CarAdvice.com I've got a question, is there a such thing as 'Volvo Excellence' in Australia. When I go into Volvo's website, I don't see any 'Excellence' model in the XC90. Could u please explain to me if I can ACTUALLY BUY IT here?
I purchased my first car (as I had always been a leaser) in March of 2016. I was very excited and proud to put my 3 small boys (1, 3, 4 at the time) in a Volvo XC90. I had done my research and saved in earnest and had no doubt I would love this vehicle. 2 years later, I have been in to the Cranston RI Tasca dealership 7 times as I write this comment. ALL of these visits have been related to recalls and software updates and NONE have been proactive/I have had to call to report and schedule and take 3 car seats out and wait to hear my fate. Mind you I work full time and my youngest is a special needs child with many appointments I need to coordinate my schedule around. Imagine the experience of having NO ONE from the Tasca dealership or from Volvo corporate get back to you when you call to seek advice and assistance? My most recent turn? There was a "known" recall on the vehicle for a sun roof sealing issue and water was pouring into the onstar console. Also, the check engine light went on (and I assumed these might be related). I was told after I dropped the car off on Monday and was given a 4 seater sedan mind you, we expect to have the car back to you within 48 hours. Yesterday they told me more likely a week--there is a transmission line that needs to be replaced. This vehicle has less than 20K miles on it. I am exhausted at the energy I have expended to get it in and out and the experience has just been TERRIBLE. Worst purchase I have ever made and worst customer experience I could ever dreamed of. Yes--Volvo is a popular "luxury" brand and Tasca is an awarded dealership but every customer experience is what maintains your status. No one at Volvo Corporate (after several emails and phone calls) nor at the Tasca dealership seems to care about my inquiries, pleas for advice and guidance on how to stop this ongoing cycle...and I just barely miss lemon law statutes on time off the road this car has spent. That said, I will NEVER stop telling my story or working to ensure other well intentioned buyers are aware of this egregious experience.
I watch a lot of car reviews from sites all over the world. James Ward does the most thorough and down to earth reviews of all. Great work James... much apprciated!
Like anyone that buys a 180,000K car is going to care about fuel economy ...should have just dropped a supercharged V8 donk in it :D. Still an awesome car though.
Model X is not a car to be driven in and it's not discrete(rich people want discrete cars to be driven in daily). Interior is also not that nice of the Tesla and alot more expensive than this(atleast in Belgium). This car is 130-135000 fully loaded and the Model X 180000. And that Tesla's are green cars is another discussion. It all depends on where you live. (or the electricity, transportation is green, the battery production, etc)
Gibbet Hoskins V8 are going to be illegal in cities soon, this is just an investment for the future. If you are looking for a v8 and i assume only because you can, Bentley is the right car for you?
Damn sir...... For the first time in looking car reviews from all over RUclips channels, I have a good feeling and satisfaction. I mean: 1 - Camera colors feel so realistic and the movements smooth 2 - The way you sir talk about the car, being realistic, calm and cautious in what you say. 3 - The information given is just right. I mean, not to Mechanical Engineering-like thing. At least this is what I think... Congratulations and keep up the good work.
There is no delay if you put the car in AWD/POWER mode Then it feels like a 6 cylinder. But in Hybrid it is a bit sluggish but now it's a little bit better after the Polestar tune we got on our T8(it also fixed the shifting in corners it sometimes did before).
Yes this is 60000 euro less expensive in my country and the interior is better in this car. Only a shame you can't get the amber interior with aluminium inserts in the excellence. Backrow space is about the same as in the Range Rover LWB and it's lower and shorter so easier to park.
excellent in depth review , I was wondering why volvo didnt make a diesel version of Excellence ? drove the T6 petrol , despite the petrol engine everything was great particularly the audio as James said , I even liked it more than the B&O on Q7 (Better and cheaper)
Have to agree with you all , great review , came off as honest , meticulous and unbiased . Well done. Question , I'll be in the market around mid 2017 , I've narrowed it down to 4 .... BMW 540 .... Range Rover Sport ..... Landrover Discovery 5 and Volvo XC90 T6 AWD . Which would you recommend ? ( At present I drive the BMW 335 . prior I had the 750i , I have a medium dog now and would like to consider her too )
John jsmit it depend from what you need to do with car. the 540 is a different car from a RR sport or xc90 or discovery. do you prefer sedans or suv? anyway, between the 3 suv's, my favourite is xc90, t6 version is great, i would choose it !!! but if you have the money to buy rr sport SVR, buy it ;) i don't like the discovery. at the end, they are all very great premium cars, for me we remain between volvo xc90 t6 and bmw 540, at this point, you must choose according to your needs about car! but hey these are my opinions, the choise is your, go to see all these cars, touch them, feel them, ask a test drive !!
Ive never owned an SUV , however , since `I have taken up Golf and acquired a new best friend in the form of a Rotty , my needs have changed . Was shown a RangeRover and wow , very impressive , but expensive . the XC90 is close to a Mil but doable , The 540 is around the same price as the XC90 , and the LRDiscovery5 , well thats just come out and I'm very curious . You are right , at the end f the day I need to test drive them , spend some time with all 4 and have one of the best weeks test driving them (",) .
