    Yes on second man drop off the Tail End Charlie is introduced at the start of the ride (pre ride briefing) and remains at the back. On the ride the marking rider either sets off again when TEC comes along and he/she either slows down and lets him go in front or overtakes and then lets him overtake just down the road. Viz vests are usually worn as a recognising feature but if everybody's wearing them it becomes a bit confusing :D

    First time to your channel and enjoyed the relaxed style and the format. I was lucky enough to live in Matlock for 3 years about 20 years ago and would frequently walk down to Matlock Bath to see the bikes. Not been there for a fair few years now but your video has made me realise a ride out there is long overdue.
    Ironically I have done more riding this winter than I have for many many years, and as a rule of thumb I try to avoid narrow country lanes purely to minimise the risk of an incident as they are generally covered in crud.
    As a first timer not sure if you have been there but Poole Quay has a 'bike-night' throughout the summer on a Tuesday evening. IMO it is one of the best, especially as it is set against the yachts in the harbour etc.

    Beyond gutted I didn't see you as I passed through twice that day! Drone shots at the beginning were fab and Via Gelia is best avoided off season as it can be horrendous with the mud/quarry dust!
    Speaking of parking charges at Matlock Bath, they did introduce a short stay rule and often have a warden walking about and timing people when they park up, and the bikes on the curb opposite lovers walk now get fined an all...
    Great video as always guys, can't beat some Derbyshire action, can you 😁

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk  Год назад +1

      Yep Via Gellia was grim with quarry mud & dust, they should get sweepers going up and down.
      It would have been great if I had caught you in one of the passing shots on the street. At least we did actually meet by chance at the bikers breakfast.
      I've never seen a warden take a time on my number plate yet but guess it could happen one day. You would think the council would want to encourage bikers to spend their cash in the town. Not that I'm encouraging law breaking but if you're parked the other side and happen to leave your jacket draped over the rear of your bike.....
      Thanks for the kind words 👍

    • @Pooley650
      @Pooley650 Год назад +1

      @@Banditmanuk sweepers!? We're lucky to get potholes filled round Derbyshire, forget about other road maintainance! 😆
      I tend to go Matlock a few times a week most weeks, depending on the weather, and I've had a few conversations with the wardens, they seem nice enough but are there to do a job at the end of the day... catch people out who either don't know about the silly rules or don't keep track of time. I used to happen to hang my jacket off the rear rack myself come to think of it, but I never take my box off now so I just have to keep checking the time and looking for the parking rozzers instead 👮‍♂️🤣

    What a quaint town Matlock is and still busy considering the time of the year. The Scotsman in me reels at £15 for fish and chips, you'd think with all the completion prices would be more competitive. Cheers for showing us all the bikes, it's always good to see what other people are riding. Carol is warming to the ZZR, no mention of looks other than looking too big. Your a big guy Richard it would fit you like a glove and is the perfect blend of power and touring comfort. Thanks for another entertaining video 👍😀

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk  Год назад +1

      It was £15.00 for both of us, gradually gets more expensive the further south you go. I do love a ZZR, and the green is my favourite. Maybe one day???

    • @greywolf9292
      @greywolf9292 Год назад +1

      @@Banditmanuk I did wonder that but these days nothing is a surprise as far as price is concerned. They say every biker should try the ZZR, if ever there's one in a dealer near you see if you can get a try. Go for the Gen 2 though, the Gen 1 has no traction control, Rythmic Biker is finding out the hard way, I did try to tell him. Some bikers argue your throttle hand should be all the control you need but we're talking about massive amounts of torque.
      The choice of tyres also is hugely important. I'm close to pulling the trigger on the big trumpet, hopefully next week. I went to see and sit on a couple in Glasgow, didn't a fancy test ride in unfamiliar surroundings. However the one I'm after is down south, a limited edition colour scheme 😯😎

      @greywolf9292 Год назад +1

      @@Banditmanuk No RB hasn't crashed it but he's having to learn to use his right hand as traction control, the back end goes out on him occasionally 😯 Imagine the big Trumpet without TC, you'd end up up a tree as it went into full launch mode. I had a look at the chrome Thruxton RS that's a stunning bike but looks a little small for me and all you'd see reflecting in the tank would be my big belly 😟 Another one I fancied and had a look at was the Speed Master, it's much lower and smaller than I imagined and probably not thrilling enough.

