer another potential reason for aew live event decline. I haven't seen 2024 average house show numbers for wwe, but I know they went from like 6200 in 2022 to 7900 in 2023. Their numbers are pretty solid. It's not 1999-2001 when they were around 10-12k but still respectable. Anyway, my point is the audience is there for aew because it's there for wwe is wildly flawed. Aew's audience is a very different audience compared to wwe. I don't know the breakdown, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that the average wwe consumer's earnings is higher than the average aew consumer. And with this economy, the aew consumer is less likely to have the extra money. Obviously I don't know for a certainty, but I'd bet on it. So I think that could be a contributing factor in the decline of live event attendance. I know that doesn't explain the viewership decline, but ... Just a thought. Idk

4.4 hours of Eric talking about the end of his era in WCW? I guess ill finish my history paper tomorrow.
I really enjoyed the longer format. It helps work pass right on by. Hope we have more of these in the future
I want to hear Bischoff’s take on WCW after he was told to go home, in a watch along
I grew up loving WCW and hearing Eric Bischoff tell his story is worth every hour spent listening

Spring Stampede 99 was one of better ppv’s in the final years of wcw. Tacoma dome was wild
Love yall! 😊❤
God bless you guys!
WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Dallas Page is something to be proud of.
Conrad asking eZe the tough questions! No holds barred!😮
Lmao
Watching world class championship wrestling. Keen too see what netflix does with all the wwe network stuff
You mean WWE dubbed over actual songs because of licensing?
Eric!!! What’s good 🫡
Modern junk ends at 1:14:42
They need to separate the two. I couldn’t care less about Aew, Cody, or whatever else Conrad likes

If you can watch ecw. Wcw and all difference content from the old network that b cool😊

Aew won't be taking on another show EB. They are replacing rampage with Shockwave. So they are not adding hours
Only Eric thinks he still in the picture of Wrestling.

Is this one a live show

Conrad is hefty and smells sour
1997, a 24 year old me wouldn't have been able to fathom the idea that Bischoff would be on my TV 26 years later talking wrestling and taint odor...