John jsmit yeah, i am sure you will take the best car according to your taste. and maybe, it would be difficult because, i repeat, they are all very great. RR is luxurios, comfortable, very well maid, same for xc90 which is simply wonderful, discovery is a great suv, i don't like it for design, but in quality is good. And the 540 is a fantastic sedan, in this segment i love s90 and ghibli, but the new 5series is very well maid, luxury, a lot of new tecnologies, a mini 7series.
I would recommend you to buy the BMW. Better drivning pleasure and more features. The new 540 is deffinetly big and high enough unless you not gonna drive offroad with IT haha. Its air damping is Smooth and it's very comfertable on rocky roads aswell.
You say there is no manual override on the transmission. I accidentally found one on my T8 by putting it into B and then continuing to shift lower. All of a sudden I think I found low gears. Only did it once, though, so I could have been hallucinating...
CarAdvice.com the R design has paddle shifters, so it can definitely be manually shifted. Nevertheless, I just checked the manual, and you can definitely keep pulling the lever back and move past the B and downshift to lower gears.
You can shift back when you put it on B but it's not really for chargeability it's to use the engine to brake when going down mountains. But you can't shift up without the R-design wheel.
Now imagine if they took the new XC90 Armoured (to VR8 standards), but instead of basing it on the T6, they based it on THIS. Now that's safety and luxury to another level
I really like the rear, it reminds me of the Equus. I'm not sure why their sedans don't have nice rear seat features like that. I am surprised at the lack of room though. I expected tons of leg room and reclining seats like in a proper limo, but it looks cramped. Still, a good step in the right direction, let's hope they update the rear lights next since they look completely outdated.
Fair review. I have some thoughts when I sow the title and I was glad to hear James noticed them all ... but instead V6 a silky smooth V8 will fit a lot better to chauffeur car like that and the silky smooth S-class suspension in that matter. XC90 is just amazing high end family vehicle but that's the best it can be!
This car costs around 100k in the United States, and dealerships are offering them for around 75k. It's a steal at that price, since it's much better than the inscription while costing less!
This variant not available in the UK. The XC90 Twin Motor is on my shortlist to replace my current car in August. After a short test drive (a longer one to be booked), was the petrol engine - a four cylinder in ALL variants. It's not bad, but it certainly is not as refined as the competition in this class.
The car is not $200,000. It's $100,000. So that's inaccurate and very poor journalism. I will say that other than that I really enjoyed the video and review.
I have no interest in this car but this type of review made it so interesting; great work with the camera shots and editing! The black interior colours seem to stand out out a sore thumb.
Been a volvo fan for years, but sadly they keep making the same mistakes regarding engines or details. For example, this specific version which is the most expensive, why didnt it have the walnut/wood steering wheel?(black looked cheap as hell), also noted the white cables coming out of the Ipads(should be integrated, again looks cheap), waay to small engine, for this price it should be a 6 or even the old V8 used in the s80. Where is the foglights? Why only 4 seats?(mercedes S-class had the same fridge but still 5 seats). And ofcourse the full-chrome between the windows, why?(Hey guys lets make the new XC90 look identical to the porsche cayenne) Volvo has some serious work to do at their "Premium headquarters"
We have recently (FEB’19) purchased a new XC90 from Scandia Motorcars based at New delhi. Sorry to mention that I have not been satisfied with its performance at all. The vehicle vibrates when accelerate the car ( between 20 - 40km speed).
Volo really done it with the new design I love it I have a 2006 volvo s60 2.5t AWD people always ask what year it is because it's so clean and new like I'm like this old thing lol I want the new xc90 or even the last modle
Not the new diesels in the E-class it's better than all the petrol cars in tests. Diesel gate is just the beginning next will be all the petrol cars that's why they will need a filter like diesels already have. Electric is also not an option because the production of a battery is bad for the enviroment and goverments don't do the investments to generate 100% green electricity. In alot of countries an electric car is worse than petrol/diesel because the goverments use coal to generate power.
Good review, but don't bang on gas mileage so much. Most of the negative stuff about the car was about the drive and how it's 4 cylinder is overworked and how gas mileage is not as good. But 90% of what you said about the car was praise, so I'll live with it.
It is an interesting car probably targeted for the chinese market. Maybe they won't mind the actual size of the engine. Unfortunately, Maybach sales never took off, this kind of 'chauffeur' car market doesn't seem too developed. By the way, this sells for $100,000 US dollars in North America, which is impressive considering the rear seats have the comfort of a Bentley or even Rolls Royce.
not surprised they finally made something like this. They got bought out by a chinese company so top range suvs and long wheelbase volvos are expected,
+Michel - oh snap! Thanks for letting us know ;) Australia, like Japan, South Africa, the U.K. and others, drive on the left with our wheel on the right. Mind. Blown.
My parents said if we win at least 750,000 dollars or more, I could choose any car we could buy. I choose this obviously. P.S. (Just a Sidenote, Does it have satellite TV, or a jack for video games?
Volvo have moved the game on a long way with this XC90, unbelievable luxury!