  • @cloudmaker
    @cloudmaker Год назад +1

    Brilliant stuff. Right from the opening shot, I guess you were standing in the little rough layby at the top to operate the drone, but those corners were in my closing shots of my last Welsh video. As I was born on the Via Gellia you can call it whatever you like, but just remember this, the locals always called it the Via Jelly. Just think wibbly wobbly stuff at kids parties! That road by the way is always that bad as there is so many quarry wagons on there, until it dries up then it's dusty. We were riding to Matlock Bath most weekends from '79 until mid 80's usually about 5 of us, before life, love and work took over, along with marriage, mortgage, even more working and kids. News update for Via Gellia. 2.2 million being spent on 'improvements' including average speed cameras, traffic lights at the 5056 cross roads motorcycle crash barriers, pavements and road narrowing to slow traffic near Cromford. Enjoyed the video ride safe the pair of you.

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk  Год назад +1

      We were indeed in that lay-by. Got it, Via Jelly 👌
      Yep I know the quarry, left at the top of Via Gellia. Do find it depressing they are spending money on speed cameras when so many of the roads are in need of fixing.
      I was riding from 1980, until the mid 80s, same story for me. Ran a Z250 to work for a few years in the 90s and then picked it all back up again in the 2000's with a couple of Suzuki Bandits. Carol passed her test in 2012 at the same time as our eldest lad. Glad she did as we now have some great times on the bikes.

Haven’t been specifically to Matlock for a few years but have passed through numerous times on route elsewhere. The last time I specifically went there I took the wife on my CB1000 for chips but when we arrived I realised I’d left my wallet at home and we hadn’t got a penny to our name or a credit or debit card between us so no fish and chip! The drop off system works really well, and yes the same person always stays at the very back. One of our lads enjoys marking a junction, then picks us off one at a time to get to the second position again, just so he can go back and do it all again😁
    Those K1300's are great bikes with great engines....until they go wrong! And those Blackbirds are still a really quick bike even these days. One passed me a while ago and made me feel like I was parked up!
    That Yamaha was the Venture, watch it back it says it on the front. ( 1300cc V4 if I remember ) 1980's to 90's so it's getting on a bit now I would say. I'm sure it's engine was used in the V-Max but modified for more grunt.

    2nd man drop off works as the 'last man' is designated at the start and remains the same person for the entirety of the ride. They will hang back and hold the traffic if necessary when the person dropped off has seen them and pulls off. It's a tried and tested method and we have been all over Europe using it without loosing anyone.

      Cheers Mark, shows how much group riding we do. It's either just Carol and I or perhaps another couple with us.

    I like Turquoise as a colour, especially for fountainpen ink! 🙂 Just not as a car colour 🤮 I think in some cultures it is considered Holy, and a bringer of good fortune. True story, many years ago now I parked in Matlock Bath and went for a wander, as you do. When I got back to the bike there were 4 people standing admiring the old girl ('85 Honda 500 XBR in Gloss Black) The 'Old Girl' was surrounded by much more exotic machinery.....the five of us chatted about what we had all owned back in the day...as you do.... interesting to see a lot of the bikes you showed in your video were nearly all 'old classics'? I used to take my bike to a guy in Stourbridge for it's MOT (I worked a stones throw away) He owned the place....he had a Blackbird....he'd had it a long time, and wanted a 'change' 'Trouble is, I can't see anything I'd want to change it for' He still had it as a daily user many years later 🤣

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk  Год назад +1

      Good luck or not that car's colour was grim.
      You're so right about why folks like to just wander around and chat about bikes at Matlock.
      Carol asked me what I enjoyed most about making these daft RUclips vids? I said it was the comments, chatting about bikes with like minded folks. It's true.
      I'm certainly drawn to the older machines, can appreciate the technical brilliance of the new bikes but think some of the fast older stuff required a higher level of skill and restraint to ride and remain in one piece.
      Thanks again for watching

    I have I don't get the peas. Is there a rule that you have to park front first? We almost always park the rear in first so we can pull straight out. That is a busy place, I don't see that many motorcycles in six months.

      Mushy peas, lovely 😃 no rules front or rear first, but if it's busy you just pull into a space and worry about getting out later.

    RE. The Drop Off system, the others have it all wrong, what happens is, the 'lead rider' waves his arms frantically at the rider second in line to mark a junction, the poor guy has absolutely no idea what the 'tail gunner' looks like, so waits there for much longer than he needs to and eventually 'Drops off' the back of the group (as the name would suggest) Eventually, they all 'Drop Off' and you are left with just You and Carol in the group, which is how you intended it to be in the first place anyway.....🤣🤣🤣