Well ahead of the game and its time
still doesnt beat german competitors. Audi q5, BMW, and mercedes
not to mention italian Alpha remoe Stilvio and maserati luvante or japanese Lexus and acura.
I can watch this guy reviewing cars all day..
Cheers! And thanks for watching :)
I like this guy's reviews, great work bud
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
CarAdvice.com Your Australian reviews really have an impact here in South Africa, too many similarities! Very talented!
Right hand drive represent! :)

This is much better looking than Bentagya and much greener than top Range Rover.
Neither is any other luxurt SUV. Are you crazy?
Nic B who cares about the engine?? Is anyone gonna race it? For the price , I would take the Volvo over the Bentley anyway
If I really wanted to race I'd pay a fraction of the price of the Bentayga and just get an RS3.
😎
Nic, you're really showing how stupid you are. The point of a LUXURY SUV is to be luxurious, not to have a good engine.
Looks like I won't need to buy a house.
I purchased my first car (as I had always been a leaser) in March of 2016. I was very excited and proud to put my 3 small boys (1, 3, 4 at the time) in a Volvo XC90. Haha - we love that speed bump. Camera car was driving on the tram lines - but don't tell anyone :)
CarAdvice.com hahahaha, there are no trams in Indonesia so I'm good with that 😃
Indra Narotomo I thought the same thing... I even double tapped my screen a few times to watch it again and again lol
Love a well executed rear seating area!
Like anyone that buys a 180,000K car is going to care about fuel economy ...should have just dropped a supercharged V8 donk in it :D. Still an awesome car though.
Peder Hansen in that case they would buy a Model X, not this. Power and green.

A fantastic review. It's rare you encounter such coherence and eloquence. Mighty impressed..

Seems like great value compared to a Range Rover

This was filmed on beach rd in Melbourne but is this car available in Australia. Not on Volvo web site
Swedish RR ?
Now i am your fan to see all the cars.
excellent in depth review , I was wondering why volvo didnt make a diesel version of Excellence ? drove the T6 petrol , despite the petrol engine everything was great particularly the audio as James said , I even liked it more than the B&O on Q7 (Better and cheaper)
What is the range of the t8 with the engine and battery combined in km?
where was this video shot ?
Great review. Explored every aspect of the car. Fantastic job, keep up the good work champ

You say there is no manual override on the transmission. I accidentally found one on my T8 by putting it into B and then continuing to shift lower. All of a sudden I think I found low gears. Only did it once, though, so I could have been hallucinating...
I have another T8 at the moment (R-Design) will have a play! JW
CarAdvice.com the R design has paddle shifters, so it can definitely be manually shifted. Nevertheless, I just checked the manual, and you can definitely keep pulling the lever back and move past the B and downshift to lower gears.
Yes - I just did. Pulling back from B gives you a range of gears to add friction and increase charge ability.
Anybody know the song in the first few seconds? I'd really like to hear more of it! :)
Just a question. what is the soundtrack you guys used when you started to drive the car?
Very good review, your style is pleasant to watch. Good job hope to see more!
Maintaining cost?
I really like the rear, it reminds me of the Equus. I'm not sure why their sedans don't have nice rear seat features like that. I am surprised at the lack of room though. price od excellence model is?
You giving good information about cars and nice channel good work.
those who think that he is cramped in the back seat the answer is yes but the reason is his height is over 6 feet as he said in one of his videos
Fair review. I have some thoughts when I sow the title and I was glad to hear James noticed them all ... but instead V6 a silky smooth V8 will fit a lot better to chauffeur car like that and the silky smooth S-class suspension in that matter. wow ... engine is really efficient ... performance nd luxury come with efficiency ..I hv a doubt .. can we make use of both engines at same time
not in reality

great review, liked it so much
How much does cost that truck?
Which city was this review made in? That coastal driveway looks superb!
What about the reliability? I've heard it's bad.
Volvo has since updated the software to allow up to 80% recharge. The reason they limit it to 30% is to encourage owners to plug in.
Excellent and honest review.I liked it very much.
orifice crystal? is that what they call it over there? Over here its a pleasure utility.

Loved the review....where was this filmed? Looks beautiful...ofc the Volvo as well :)
The car is not $200,000. It's $100,000. So that's inaccurate and very poor journalism. I will say that other than that I really enjoyed the video and review.

LOL - we hope they aren't breeding!
Does this car come with a free private driver for life?
Where in Australia was this filmed? Thanks. Great review.
Rgds from Spain.
I have a d5 r design, it does 7.7L per 100km. And it is an excellent cad but worry about repair cost.
he looks cramped up in the back seat
thats because he is sitting behind the drivers seat
Fredrik Melin no it's just cramped. You should check range rover long wheel base.
Ahmad Tariq It’s really not.
LEG ROOM FIRST, LEATHER AND CRYSTAL SECOND FOR A LUXURY EXPERIENCE.
You can move back and forward the back seats^^
I have no interest in this car but this type of review made it so interesting; great work with the camera shots and editing! The black interior colours seem to stand out out a sore thumb.
Great work and great car!!!
How many times does he say "HERE"?
Loved the review!!
Great review and great car! Really digging it
This 2017 XC90 Excellence is 100k Canadian (75K US) for new one.. Before any discount or promotion
Thats huge bang for your buck over I would say.
Great review, got me subscribed.

Imagine, you're driving this car and someone touching these buttons at 2:48
Don't understand why they didn't go diesel hybrid system. 2tons and over at that displacement should have been diesel
Med z diesel is soon to be banned in big cities like Paris. Making it diesel they wouldn't be available for Parisians
great review, thank you very much!
which country was that?
Tahir Ahmad I think England or Australia.
Tahir Ahmad Australia.
Love the Australian accent 🇦🇺 I can hear a tiny bit of British accent too.
Hi, Amazing Location, ? , amazing sea facing homes ! please tell me city me city and locality ?

great review.
Good review, but don't bang on gas mileage so much. Most of the negative stuff about the car was about the drive and how it's 4 cylinder is overworked and how gas mileage is not as good. But 90% of what you said about the car was praise, so I'll live with it.
